  1. Absolutely outstanding... on Child's Play Profiled by NYT · · Score: 2, Interesting

I still can't believe that Child's Play raised $885k this year. That's ridiculous growth over the three years they've been running.

Kudos to Mike and Jerry, and everyone else who makes Child's Play possible.

There's a syntax error in your formula.

  4. Honestly... on Pro Gaming Comes to Network TV · · Score: 1

I can't wait to see how they present this. I've never watched a televised gaming competition, and I can't imagine how a network can even hope to convey the experience of actually being present.

  5. Is this surprising? on Take-Two Signs In-Game Ad Deal · · Score: 1

Advertising in popular media is basically a fact of life at this point. It's far too profitable to do away with. The only reason this bothers me is the fact that every example of in-game advertising I've seen is far too obtrusive.

I've accepted that this is where games are going. Now that there is a larger and more accepted base of consumers viewing a product, the natural next step is to sell them things while they are entertained. The issue is maintaining the integrity of the original product. It's the same reason pop-ups are frowned upon and generally associated with low-class websites.

The occasional poster or soda can is fine by me. It's a matter of fitting in with the game in question. Things like sponsored loading screens are out of the question, though, because we all know for a fact that it would result in longer loading times (to standardize payment for advertisers).

    Duh.

I would know. I'm from Cincinnati, OH. And I love eyebrows.

  7. Re:Apparently on Former Spy Poisoned By Radiation In UK · · Score: 1

This is a man murdered, probably by agents of a totalitarian state. With the level of freedom-consciousness that's usually evident on Slashdot, I'm surprised you all are joking about it and not up in arms.
In fairness, Russia has yet to be officially implicated in this affair. True, there was an obvious motive for the Russian government to assassinate Mr. Litvinenko.

And the elsewhere-mentioned similarity with the Markov assassination.

Plus the method of murder clearly (hopefully?) rules out civilian involvement.

    Dang... Russia is getting sloppy.

Let us not forget the man responsible for the haunting arrangement of said cover, as well as the entire score to Donnie Darko, Michael Andrews. Credit where credit is due.

  9. Re:Loosing exclusive titles hurts on PS3 Missed Ship Targets, Loses Exclusives · · Score: 3, Insightful

I agree entirely. Pressure from a few of Sony's powerhouse studios already resulted in the Japanese price drop. Konami & "Squeenix" felt the high price point would result in a smaller installed base, resulting in lower sales for their titles. If studios are concerned that titles like Metal Gear and Final Fantasy won't sell, there could be trouble ahead for Sony.
