It's good at doing anything where there's a streaming data
When we discussed the Cell processor in my super computing class, the verdict was it required streaming data to be fully utilized since each of the SPUs each had too little cache.
Perhaps it would have been wiser to instead only have 3 SPUs (+1 PPU) with a little more power and caching each instead of the 7 SPUs. As it stands, it is a problem that is stumping many PhDs.
Kind of related to this is decision making. Don't put a decision off to make sure we know 100% the best possible solution. Usually a good-enough solution will work until more is known about the problem (especially if it contributes to the later solutions).
I've seen near a year lost on a project because management couldn't make the decision everyone knew they would.
As interesting as this is, I only saw a count of how many people died sky diving (and how). I didn't see a percentage or something that allows me to compare it to the thousands driving cars.
Developing a language and compiler that takes advantage of multiple CPUs (especially if it's scaling the number of CPUs) is something that a lot of research (or money). MS does have this. Whether they use it effectively is another matter.
Also, remember that they are not unfamiliar with HPC abstraction. Direct3D abstracts the architecture of the GPU, and GPUs have been parallel processors for a decade or so.

I've heard the argument of taxing vices to eliminate taxes for the rest of us. The reality is that if you attempt to tax them enough to lift the tax burden from everyone else, a combination of 1) people won't do it as much and the revenue won't be there or 2) people will do it illegally or seek loopholes to avoid the steep taxes.
It would be a valid form of revenue, but not capable of supporting the country.
Comcast does it secretly, Pacific did it publicly (or at least, obviously). Comcast targets a lot of individuals, Pacific cut off a provider who couldn't / wouldn't police their network. Comcast has the public's hate. Pacific is seen as doing the public a favor.
Not saying these are valid reasons, but they are reasons to contemplate. There are probably more that I didn't think of.
... I object to your insistent and endless efforts to drive my home value down and to give hypothermia to my cat.
I think they are all set as far as the ice-cold beer goes.
The trick isn't to use each SPU. The trick is to fully use the SPU and not have it waiting for memory look-ups or core-to-core communication.
Taxing the traveler is how they pay for all those "Come visit New Jersey!" ads.

Maybe there wasn't a need until now.

There was me until about a month ago. :-)
Agreed. Especially when you consider the low product quality that results and higher developer-count required to deliver with lower-cost developers.
I wonder if he would have included the age if she'd been young.
Or the gender of she'd been a he. :-)
You damn liberals always want to be nice to the bad guys!!
I suggest we slice out their innards and then string 'em up!
This witch hunt lacks fire...
This sort of solution needs to be applied to areas other than just Somalia. Many (but not all) of our enemies are poor.

If the planes you've flown on are reverse thrusting while flying over homes... then am I replying to a ghost post?
Are there really clouds there? Or is it one big barbecue?

It is possible, even if not entirely likely.

This post prompts a longing for mod points...
(treading carefully not to invoke Godwin's Law)
Maybe they are trying to distance themselves from past mistakes and be better as the Germans have done.

Exactly, what happens when someone comes busting in and puts a cap in your gaming rig?
We all know what happened to the XBox when it got shot... the DVD was knocked off it's track.
(sorry, I looked but couldn't find a link)
When I am web surfing and playing solitaire, I can't afford to have my CPU or graphics card overheat. And don't even get me started on email.
You're using Vista, aren't you.
You have what some people call... skills.
If it appears in the mainstream media, I'm so shorting the RIAA's stock...
