I'm speaking for myself here, but I'd say there are no major IT unions because most people in IT just want to get their shit done without having to worry about if their action will stray from union regulations. It's bad enough dealing with the PHBs to replace a 10 year old server. Why would I want to add more red tape? Unions had their purpose, but many unions are now just PACs in disguise.

  3. You sure would have a problem driving to a new spot you haven't been to then... Your taxes go to roads. Roads you don't use right now. So in your view, all roads should be toll roads, and you should pay for each road you drive on. That would sure be a fun thing to manage.

Atheism says there is no god. Religions say there is. Simply not believing in a god figure is not atheism. That's just not being religious. Atheism is a belief structure just like religions. You believe there is no god. It's as equally unprovable as the religious stance that there is. I don't give a shit either way, and I'd say even that could qualify as a religious belief. Maybe there is a god, maybe there's not. I don't care.

Small point... You are not required to have a certain number of certified developers on your staff. At least not in all cases. In the old "points" system for partnership, it would get you more points and help you get closer to gold certification, but certified developers were not required. There are multiple types of partner I suppose, but for at least the ISV path it is not required.

  20. Re:Use a different router on Verizon Changing Users Router Passwords · · Score: 1

They will change it. I've done it for 3 people at my office. Unless this guy has some really weird equipment, you call up support, give them your information, and tell them you want to switch your internet from coax to ethernet. Open up your ONT, plug in, and off you go. You will need to keep the router in there in some form if you have television because the set top boxes get guide information from the router, so you need the ethernet->coax handoff. I just turned off pretty much everything on the verizon router, and connected the verizon router to the router we use for a WAN VPN. The verizon routers have an ethernet lan port too, so you could keep it in the mix if you really wanted, but then if you're bitching about verizon accessing their router that seems like it'd be useless. I'm not sure if the router merely being connected to the internet in any way is enough to give them access to their router. I don't know if it'll connect back to them instead of just allowing them to connect.

http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/08/24/2031258 would indicate that cameras are a waste of money. They also remove the human element. A cop could be around to see that you do something "illegal" such as making a turn on red because if you didn't you'd be rear-ended by a drunk driver, or it was actually the safest way to get out of the way for an emergency vehicle. The camera may not see this, and you get a ticket. Your image is captured, and you get the ticket some time later, and you've forgotten why. It's a good deal for the cops, makes it harder for you to fight it.

I get the feeling too that you think speed limits are always based on safety as well.
