I'll second this. rsnapshot can be installed via Darwinports (or manually; it's only two files:, a Perl script and a config file) and works beautifully on OS X.
I'm now using an external Firewire drive for my backups (the above hasn't been update to reflect this yet) and have written a wrapper script for rsnapshot that mounts the drive before running and unmounts it after. I'll be updating the article soon with details.
I hear this from time to time but I've never heard of a company exercising these alleged "rights" over code written on an employee's own time. In California this is illegal. What states would allow this sort of thing? And more importantly, why?
> eBay's a pretty complex application, and it's backend is entirely Java.
As I asked before, what's your source?
I'm not the poster you're asking, but maybe it's the "Java Technology" icon on nearly every page of their site? Check the top right corner, just below the search box and right next to the "Powered by Sun" graphic. Not to mention, it was all over the news (well, the type of news sites that would cover something like this) when they switched to a Java back-end a few years ago.
That's only on the MX farm though. The SMTP and POP/IMAP farms are still running Exim, according to the banners, which is how it was when I left there a couple years ago.
They can try, and good luck to them if they do, but OpenID is an open standard (hence "Open" in the name) created by people with no relationship to Verisign. They can't co-opt it any more than they could any other free, open standard out there, and you can use OpenID service from any provider you want.
Personally, I think it's great that they've adopted it. The more organizations using it the better. I don't plan to use them for my OpenID service -- I already have it elsewhere -- but their name will hopefully help it gain momentum with others.
Illegal or not, it happens. I brought a friend to ER with a concussion one night only to be turned away due to his lack of insurance. Their suggestion? Drive 30 miles to the county hospital.
... and so on (where PHP is replaced by your server-side language of choice). This way you write all your CSS in a single place but still have the ability to conditionally include certain things to fix the various IE bugs.
So I'm having trouble with why you think my kid should not be allowed on the same plane with you. You feel the same way about Jews maybe?
Whoa, watch that knee-jerk, cowboy.
Please re-read the previous comment and realize that the poster said that a) he's interested in a "no kids allowed" airline, not in banning kids on all flights, and b) he's willing to pay a premium for it. You and your kid are not being attacked and would not be affected in any way by his suggestions. Relax.
No, I'd say that Linux makes more sense. At least Unix window managers tend to open new windows in an unused region of the screen instead of right over the top of whatever you were working with last...
Wow, thanks for mentioning my single biggest annoyance with using Linux desktops: Applications that open in random places around my desktop instead of the position they were in last.
I have a good-sized monitor, this does not mean I want the new Firefox window I just opened to appear crammed up into the top left corner of the screen. How about putting it in a cascading position the way it does on OS X and Windows? How about Evolution staying put where I always keep it instead of requiring me to reposition it every single time I open it?

I've written up an rsnapshot on OS X howto as well as an overview of my own backup system.

Nothing like passing judgment, eh? You must be a real joy to be around.
What's wrong with that? Would you say the same about a vegetarian or someone who does not want to wear fur?
Says you. I once participated in the fitting of no less than seven people into a CRX. Thank god we weren't going far.
Probably not. OpenSourceCMS only showcases PHP applications.

If there were 1.4 billion radical Muslims on Earth, you'd know it. The world is not nearly that simple, sorry.
Q. How many Libertarians does it take to change a light bulb?
A. None, the market will sort it out.

Since when are hedgehogs rodents?

The Desert Fox! Now there's a man who could get things done!
Crappy? Have you seen the resolution of Real Life(TM)? The Sims doesn't even compare!
That's ok, because I don't think anyone has ever claimed this.
Homosexuality in nature, on the other hand, has been widely documented. I used to keep rats and I've seen it myself.
You forgot #4:
4) Donate the profits
Your point, again?
The term is Subgenius, pink boy.
Praise "Bob".
3com begs to differ. As do the millions of people out there with domains beginning with numbers (myself included).

Yeah, but Flash developers are like lawyers: it's that 95% that make the good 5% look bad.
You're about a year late. Web 2.1 was in October of last year. Web 2.2 is happening in just a few days.
When my SO started work there she was told that they'd be ordering her a Powerbook, followed by "unless you want to use Windows".
So yes, at least some parts of the company not only prefer Macs but use them by default.
