I wonder if these people ever read any of the stuff at the XTraceroute page http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~d3august/xt/ or whether they read the RFCs mentioned http://rfc.net/rfc1712.html and http://rfc.net/rfc1876.html Seems like they are just reinventing the wheel but calling it seomthing new and marketable. Typical.
I put one into the Telecom New Zealand Tolls Calculator on their site. if you appended "&dairymilk=1" then you got a tolls calculator that looked like a Cadbury's Daily Milk Chocolate bar. Unfortunately the site has done several iterations of coding since and I don't even have a clue if it's still in there. I still have the design somewhere on my FAT32 partition. I figured that they could setup a competition to hunt down the easter eggs and give away prizes, but the management at the time didn't like the idea. I put it in anyway because it didn't do anything except change the layout a bit;-)

I personally can't stand the people who frame other peoples sites.
Have a look at this site http://www.domainbuyersguide.com/ and follow the "Website 4 Sale" link. You'll see that all this person has done is buy (or maybe not) some domains and then either stick some dumb ass header of theirs in the top frame or a 0 pixel frame and then someone elses site is in the bottom frame. If you look closely at the actual source you'll also notice that they are also using Commission Junctions "qksrv.net" click through linking to get themselves a little extra moola on the side.
To then also try and sell these as their own hard (NOT!) work. I can't imagine what people buying these sites would do once they found out that the had only bought a domain name and didn't own the content.
These guys make a mockery of the whole web design/development industry and make it really had to charge a reasonable rate, until you show your clients what the site really is.
Hey I just went to that stream and it asked me if I wanted to save the stream pointer file. So I told it too open it using/usr/bin/xmms (that's where XMMS is on my system) and hey presto streaming talkback from the BBC.
XMMS had this support from install of Mandrake 8.1.
I still can't understand why companies that own patents can select who they want to sue. They should have to take either everyone to the cleaners at once or not at all and lose the right to licensing and just get the satisfaction that they have their name on something important.
BT should have to sue everyone infringing on their patent all at the same time. The way it is at the moment they can choose some company that will probably bend to their will or be happy to come to an agreement and then use that as a proof of case to claim from all others without court. Bummer if you ask me.
I use Gandi in France for all my US domain registrations because of their registration agreements first point "Client owns domain" and their price 12Euro is pretty damn reasonable for me here in NZ.
Also they have a really easy "Transfer Domain" option which forces NSI to relinquish the domain if you accept the emails.
NSI often doesn't even bother to reply to the requests from Gandi or the domain owner and so according to the ICANN registrar agreements if two out of the three contacts reply confirming the transfer then it happens.
I transferred ages ago with no problems and they even credited me for the time remaining on the domains.
The only possible spanner in the works could be if you can't pay be credit card as they only accept that or a bank cheque in Euros sent to them.
Oh by the way, Gandi says that it takes up to a week to process domains, but in reality it's never taken more than 1-2 days and as soon as your payment is confirmed the domain becomes unavailable to others.
Of course Bill's forgetting that Open Source has no direct relation to the PC.
Open Source as we all know is about choice and freedom, which as we know is not what Bill and the PC are about. They both have a future that depends on one platform and no other, for simplicity but mostly market share.
Open Source has nothing to do with what the hardware is, what the OS is or what anything is (vague bit there;-) ). It allows for people to port to other platforms easily and to innovate without barriers, most of the time, which then clears the way for people to choose their path, to use that platform instead of one paved with hotplates.
Don't get me wrong. Bill has done some good:-(. If it weren't for him and of course others, then the Open Source initiative would quite likely be a few steps back still. Competition and rivalry are both very useful and productive ways to encourage alternatives and choice.
It never changes, does it. Someone lifts a stick and hits a tree to make some noise. Someone else lifts that same stick and hits his friend on the head killing him. Another could just as well as use that same stick for killing a pig for food or digging in the ground for roots.
No matter what the original intended use is for something, people will always find another use for it.
And so it is for browser identification. Intended to allow for the recognition of the browser and it's capabilities and then used for targetting individuals for access, identifying possible chances for promoting a better, in some eyes, browser product or selling a new OS.
When will it end?
Never! If it did, then so would our uniqueness, the ability to create and see things differently, make friends/enemies, form alliances and above all innovate!
Remember that this is why/. exists too!

How about interleaving the images from all the cameras. Is it possible to put these into a multidimensional space and then compress it using dimensional compression formulas. Also the more images the more possible blocks of similarity and possibly better compression.
Removal of this wort of stuff would remove the ability of a purchaser to make an informed decision and protect themselves. We've already seen what happens when the consumer/inhabitant doesn't know what really going on around them security wise.
I thought eBay used the Escrow principle for payment and goods. Buyer registers money with eBay. Seller sends goods after getting confirmation from eBay of deposit. Buyer receives goods and cofirm receipt. Seller gets paid by eBay.
Don't forget that "Chapter 11" just allows a company to separate their current debts up to the "Chapter 11" from their future earnings/debts. This is to allow them to say to their creditors that they will be paying the debts but that they require time to do it. Another way of saying we haven't forgotten that we owe you.
It doesn't indicate that Loki is going under or anything of the such.
I can't believe that these people are allowed to patent this without having a working prototype. And what's with the patent reissue thing. Did they get it wrong and then steal some other ideas and word them into the old patent and get it reissued?
Geez. This sort of thing really inspires people to make they're ideas public doesn't it.
DUH!
I can't see that the US putting backdoors into security products is going to make any difference at all to the security products that the criminals use. Already they don't bow to the law so what makes the law think that the criminals will say "Sure I'll use your security products with those backdoors in them!" DUH! I don't think so. The fact is that no matter what the US does to implement backdoors into security products there will always be a product outside of their scope that won't have any backdoors and this is what they'll use. Hell they could even write something themselves or pay someone to do it.
What really needs to be done is to work out what's causing all this crime and then solve that cause and not just fix the visual problem. Look at Windows for an example of fixing the visuals and not the actual problems/causes.
I can see too much money being dumped into this and too many companies rubbing their sweaty little palms as they seize the opportunity to profit from this and other disasters.
Fix the cause not the problem!!!

On another note, maybe it's time for those patents on cheap free energy from water to be released into the public domain and for this technology to be used for planes, trains and automobiles, etc.
Also time for more trade throttling on the middle east till they hand over the goods. Eye for an eye doesn't work with these sort of people because they are willing to put their who following and their supposed religion on the line.
I know this is a bit too late, but could the autopilot be setup to accept a code and then lock all controls and set a standard avoidance course out of main areas and notify the ground of a possible problem onboard the aircraft. This could then be used to alert the ground and authorities as well as stop hyjackers taking over a plane by immobilising the pilot/copilot. This code could be changed for every flight or whatever.
