God, must someone really break it down for you? Opening a jar of vegemite displays intelligence because they're smart enough to know they have to unscrew the lid to gain access to the edible contents. Because you have to understand how it works to open it. If you gave a jar of food to a chimp he'd probably try to break it with a stone or even throw it down to break it, and even that would display some intelligence, rather than trying to bite really hard in it.
I think the point is that their reactions were random, i.e. they didn't act the same but there was no consistent difference between each other in their reactions. If you take people, no matter the situation, they'll have consistent reactions depending on their personality whether they're John Rambo or your grandmother.
OMG, Obama won't let us colonize other planets during his term? That's not change I can believe in, what a rip-off! Vote for Palin in 2012 and we'll be colonizing Titan before we pull out of Pakistan!
Wow, stereoscopy is news!? Can't wait until I read some news about the printed press. It's about time this thing comes about, my scribes who translated my HTTP packets into hand-written letters are pretty expensive and slow. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some daguerreotypes to post on flickr.
Note that my enunciation of moral choices regarding this topic was non-exhaustive, and while I characterised the problem as bi-dimensional it was a simplification.
Like I said, "with also varying degrees of importance in the role it plays in decision making". What you say doesn't apply to anyone, so people are more attached to their moral values than that, depending on what their moral values even say about the problem in question (i.e. you can be very attached to your morals but think it's fine to pirate, or you can think it's bad to pirate but do it anyways because you don't care that much for your principles on the topic).
Posts about GATTACA are silly. That's neo-eugenics FUD. Embryo discrimination will never be about making people visibly better, unless we go for a Fourth Reich. It'll only ever be about getting rid of diseases. People need to stop seeing dystopian sci-fi futures everywhere.
OMG and you put a 200 lb 10,000 W speaker in my telephone so I can make anyone temporarily deaf in a radius of 30 feet when I receive a text message!! Thank you Xzibit!!!
Piracy is the result of human nature: when faced with the option of getting something for free or paying for it, and in the absence of any significant risks, you don't need complex economic studies to show you that most people will opt for the free route.
Right, there's also moral values in the balance. To some people piracy is all bad, to some people everything should be free, to some other people it's fine to pirate from big studios but not from small developers who try to make a living out of it. It's called moral values. It varies from people to people, with also varying degrees of importance in the role it plays in decision making.
It's bloody SCREENING. They're not putting together genes for fuck's sake! And as for "no proof" thing, it's all about odds, i.e. going from "very likely to get cancer" to "about as likely as the general population".
God, bored people can be so full of shit, can't take a piece of good news without having to wave the Impending Doom stick.
No there's really no tough choice there, dichotomies are not necessary in those situations you know. It's just screening, rejecting embryos that are much much more likely than others to end up being people with breast cancer. It's about as much playing God as picking lemons at the grocery store is.
Yeah, it's interesting enough to be fully read, but I still really don't get the point of it. Unless it's as you said a parody of similar-sounding religious stories, in which case it would be amusing if a disambiguating context was provided.
Welcome to the English language, where any noun can be verbed. (I was trying to be funny but turns out "any noun can be verbed" is all over the web already)
If it's not going to play some early and archaic version of an old video game we all cherish there's no point. They should have added two more knobs on that machine so we could control two space rockets around Earth and make them shoot at each other.
2,100 year old Spacewar! device recreated, now THAT would be newsworthy!
That would be interesting indeed, but I can tell you it's not the best way to get stuff done. In France during the last couple of decades we've had a healthy dose of prime ministers who were from the other party as the president. Things still work, but not as efficiently. Mind you a constant tug o' war in power isn't the best way to get things done. See filibustering.
What your saying is that McCain has an outside shot?
Nope, but Sarah Palin does, from her helicopter. She can see the Congress from up there. And shoot any wolves that come near. And by wolves I mean electors.

Yes. I can't find my car in a parking lot without looking at its license plate, because I systematically forget where it's parked.
Yeah, great idea if you want the operation to be immediately reported by the victim.

Quit trying to read between the lines, twit. All I said was that moral values also played a part.
Ah, teenagers! The eternal root of all evil.

Wow, is it me or does it feel profoundly counter-intuitive that you'd lose more power over the wire than over radio waves?
Which would merely marginally reduce the costs... For some reason I have a feeling that these guys can afford their current plan as it is.

I know you're trolling and all but anyways I really don't get the point this story is trying to make.

And even Sarah Palin can't be in 51 places at once...
No need to be there, she sees it all from up there. You can run from her but you can't hide.

For Canadian prices, add $40-140 (wtf, man)
Eh?
By the way, did you hear that some of the presidents weren't even born in the USA?! That's scandalous! I hope Lou Dobbs is on the case.
