Even if people want to get help, it can be prohibitively expensive. If you want to get more people help then you should be fighting for a national healthcare program.

It seems to me that the promotion of conspiracy theories and fake news will play a larger part in future elections. I can easily see it being used to drive a wedge between the hard right and the primary candidate of the right. By driving a portion of their voters to someone with no chance of winning (e.g. a Libertarian candidate), Democrats could make it far easier to win elections due in part to the first-past-the-post voting.

  12. As humans, we should take responsibility for our actions and clean up the messes we make, even if it's not an immediate threat. The environmental problems we face are a tragedy of the commons. To solve these issues, every product sold should have an additional tax for how much environmental damage was done in it's construction. The tax would go directly to companies that actually clean up the messes being made. This would solve the landfill problem in it's entirety and create a massive new job market dedicated toward reversing the damage already done.

The only remaining problem is the people who don't care about how badly they are damaging the planet as long as they save a buck.

That's what happens when you have a carroonish view of politics and react emotionally whenever you're not getting your way.

To be fair, Trump is a caricature of a politician, his administration follows his lead and he has congress backing him. He's also appointed many less than qualified federal judges, is attempting to discredit the FBI and undermine faith in the free press. His extreme behavior is very similar to dictators (which he admires). This is not normal.

  15. This seem as obvious as the observation that the latest version of software isn't always the best.

  16. The problem with your examples is that they failed the first qualification of being by entities of purely malevolent behavior. US government institutions aren't perfect but they are far from purely malevolent behavior. No doubt there is some tyranny happening (and it is being opposed) but it can be rectified because their intent is to serve the public (even though they may be fucking it up). However, for-profit corporations are entirely self-serving with no intent but to extract money from targets.

Nuance is required before enacting extreme measures because the world is rarely black and white.

  17. there's a vast array of ongoing injustice and tyranny that you'd already be out burning down.

Do tell me of the tyranny that lacks legal recourse and isn't being sabotaged already. Life is full of ongoing injustice but that's very different than tyranny.
