The first thing I thought when I read "there is plenty of competition" was "Bahahahaha, yeah right! Good one!".

Most places you get one or maybe two choices (and no, satellite doesn't count).

And hey, more choice would be good, but the opposite wouldn't be bad either: municipal fiber being more common. As far as I'm concerned, broadband is a utility.

They made Children of Dune in a tv mini-series sequel to Dune on the sci-fi channel.

Not technically a movie, but only because of length and presentation format. It had the production values easily - so it was pretty much a 4-5 hour long movie (and was sold on DVD that way).

Ok ok, the first one was a bit off (but it had Patrick Stewart and Sting!).

I just wonder what is to be gained by doing it again.

And indeed, after your trollish behavior, I certainly wasn't going to indulge you in going off-topic - so yes I specifically avoided it - no hysterics necessary.

You seem to have misinterpreted my initial post as an invitation to go through the entire subject with you. It plainly wasn't. You can call me whatever names you want for not feeding the trolls.

A "discussion" with the likes of you is scarcely a discussion at all. As stated, it was never intended to be a discussion of the larger issue - so by your definition, yeah it isn't much of one and wasn't supposed to be. The reason the "actual" discussion isn't being had is because you ignored that and moved on to the thing you obviously want to talk about instead.

Me: "Equating Saddam's behavior to the US is erroneous."
You: "But what is you personal position on torture???!!!"

You can see how that doesn't really follow - actually you probably can't - but anyway it doesn't. My position is irrelevant to the point I made, no matter how incredibly obsessed with it you are.

Yes, I do see a difference between "kidnapping, raping and murdering civilians" (literally, for the fun of it, in some cases) and "capturing (you can used kidnapping if you like) suspected terrorists from other countries, putting them in prison, feeding them 2-3 meals a day using food that complies with their religion, allowing them to worship as they please (even accommodating their religious holidays), rewarding good behavior with privileges, giving the international red cross access to them, and using waterboarding on the vast minority of them".

From what I recall about both the last two presidential elections, it was more about who you were voting against than who you were voting for.

In that light, it would be phrased "6/10 voted against Kerry"

In discussions since then it seems people all immediately equate voting for Bush to liking Bush, or thinking he was good, or agreeing with him or whatever. That is where you get those chestnuts like "60% voted for Bush, so this country is dumb". I don't think you can make that equation. Everyone I could find that said they voted Bush just didn't like Kerry or didn't want him to win. I bet they would have voted for someone better, if someone better would have been available.

I don't think people remember how crappy the candidates were in that election.

Which is why this is could be harmful. A lot of Good Things(TM) and innovation have come out of having tons of bandwidth at everyone's disposal. The promise of FTTH is just that; what would we be able to do if everyone had a massive pipe coming in and out? You certainly wouldn't have Youtube if people were trying to be miserly with bandwidth because they are being charged the equivalent of the old "Long Distance" telephone rates.

In fact, that is kind of what this reminds me of. I mean, hey, if I don't use my whole allotment this month, I want the extra back next month! I can just see the future now: "Rollover bandwith", "Night and weekend bandwidth", "Free mobile to mobile bandwith with other TW customers!"

A number of standardized terms are used in the discussion of starship weapons. Energy weapons include lasers, turbolasers, and ion cannons. Their beams carry high-energy particles that interact with the target to cause explosive damage. Quoting from the laser cannon entry (specifically talking about those found on the x-wing, y-wing, and falcon):

Laser cannons are similar to blasters, only much more powerful. The cannon's laser actuator combines high-energy blaster gas with a large power charge. (The actuator's prismatic crystal produces the high-energy bream of charged particle coupled with light.)
