  1. Re:Sony's service, however, is unaffected on Xbox Live - The Christmas Zombie · · Score: 0

    wait wait wait.

    i was one of those 3. i just bought a ps3.

on another note, i have finally figured out something about the ps3. it isnt the console or lack of games that is the issue. its the marketing. it seems lame. i walked into a store to buy a xbox 360, halo 3 and a xbox live subscription, only to find out that prior to other marketing, there is no wireless card built in, and its a sh!tty usb dongle instead. pass. i hate usb wifi dongles, nothing but trouble. so i thought to myself "well metal gear comes out soon..ah ill get a ps3, i want a blu ray player anyway", and i have to say, after playing it for about 3 days straight now, im glad i bought a ps3 over an xbox. they are very, very smooth consoles. its just the marketing for them sucks. i mean a dog that turns into a poodle? what does that tell me about the engineering of it?

and playstationOne is actually decent. yes, its not xbox live, by any means. but its fairly stable and team fotress 2 plays great on it, i find matches within 20 seconds.

and i have had one kernel panic which resulted in not being able to load the os again.

what was the cause you ask? faulty ram installed by the apple techs. i took it back to the store, they replaced the ram and it worked again, and they did all this work in front of me basically.

so in other words, the only time i've had a kernel panic is from faulty hardware.

  3. what they fail to tell everybody on Name-Your-Cost Radiohead Album Pirated More Than Purchased · · Score: 0

what article fails to mention is the very simple fact that even though this "album" has been released on the internet, radiohead also announced last week they are releasing this album on cd with an extra 7-8 tracks. so even if people paid for this album, if they are a radiohead fan they are going to have to fork out more money to get those additional tracks. so realistically, this was nothing but a marketing ploy.

  4. Re:Where the fuck is Deckards goat? on Blade Runner, The Final Cut · · Score: 0

    look i completly agree.

the book, "do andriods dream of electric sheep" explains a lot more about the world of decard.. i saw the movie and loved it (even though at the time it was for high school) and it wasnt until years later i picked up the book, which IMO, is a much better story, even though the ending is even more wacked.

what i dont understand though, is through out the blade runner discussion, the debate as to whether decard was a android or not, never stops and makes you think "wait, maybe thats the whole point, maybe the androids are so life like you simply cannot tell the difference, and does it really matter because of that"

in the book.. he comes some kind of vision of mercer (who isnt even mentioned in the movie.. ), and he finds out mercer was just an android all along, built to put faith into people while they are suffering (if i've missed something, correct me, as i would love more input into the ending)

maybe thats where the discussion stems from.

the multiplayer may be free, but it is not or will never be good as xbox live. i'm a wii owner, but i've also had an original xbox and the multiplayer was unsurpassed. yes, you payed for a connection to it, but they provided centralized servers for the games to be played on.

if the online play is anything like the ds (where you wait in a waiting room for randoms to show up until a game starts) then i'll be giving it a miss.

  8. i find it funny on Sun May Be Warming Both Earth and Mars · · Score: 0

that the majority of people here that bag global warming fail to recognise the fact that no scientist actually disputes global warming, they dispute if we are the MAIN cause. No actual science body is actually denying it, or denying we are one of the many factors. in saying that, while the sun probably is causing both planets to heat up, it doesnt help that our emissions are contributing to the warming. the bigger question is, what have you personally done to change this? myself, after i saw "an inconvient truth" i thought i could contribute by getting a car that doesnt have as much emissions, so i bought a mazda. i also added myself to my electricity company's green plan, which changes your source of electricity from coal to solar and wind. so before you go denying global warming, while driving your suv and stating sudo facts that have been fed to you by organizations who benefit from not complying to the kyoto treaty, stop and think about what you could do. the other point is, what is there to lose? wouldnt you feel better knowing you contributed to a better enviroment and then later being proven wrong that we havent caused it.at least you did the right thing at the time, rather than driving your SUV around, and then singing "we're doomed, we're doomed" and blaming it on everyone else but yourself? sorry, i just get annoyed when people put their head in the sand.

Other devices can do the same, but they dont do it as WELL or as polished as the iphone does. other smart phones are a bit clunky, imo, and this seems really good. i think it has something to do with the O/S. and with other apple products, look at the design. no buttons, pure multi touch, its nicer to look at and probably use. its like comparing a toyota camry to a ferrari and saying they both do the same thing because they have power windows air conditioning and take fuel. you ignore the engine and the parts that make the ferrari not a camry. and thank god.

seriously though, this really was written by a marketing department. anyone in any form of IT or is IT savy knows that vista is just doing what osx and any linux distro did about 3 years ago.

welcome to 3 years ago, microsoft :)

note: i do like vista, and there should be no one running xp or lower once vista gets released. its security fixes are great for windows users, and lets face it there is no way we are going to convince joe bloe who gets spyware 10 times a week to get linux or a mac, so they may as well upgrade to the latest windows o/s and be safer.

  14. i dont see the problem on Security Companies Tussle With MS Security Center · · Score: 2, Insightful

if the host system has implemented its own version a security center, like vista, and has essentially blocked what truely is a 3rd party app to help windows do what it was meant to do in the first place, thats fine. i would rather something build into the kernel of the o/s than a 3rd party app that breaks windows when you uninstall it, and when it is installed, it slows your pc down to a grinding hault.

ultimately its windows' product, their space, and it is not their fault another company has based their entire product range on a previous microsoft product with security flaws.

maybe their time has ran out. i doubt it, but i like to know that the people making vista are attempting to fix mistakes from their previous range of products. if this ultimately leads to a more stable, secure product, i dont see a problem.

linux and mac users do not need antivirus, and do not need a 3rd party app to slow down their pc. one of the reasons of this is because on linux and mac you need to enter a administrative password to do anything that is going to affect the operating system. if im not mistaken, vista has also implemented this. if this is the case, what is the need for symantec products

we've had anti virus on windows for so long we've gotten used to the fact that we need it, when truely we shouldnt.

i welcome this. ... and im a mac user, and a IT engineer that works with microsoft products all day.

where is the PR machine? sure, WE know novell has linux, and WE know why linux is good, but where the heck is the PR for this product?

the reason why microsoft does so well has nothing to with their distrobution or the actual product, it has everything to do with getting the product out there, SHOWING people why they should buy linux.

i mean god, sure, ive seen advertisements for novell suse in computer magazines, slashdot etc, but what about at football stadiums (microsoft have a advertisement at the melbourne cricket ground, our biggest stadium, stating "microsoft windows xp: be whatever you want, be loyal" etc..) and places like shops where people would just wonder what the pc product is that promises stability, easy use, and why do they have a lizard as a icon?

in other words, the reason why novell isnt doing well with selling linux is that they are targeting the wrong audience and need to get their name and brand out there, simple as that. microsoft have that downpat.
