I live just below you and I have the same problem. There's no way to get some MLPFiM DVD set that I can purchase in my area. And even so, I'd like the original voices instead of the HORRIBLE local dubs, our local translation is shamefully amateur and the voices make my ears bleed. I resort to piracy which is also the only way to hear the original voices, which are great. (Srsly they made Pinkie sound like a 50-60yo lady here, it's sooo wrong)
From experience, I agree with this. I've used those "auto-shielding" "solar" masks, and they are quite an improvement since you can "aim" safely, but being able to see precisely what you are doing as you do the actual welding makes me fantasize working with this new hardware.
As long as it has a taskbar, maybe, otherwise it's useless for desktop usage. Heck, it's already cumbersome in tablet usage, imagine in a desktop. Only-one-app-at-a-time is a nightmare.
Kwin is a really solid window manager, can be given a ton of automation options (such as "make this window appear with this geometry and in desktop 2", or "automatically disable compositing", or even force other attributes, like giving a close button to apps that somehow don't provide one, like peazip). And yeah, it's quite fast by default. And even when compositing, too.
They will have to scavenge for porn in some way, as it's customary with repair guys. iPads have internal disks of some form too, so I think a "cannot turn on" device is untouchable.
So if I jailbreak my only options are nuking all my settings and installed tools and hoping they can't turn the device on?
My experience is the same. Without strigi or nepomuk or akonadi it's pretty lightweight. I also remove krunner since I use another launcher, and the RAM and CPU use are very stable (low-stable).
Why should I go out of my way to try it? I use another DE. I saw Gnome3 and I don't like how it manages windows or workspaces, so I won't bother. It's as simple as that. If they want people to bother, they should make it more attractive and not some weird experimental experience hated by a lot of people. I have nothing to gain by using G3.
While I find Unity to be meh. I think you are being unreasonable. Power users and professionals that use linux, surely can't be your average grandma who doesn't know how to install another DE or window manager. I install KDE the first thing after I install. Nothing, absolutely nothing, will try to stop you on that task, be it KDE or Gnome3(or forks of Gnome2/etc), XFCE, LXDE, XFCE, IceWM, whatever floats your boat, and there are tutorials and step-by-step guides for everyone else!. Your problem will only be a problem when there is no alternative... As in Windows 8.
That's the only thing keeping me from even thinking of purchasing anything from them. I don't have a credit card, nor I want one, and I am not willing to give Google all my real identity data by binding a bank account to them. Google being as it is, I can't trust them to not display my real name in my account or invalidate my account because my real name and given google name do not match.
Not to mention, there are many things I can't purchase even if I paid money for them. Because the point of digital distribution is clearly useless when arbitrary country barriers are in place. I'd rather walk into a shop and buy my games, no strings attached.
Then again, most apps charge too much for things FOSS has been giving us for free (and without tons of ads and other undesired extras), they are too limited in scope, and the games do nothing for hardcore players (there's only so much you can do without usable physical controls, and most of them are copies of flash games from sites like newgrounds or such).
So...no wonder they get pirated, honestly. Note that I don't don't pirate Android software, I use either the few true FOSS apps in there, or just use my debian chroot with ACTUAL software, instead of those...toys.
(And yeah FOSS matters. Connectbot and other variants have a bug that disconnects you from localhost terminals when the 3G/Wifi networks change states. I was able to just open the source and hack myself a workaround. I bet those paid apps won't let me do that.)
That's correct. What the guy you are replying to calls DRM, is nothing but an online login. Not the same thing. Felt like I should reply so your post can be seen by others who filter ACs.
Because a simple game like Minecraft has several, millions of paying customers. And most of them came in when the game was at full price, as opposed to the cheaper prereleases. So... how come people are willing to pay for Minecraft and not for Ubisoft's games?
I think not, and I am certain it shouldn't be. For some reason, every single community I dwell into is always haunted by this topic, and considering it's a behavior I don't respect, I consider those guys should get their man cards removed, because they fail at it.
Are you aware that you can disable everything in a few seconds and use Geany entirely with keyboard shortcuts? Just requires toggling two options, perhaps a few minutes to set keyboard shortcuts the way you like them, and that's only if you don't like the defaults.
So, how about you check it out before criticizing for something that is left to you to decide when you run geany? Despite being "G"eany, it's not a gnome app, and has real options for you to set.
I agree. I have been using Geany as my development editor and Kate (embedded in the Krusader file manager, pretty much like midnight commander's built-in editor), and I don't think any paid alternative can top those two. Gedit is kinda nice, too, and there are the console editors like vim, emacs, nano and joe, even mcedit, that are very handy to have. Not to mention I make a point of creating software with zero costs other than my power bills. I make FOSS with FOSS. Even if it can be 20% more painful than paid software. I have enough patience. Also I like doing small modifications to my editors for convenience, and closed-source won't cut.
Although the design kinda reminds me of VOTOMS. Oh well, I am sure some Super Robot Wars game has something comparable. Kinda reminds me of a quad Angriff. (sans Raven parts). Or something from Armored Core.
Anyway this being Japan I am sure it has plenty of upgrades and final attacks. I'll wait for the Shin Kuratakaiser that will surely come eventually.
My cheap, randomly selected (for cheapest price) hardware begs to differ. I've run custom computers since 1995 and Linux since 2003, only had to recompile kernels when I was in my Gentoo phase, and never again since Ubuntu. My hardware is ANYTHING but specifically designed for Linux, and it changes regularly. My friends have a similar experience, but they spend more time dual-booting windows for games.
Are you saying we are REALLY lucky?
On the other hand, if the person is a pure consumer and doesn't produce anything, a tablet is definitely the way to go. If there's work to be done, Linux and/or Windows and a real PC.
Gave it a try....but it's totally not satisfactory. Absolutely nothing like that, and having to do actual code to draw a line (and without interactive anything, unlike CAD) is not convenient. Oh well, one can dream.
Hah, I learned CAD a few months ago and I found the command line to be the most useful thing ever. While I am well-used to the command line, I am mostly a GUI guy, but wow, I was amazed at how useful and precise it turned things to be. I wish GIMP allowed such a thing, it'd be a blast for sprite art.

Actually, KDE is my desktop of choice because not only it can run fast without compositor, you can also disable it on-the-fly without any noticeable change. So you can have composition for the "exposé"-like features, taskmanager thumbnails and other things (that can come in handy when doing coding or sprite editing) and disable it when you need speed for a game or something.

I meant to say "[...]I don't think a 'cannot turn on' device[...]"

Doesn't jailbreaking void the warranty? I don't see Apple taking care of a jailbroken phone if it needs physical repairs.

That's all I really care about, to be honest. As long as I can keep coding in C, they can do whatever.

Wow. Just no. $60 is 1/8 of the standard salary in my country. Too bad... for them.

I thought sublime text was shareware, is it not the case?

KDE, or Kwin to be more accurate, would allow you to do that and more. It's their killer feature for me.
>Well then you can't blame the software for a hardware failure.
I think that was the point of his post.
