  1. Idiots. on Arrest Under New NY Anti-Piracy Law · · Score: 1
Well, I am sure this will help ease overcrowding in their already massive prison population, not to mention the cost to tax payers for housing him for 6 months. Shit like this needs to be tried in civil court, not criminal. If they are truly loosing money over this, then the MPAA will sue them, and if they are not loosing enough money to make it worthwhile to sue them then obviously it is not a big enough deal to lock someone up for.

Oh well, I guess they can early release another child molester or other criminal to make space for these dangerous individuals.

The point of writing hundreds of comments is that it is representational. If there are hundreds of people taking the time to write about the problems, then they must be pretty severe because I imagine only a small portion of people experiencing the problem would take the time out of their day to write about the issue, and an even smaller portion of them are reading and posting on /. so it must be a pretty common opinion that Vista is less then satisfactory....

This really helps the consumer because in all honesty, I really wanted vista to kick butt. I wanted to upgrade my gaming machine and buying vista was going to be my motivator to do it with my upcoming tax return. However after reading all the negative comments, both here and at other sites I have decided to put off both building a new machine and buying a copy of vista.

If there would of been only a couple of comments to this effect I would of probably already bought my copy...

A 4th option, and one that is frequently taken in lose/lose situation's like this when the employee is not a pariah (i.e. has a supervisor out to screw him over)is to place the employee on some form of "Administrative Leave" from his position until he reaches the date of his retirement when it is that close. I have seen it happen before in several public and private agencies as well as with public officials (as was recently seen when the Nevada Dept of corrections director was placed on sick leave then encouraged to medically retire due to a scandal involving the early release of inmates rather then being terminated) .

Is it the best way to handle things? Not always, but in a situation like this where the negative publicity and legal fees would far outstrip the cost of paying the guy to stay home for 6 months sometimes it is the best way for a corporation/agency to respond.
