16-bit sampling is not the be-all, end-all of audio resolution. Hopefully whatever format they use for archiving is, at a minimum, 96k/24 bit, just like the movie digitizers are scanning for 4000 line resolution even though they make DVDs with 1/8 that resolution.

Very well. I do not view pornography, so I have cast the beam from my own eye first.

Boy, have you missed the point. (For which you join millions of Christians.) When asked "How shall I enter the kingdom of Heaven," Jesus did not say, "Just don't look at pictures of naked people, and try to stop other people from doing it." Are you claiming you are without sin?

    Matthew 19:16-22:
16 Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"
17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."
18 "Which ones?" the man inquired.
19 Jesus replied, " 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,'[1] and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'[2] "
20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"
21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Note: not a thing about forcing your beliefs on other people. Do you think anything Ashcroft et al are doing will bring more people closer to God?

P.S. Although it has fairly few applications that call for it, the tilt-wheel on new Microsoft mice is a pretty decent controller for side-scrolling. The only weakness in the wireless MS mouse I got is that there are no detentes in the normal scrolling, so occasionally you'll try to side scroll and get a line of vertical scrolling at the same time.

Aside from the humor value of convincing your kids you can change the stereo by waving your hand (while discreetly manipulating the steering wheel remote with the other), it really does minimize the driver distraction of adjusting the stereo. Are there reasonable installations for this, or indeed in general for other MP3 players (including any CD/MP3 players)?

When lights are green one way, they are red the other.

You seem to be completely missing the issue here.

What is assumed here is that the system has detected that someone is about to run a red light. Now, red lights can't physically stop anyone, they're just obeyed most of the time. But in this case, someone is choosing to ignore it.

In that case, the system would delay the cross traffic light to green, so the red light runner won't crash into them. *That's* the idea here.

Now, there is a concern that the lawless might decide to take "advantage" of this, and run red lights more often because they know the cross-traffic won't start.

Isn't the rightness or wrongness of that up to God to decide? You must admit that if God hasn't made this pretty important issue clear, it's quite a problem for his believers.

Fundamentally (no pun intended), though, there's still a very real issue of whether the law should reflect religious beliefs. I for one believe the law should allow all of us to seek and determine our own path to God, and thus just serve to prevent us from hindering each other on that path. If I create pornography (how do you feel about cartoon porn and written porn, BTW?), that does not affect you seeking your own path to God, and thus you should not be entitled to prevent me from creating it.
