Yeah, I get that, I was hoping if they did 100s of millions of domains that maybe it would wake-up ICANN... I am probably giving ICANN too much credit.
IANAProgrammer, how hard would it be to write a simple program (FF extension?) that basically brute-forced their who-is (not enough to get one in trouble for attempted DOS, but enough to make lots of entries) with bogus domains until they had 10's or 100's of millions of addresses (or more)? Obviously it would take many people running it, but how many people on/. alone would dedicate a bit of bandwidth to the task? Perhaps have a use-definable setting of how many queries per hour.
If it was spread out enough, would they likely stop/be able to stop it? Forgive me if my ignorance in programming hurts your eyes, please feel free to educate me as to why this is a bad idea if it is... but if not & you have the ability -- would you do it (not directed directly to the parent)?
If you like the idea, please mod my post to make it more visible -- mod it funny, I'm not karma whoring (for you new mods: funny does not affect karma).
Since I had no mod point to take you from +3 Insightful to +4, I thought I'd post.
I've been re-watching ST:TOS lately & something that has bugged me is that we thought there would only be one computer on the Enterprise hundreds of years in the future & that everything would go through it. Then in TNG, everything had a computer of some sort in it.
You may have a point & possibly we're only seeing the second of many pendulum swings. I realize StarTrek is fiction, but Roddenberry may have been on to something.
O/T, Please ignore, posting sans karma bonus. Accidentally modded someone wrong and posting to remove the eronious mod (but I don't have anything useful to say).
Excellent explanation, similar to what I tell people when they complain about labels (I love 'em!). A friend of mine countered recently though with nesting folders. How would you (easily) simulate that? Can you make a label that the criteria is that the mail have two other labels? IE: 'Family' + 'Birthday party' = 'Family Birthday Party' tag?
So if I convert my hypothetical illegal mp3 library to xvid/avi & put some crappy homemade video to it it's legal? I can minimize a video player as easily as an audio player...
(yes, I know it would be bigger, yes, it would be another generation, no, I am not admitting to having an illegal mp3 library, hence "hypothetical")
It took me almost a whole 30 seconds to figure it out (including the time it took to logout). Decrease your threshold to -1 & change threaded to flat. Then you can see everything even if you are too lazy to sign in:P
//oh, that's cool - there's an MP3 option for the captcha, nice!
Except that Ubuntu is a real word with an appropriate meaning. Unlike The Gimp ... nevermind ;)

wtf?? How's that work? I love it, I get it, but how'd that ever get to be?
You may be trying to be funny, but if you RTFS, you'd see that Adam would have had to have been female.
Posted without karma bonus as close to being OT.
I'm only guessing, but I believe he meant 300 years worth of technology, not that it would take them 300 years to rebuild.
What if they both do?
(posting without karma bonus, as I'm largely being a smart a**)
Geeks can't get MacOS now?
Yet another reason not to be a Mac user?
I kid, I kid! Man, I used to have great Karma, I wonder what happened.
Season 7, Episode 9: Force of Nature

Like /.'ers know the size of an exercise ball?
But if you have a hydrogen powered generator powering the electrolysis ... just get a crank to get it started & voila! Perpetual motion.
Musta been a typso
Or Fox Mulder
Crap. As it turns out I haven't read the moderator guidelines well enough as posting anon while logged in is enough to undo moderation.
Yes, this is OT, but a good reminder to other mods. Feel free to mod down if you must, -1 offtopic would be appropriate.
So he's a foreigner too - lock him up in gitmo!

I would have modded the first post as insightful if I had mod points today (of course, then I'd have wasted the point telling you about it, oh well).

Is my VCR abusing the cable company?

I wasn't sure how to answer him.
My install of PS CS3 was under 700MB, IIRC
YMMustV, apparently.

I have an attachment label, works great. //Posting sans Karma bonus as post is slightly OT.
