I'd say Mortal Kombat is more important on this catagory that Street Fighter. To accurate I'am talking about Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat III

What makes this thread interesting is that while Vista will not be running on todays most modern computers well, it will give some idea of what lies ahead in future. My computer is: Amd Athlon64 3500+ 2,2ghz, fx5700ultra and 1gb of dual channel 400mhz memory. I consider it to be avarage level modern computer, it's not the fastest but something that is normal consumer computer at home these days.

Vista is bitching slow in some tasks, it seems to be more unstable than XP in some ways and less compatible than XP in many ways. It also has highly annoying UI. But one good thing I can tell you about way's of vista: It's still the best windows release we might ever get. Why? Because it introduces us a lot of new things which can change some attitudes towards Windows.

  7. Re:No on Is Vista the New OS/2? · · Score: 1

Don't forget that while Developer kits for OS/2 cost a lot of money, Windows developer kits where given for free. So what happened because of this was that while Windows supported more newer hardware than OS/2 and was more multimedia oriented than Os/2 battle over consumers was lost.

There are lots of similar thoughts of OS/2 but we have to remember that it's still used in nuclear plants and banks because of it's "security" and "stability". (Note: I inserted borrowings because I cannot be sure. I am pretty sure of that OS/2 Warp4.5 has lots of unspoken security related problems.)

It's the time line between 1988 and 1990 which hold the fate of Os/2. It was so close that we would be running now a IBM OS/III: XP or IBM OS/IV: Vista instead of Microsoft Windows. I accuse IBM for bitching their fabulous system into trash can.

There is no point in Home Basic since it's missing important features like A.E.R.O. And somehow Ultimate doesn't offer anything special for the price point it ships. Expect huge discounts in future. When Ultimate comes with $200 price tag I think it will be acceptable. Home Premium for $100. And business for $150 or something.

But I don't like the idea that Microsoft will share their code with projects like Wine. Instead they should provide their own APIs for linux themselfs so that existing windows products (read: games) could be run on linux. Porting DirectX on linux isn't impossible task, but it's hard. I don't agree with you on couple of points here.
At first I want to tell that you are right about patching that game. It's possible to play it thought but with patches it's a lot easier and faster.

    1. ok. Daikatana was over hyped but so what? I don't care what kind of it could have been. I consentrate more on the game itself. I value only the game's existing parts and way these where made.
    2. not that I cannot agree with you but I cannot disagree either. AI althought it doesn't suck as much as you think with patches it it very playable game even when your own guys might struck on level or something like that. I experienced it only once. My buddies killed themselfs like two times on whole game. I don't think it's something of their fault. My fault leaving them with a lot of guys to fight against.
    3. Tell me please how does the game play of Quake, Quake3 and Unreal differ from Daikatana? Quake2 doesn't even have good single-player story. Half-Life is whole another thing but it's close enought to Quake2 that it's allmost accidentally made game which design flaws and limits made it classic. Deus Ex, game which was perfect as it could be. Mix of RPG and FPS. It is still FPS on bottom of it. And I know exactly how have the normal run, shoot, kill genre changed. Only graphics engines and stories change. Advantages in game play have been forgotten with Quake which betrayed us.
    4. Think about it that Daikatana was running Quake2, now how does the Quake2 look like to you? It looks like umh gray, brown, only a little of colours. Block-headed units? Damm. Daikanata has takes this into whole new level. It has graphics which don't compete against Quake3 but I could argue with you about the fact that it looks better than most of Unreal Tournament and Quake3 maps. Heck, NPCs in UT looke like they are on rails or something. I know lots of maps from Daikatana espesially from Greece which looks just amazing. Note that I say this because I compare Quake2 engine variations with Daikatana. Half-Life had outdated graphics when it came out. Daikatana looks better than Half-Life. Like I said, only the first episode is shit. I think that you have not played it entirely thought.
    5. I agree with you in this. It has bugs even after patching. Some of those are game killer bugs. But if you don't mind them that much they won't buggy you either.
    6. That's a joke right? Daikatana has somewhat good acting. It's not top of the guard. But it sure is better than on Half-Life or Quake3, sorry, Quake3 doesn't even have voice acting.
    7. Daikatana multiplayer. Explain why there still are servers for this game out there? :D Althought nobody ever plays on them I still would like to see the fact that Daikatana has working multiplayer. I have made my friends play it on LAN once. They didn't like it but I think it was enjoyable with being faster than Quake3 and somewhat more agressive than Unreal Tournament.

Totally agree that it should have come earlier. But after that I read the problems and got the explanations from the ION Storm history I think that even thought they made big mistakes. They freaking started making the game on top of Quake engine and then changed it into Quake2 which cause ernomous heache to the unexperienced team working with 400page design document made by Romero. OMG! I think they couldn't have made it better. Only Episode 1. sucks. Rest of the stuff is made properly and finalized right. It's great BETA version of the Daikatana. With patches it's great RC1 of the game.
I personally don't know a game which combines b class humour and big guns action as good as Daikanata. I hope that you don't compare Daikatana into Quake3,4 or Half-Life1,2 which are uliazing design and inventions made by Daikatana makers. Or where do you think Alyx came from? It's been so similary scripted that it's bit of odd. Also QUake3 map design. There are maps for Daikatana which are like maps for Quake3 but Quake3 also has maps which are like onces in Daikatana. That's also odd.

I don't argue here that Daikatana is best game ever. I argue that it needs more respect and sympathy. I think that everybody in game industry could learn something from Daikatana. Big Swords never die, even if they catch lots of negative press...
