If this forces even a relative handful of businesses to switch to Open Source software then I think this may have a silver lining.
After all, TFA said Microsoft was going to target small businesses which by the very nature of their smallness are a much more flexible entity and able to implement such a change fairly easily.
that game companies would get their heads out of their collective asses and start releasing games for Linux based OS's
I know the only thing holding me hostage to Windows is gaming. I have an Ubuntu box and would gladly switch to it full time if it was not for the games.
The day that happens will begin the death, or at least the crippling, of Microsoft.
And having the homeland security department breathing down my neck, would not it be cheaper in the long run both politically and financially to have used all the money we spent on the war to subsidize the installation of these systems? I don't know what the exact cost of the war is but if you got the price down to about 50k a system (production on this scale would drive down prices even further)and the gov subsidized about 50% of that I bet we could get a major part of our reliance on foreign energy replaced.
But then again Bush's Big Oil cronies would not get even more crazy rich....
If someone feels like figuring out how many homes would be able to receive the 25K subside by dividing it by the cost of the war let me know what it comes out to, cause I am too drunk and lazy right now:)
Unfortunately, if she is found guilty at all her life is ruined regardless of whether or not it is a slap on the wrist.
1. She will be branded a "Sex Offender" for the rest of her life and forced to register as one wherever she moves.
2. Her career is over, period, nobody that is a sex offender will ever get a job teaching again. Nor should they.
However, the way the law (I think it is "Megan's Law") is written this would qualify as a sex offense, And guys, next time you go to take a leak in an alley or in a park or the woods behind some bushes or something make damn sure that nobody is around to see you. I actually saw one inmates file that I felt sorry for, He was urinating in a bush and some kid and his mother saw him. The mother grabbed a cop and pointed the guy out and he was arrested. Ultimately he was charged and convicted of lewdness with a minor for "Exposing" himself, even though it was accidental. Even the "Victims" mother testified that she did not think the man knew they were there. He got something like 60 months and will never to work in his old job (Public Transportation I think) due to being labeled a sex offender.
I think the only fair and just resolution to this would be complete dismissal of the charges. Even if there is circumstantial evidence against her but no direct evidence she should be found innocent as the risk of destroying a most likely innocent persons life and career is too great for such a relatively minor offense.
Actually they do. I work in the prison system and there are two types of sentences inmates get. Concurrent and Consecutive, funny that they both start with "Con" but I digress.
I frequently see their sentence structure on their file and it is not uncommon to see an inmate with a sentence like:
murder-Life with CC
murder-Life with CC
UDW (use of a deadly weapon enhancement) 48-72 months CS
So, what this would work out to be like is this. The inmate would have the 2 life sentences running at the same time, He gets his parole on both. They were running concurrently so they are both complete. NOW he starts serving the 48-72 month sentence that was consecutive to the initial sentence.
It does not happen this way all the time, but it is quite common.
So, She could conceivably wack the kids and the idiot judge that actually let this go to trial in the first place and serve less than 40 years.
This scenario is extremely unlikely but within the realm of possibility.
Why could they not just send their own servers into orbit in international space on a satellite
and just access it by remote for about the same price? Would the servers technically not be in any nations jurisdiction? Am I borderline retarded?;)
Wow, What a great plan. That only leaves one question... Do you work for the government or the Mafia? Either way I think you have the right mindset..... And I like the way you think:)
Now they are going to have to outsource all of our Porn to India.......
Seriously, when are these Techno-idiots gonna learn that they can't squash a multi-national structure like the internet and cram their morales down the worlds throat?
I scanned through the first page of the many comments and did not notice if this had been brought up so if it's redundant I apologize..... But what about taking them to small claims court? Surely a judge could do the math?
One way around the storage problem is the new high capacity capacitors that are being perfected. I think the most important thing about this issue is that it shows that at least some progress is being made to get us off of fossil fuels. States like California have very stringint building codes in many areas due to earthquake potential so why not add building codes that say if you build a house above a certain size/value and it will be in an area where solar is feasible for even 15% of the homes usage then it should be mandatory.
Lets face it, most people are not going to adopt alternative energy on their own without either incentives or regulations. Rather than support big oil with the massive subsidies they are receiving how bout providing tax incentives and subsidies to contractors and private builders that incorporate solar cells in their projects?
For example, if you know somethings coming, even if it is only with a few seconds notice it would help alleviate the fear of the unknown that is so prevalent in humans. Plus, 20 seconds notice would be time enough for bridge operators to turn on warning lights and stop the traffic over bridges and under overpasses. That alone could save many lives in the event of a particularly nasty earthquake.
One thing I might be worried about is the bad guys may be hackers... This could actually cause people to be less attentive due to relying on the technology which happens quite a bit. What if a Terrorist manages to snag or clone an RFID tag and throws it into the system? Am I being to paranoid in wondering this?
about this article is that it is almost believable.... The fact that many people upon first reading the article would actually find it even quasi believable illustrates exactly how out of control the MPAA and RIAA have become in our society.
The thing is, with the unlocked phone, you can install your own ring tones and wallpapers etc. With the Verizon V3M you cannot. It is basically the same phone otherwise with the exception of the MicroSD card slot on the verizon model. If I bought the phone from a third party, it would work on verizon's system and allow me to install my own papers and tones, whereas the verizon phones have software locks that prevent you from doing this unless you use their Vcast service. There are many forums about this issue. It is basically like ford selling you a car and then installing an adapter that only allows you to fill up at a particular service station that they have a partnership with.
Yes, she could of gotten it at the book store, for about 40% more. Some of us are not very wealthy and if we can find it cheaper we will. I found it on amazon, it was cheaper, and they did not ship it in an accurate and timely manner, which is what I paid for. By the time we actually got credited back the money from Amazon she was too far behind to pass... Sound a little less odd now? Then again, if you went to college you know how expensive textbooks are or your daddy paid for them for you and it did not matter what they cost.....
I think this was enacted for a few reasons, the one that most specifically has to do with me is the cell phone section. I recently subscribed to Verizon for my cell phone service. I bought a Motorola V3M as a friend of mine (with another carrier) had one. Well, much to my chagrin many of the things he could do with his I could not (such as take a snippet of music I own and use it for a ring tone) due to the cripple ware they installed with there phones. They actually removed functionality in an effort to make me have to purchase ring tones and wallpapers from them. I personally am getting sick and tired of having to pay over and over again for the same song/video/etc, and hopefully this will go a long way towards fixing the problem.
While I don't agree with our current copyright system I despise Amazon. They screwed up so many orders of ours, including one for a textbook for my wife's college class (which never showed up because they don't let you select shipping methods and they shipped it to the wrong address which caused her to have to cancel the class delaying her degree by one semester) that I am happy to see them having problems. That, coupled with their attempts to to copyright ridiculous things such as one click ordering (Like that was so innovative) makes me hope they get their collective asses kicked.... Die Amazon...
There is that. I always did like the Beta better. Smaller tapes and way better sound and picture quality. Although my point that Sony stepped on their wangs with golf shoes by refusing to license out there format to other manufacturers still remains:)
Just think long term. Windows prices itself out of the market, PC vendors start selling the general public on the idea of open source operating systems like ubuntu. The public starts buying a larger portion of machines with open source operating systems, Software and game makers start making more games compatible with those systems and Microsoft gets their collective asses kicked for their greed. Kinda like what happened to Sony with the Betamax, well not really but sorta:)
I think it would be a pretty easy sell for all the big computer companies. I can see the ads now.
"For 1899.00 you can get this great computer with Windows Vista on it and no other applications!!!! Or, you can get the same computer, fully load with open source applications that do all them same things for only $1300.00!!! I think a lot of regular users (I.E. non gamers) will be sorely tempted to save that $600.00 and get all that "Free" software to boot.
Computer buyers are becoming more savvy overall and I think that coupled with Microsofts greed will eventually catch up to them.
I am so glad I switched to open office. Now whenever one of these things happens I send the article to my friends along with a link for OpenOffice
but I wonder if this tech could be used to make a much more efficient solar cell?
After all, TFA said Microsoft was going to target small businesses which by the very nature of their smallness are a much more flexible entity and able to implement such a change fairly easily.
Then again, I could be wrong....

You should call it "Light Challenged" matter in this age of political correctness. Be more sensitive to other matter people!
her upcoming alliance with the RIAA and the MPAA all you flying penises will pay!!!! (about $4534.79)
