  1. The current system is designed so that when a breach happens US citizens can band together for a class action suit.
    This means that a law firm will make millions or tens of millions of dollars and the REAL victims will get $1.23 (less taxes).

    And all up, this costs the corporation less money than doing the job properly.

    The system is working exactly as it was intended to.

    God, some people think rich people are just made of money, do you not know how much a Ferrari costs these days

    All those physical items take time, materials, skill, etc etc etc to replicate (mug, pen, picture, etc) Music on the other hand can be copied for free, and where another artist has used their time, money and skill to re-record the track, both they and the original artist get financially compensated via licensing.

    And how long will it be before someone writes a browser plugin (or an App) that allows you to capture that song for FREE.

    People are already doing that with Youtube.

    "Free Marketing" is almost worthless, Sound is already "OFF" by default on my machine and I run ad blockers as well as an extensive host file. And this is a growing tend. Browsers are comping with the ability of have sound off individualized for web sites as well as autoplay videos being stopped by site.

    Cash is King, especially when pitted against vague promises of future earnings that may never eventuate.

    Interestingly enough I think Apple had a OO Basic but Microsoft scuttled that saying "We do languages" And it was after the frustration of no Apple programing language that was any good for home/school that Hypercard was developed.

    WebOS copied from PalmOS.
    PalmOS copied from the Newton.

    The Newton was the first PDA, so all roads eventually lead back to Apple.

    Are we going to say that Palm copied the first PDA from Apple ?

  8. Yep and I have been watching a lot of youtube videos to learn the basics from.

    And from there I will get a friend around to make sure when I first use the thing in anger I will not harm myself, break a window or scare the dog.

    Possibly looking at a Seig C2 for a start and see how I go from there.

    Nope, I have a Netflix subscription.

    I am NOT going to buy one for HBO, or Disney, or any other service. I have stopped going to the theatre because its too expensive and too many of the "must see greatest film of this year" are just over hyped crap.

    I have zero interest in being force fed adverts.

    So basically I have been pushed towards reading books, and taking up a hobby. Looking buy a small lathe and learn how to use it to make model steam engines etc

    First law suit by MPAA and others looking for pirates and WHAM all your data is now with a bunch of lawyers and their clients.

    There is only ONE way for a company to never hand over data, that is to never collect it in the first place.

  16. Google knows it will more than make up the $3 Billion from Apple users so it is willing to spend that money.

    It has been shown time and time again that Apple users are more willing to buy stuff, therefore the ads to Apple users are worth more to Google and the people who place the adverts.

    What if you were Gay and wanted to get Married in a church ? There were certainly marriages before the birth of christ, and there are certainly marriages in other cultures and religions, so christianity can not claim to have ownership of the principles of Marriage.

    There are some Christian groups who believe that they should not have to make a wedding cake for gays because it is against their beliefs

    Supporters say, its their business, they can do what they like.

    There are some people who believe that they should not have to host Hate sites because it is against their beliefs

    Those who oppose this say "Free speech" is being destroyed.

    So which is it, because those two ideas are diametrically opposed to each other.
    You can not have it both ways.

    If you believe web sites can be forced to host material they object to, then you must also agree that churches must host gay weddings.

    Yeah in the USA, they simply use illegal NSA tools to spy on their citizens and hack into their phones.

    And warrants are now just a rubber stamp away from approval in the USA anyway.

    And if you are really pushed, just get the police to go in there, pretend they saw a gun and shoot the person, in their _private_home.

    Or you can just plant drugs and imprison them that way. You just need to get the police to turn off their body cams first.

    Yeah, its not like the USA will ever demand you unlock your phone at the boarder, demand you hand over what your social web site log/pass are, finger print you, etc.

    I guess its also lucky they asked questions first and did not just start shooting.

    Or perhaps they could throw you into a for profit prison and forced you to work, but its OK because they are prisoners not slaves.

    Maybe China needs to elect a sexual predator to their highest office

    From an outsiders perspective where we are not inundated and indoctrinated about how "great" the USA is, it actually looks just as sick as China, but just for different reasons.

    Why would Trump nuke California ?

    Isn't that one of the states that love him, bigly ?

    On the flip side, the rest of the world will be watching to see how the US handles this, NK , a country that can not only shoot back but WILL shoot back. Worse though is that if the US shoots first, China may join in the shooting back.

    I am not so sure that:
    Trump is capable of accepting he is only the president, not god
    The US is capable of accepting it is NOT in charge.

    Oh god 6800...I still have nightmares having to write a printer driver for a Heathkit 6800 trainer board as one of my course requirements. Hand assembling the code and entering it onto the damn thing via a hex keypad.

    Right up until they challenge some preconception you have.

    Its not "new knowledge" thats the problem, its forcing people to change their existing "old knowledge".

    Excellent examples of this is Politics, and Religion. Science has its problems too, thats why we end up with conspiracy theories (faked moon landings, etc) and the anti-vax crowd, Chem Trails, Area 51, among others.

    People with strongly held beliefs have a strong conformational bias, i.e. anything that agrees with their ideas is "knowledge / proof " anything opposed is "fake news".
