    The data from wiki answers is irrelevant. Semiconductor circuits do not use pure silicon. They use silicon with specific impurities to make it either electron rich or electron poor. It is the interaction of layers and channels of these different types of silicon that give silicon semiconductors their electrical properties.

    Voice of America Bethany Station operated in Mason, OH for 50 years, right among a pretty large population (Mason is a suburb of Cincinnati). At it's peak the facility had three transmitters broadcasting with 250 kW, three broadcasting with 175 kW, and two transmitting with 50 kW. Plus it's right next to a 50 kW commercial antenna that's operated over 50 years. Any links to cancer should be readily evident among the surrounding population. (I did a quick web search, but could find nothing about cancer stats for the area)

    Don't worry about that.
    Disney also owns Touchstone, Miramax, Hollywood Pictures, ABC and ESPN. The original reason Disney bought Touchstone was to release non-G rated movies separate from the Disney label.
    Touchstone, Hollywood and Miramax all release R-rated movies including the likes of Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, No Country for Old Men, Reservoir Dogs, The Crow and Con-Air.

    Why do you think Budweiser is the number one selling beer in the world? Is it because it's actually the best beer in the world or is it that they spend the most for marketing?

    A 15 year maximum may be appropriate for negligent manslaughter. The legislation deals with FATAL accidents.
    But I don't see why this circumstance wouldn't be covered by current manslaughter laws.

    Sigs are like bumperstickers. Once in a while they are amusing, but usually they are irrelevant and irritating.

    Adblock will eventually be worked around on the server side when it becomes profitable to do so. Instead of serving the javascript and linked ad content, servers will just begin to resolve the advertising on the server side and merge it directly into the served content. YouTube and similar sites have already started doing this with ads that pop up directly in their content player.

    Shane ONeill jumps to the conclusion that Bing's results are tainted based on 1 search. That's not a very good test strategy. Based on my results, the same assertion could be made against Google.

    Libertarians tend to want the government not making decisions for them, so on issues like drugs they appear to be left and issues affecting business they appear to be right. That's because the labels of "left" and "right" have been muddled up. They are conservative as in little government intervention in the lives of citizens.

"You can remove the hard drive, trash it, and even reinstall the operating system," Sacco said. "This will still reinstall the rootkit."
    ...
    BIOS attacks can be prevented by using the jumpers on many motherboards to block writing to the chips that store the system's instructions. In addition, some hardware security technologies, such as the Trusted Computing platform, could be used to check the integrity of the BIOS, preventing changes.

    The article isn't really clear how the malicious code would be initially installed.
    Does the user have to run an executable that flashes the BIOS? Do you need root access?

    Mutual funds.
    Most of the big mutual funds are designed for 10 - 30 year investments. Mutual fund managers will definitely consider long term plans and returns when they invest, and they have invested heavily in energy companies like Exxon Mobile.

    also from Adrian Wong's TechARP article: "Even though branded CD-Rs from the likes of Kodak were expected to last longer, they appeared equally susceptible to failure as the cheap, no-brand CD-Rs."
    But as stated above, this is just one person's experience, not any kind of comprehensive study. So I guess the bottom line is "your mileage may vary".

    From the TechARP article, "Also, this isn't a properly "calibrated" test in that the samples are based on a mixed bunch of CD-Rs - from cheap no-brand CD-Rs all the way to premium Kodak and Mitsubishi CD-R media."

    The 10% failure rate reported was from 1 person's experience copying old discs back to a hard drive. No mention was made of the CD hardware used or at what speed they were recorded at.
