Of course all those computer UIs are unreal or impractical. Movies are made, or at least should be made, to boost our imagination and take to different places. And, some of these impossible things that were created by sci-fi stories are inspirations to real world tecnology, like voice recognition, motion sensors, and possibly much of the eye candy we see in the OSs of today.
So far I call shenanigans. I've seen a lot of these articles here and on other sites. Anyone has real proof of google products appearing always in first place in its searches and/or ads?
When I was learning limits in math, I was told that x / 0 = infinity. I always thought that in computer languages, or computers in general, it was much more a matter of representing this in the computer than knowing the "value" of the equation.
Yes, but being an integral part of the OS is a clear disadvantadge. This only means that is a short-cut to the OS system calls, that's the main reason windows is much easier to atack. IE should be only an application, as far from the kernel as possible. All browser are, or should be, html renderers with with some components to play media, and that's all. There's no reason a browser should have kernel access. It's just dumb.
I would like to know what is this. Is this some kind of bulletin board where political matters are discussed? Or is it managers responsible for board meetings of political nature?
Please clarify.
Everybody, clear your heads, take a deep breath, and RTFA. Joel is not talking about choices of OSs being harmful or choices of programs being bad. He is talking about the cluttered start menu on windows vista:
Every time you want to leave your computer, you have to choose between nine, count them, nine options: two icons and seven menu items.
But if you believe in the Bible, why do you need to seek scientific credibility[...]?
I honestly think that anyone has the right to believe in what he sees as closest to the truth, so if he believes the Earth was created in seven days, that's fine by me, but why they don't respect other points of view, since I respect theirs? Why this need to "prove scientifically" that creationism is correct and all else are lies difamation?
Let me get this straight? Oracle will use an altered version of Red Hat to beat Red Hat? wouldnt this prove that Oracle succeeded *because* the Red Hat distribution works?
Someone that criticizes his country is called an-american and starts hearing "love it or leave it" or "oh yeah, why you still here?" kind of speach. It is perfectly normal to hate a lot of things about your country and still live in it so you can see/help things change. Everytime I hear this "you do not love your coutry" story I remember of this episode of Boston Legal.

Does Live Anywhere plays for sure?
Oh how I miss the PC adventure games...

The fundamental question is: why can't I install two different versions of IE in the same windows installation?
Actually, the dupes are echoes from the first message, but the time gap between them is so large that they are interpreted as different messages...
2.4 billion years ago, cosmic rays travelled through space to create this first post.
I don't about the US, I'm from Brazil and I do care for Ultraman. It was one of my favorite shows .

I'm sorry to inform you, but Digg has nested posting for a while now.
I agree with you completely. I was just trying to what it looked like, you know?
It's worse, It's windows XP SP2 only. I have win2k with IE 6 and it refuses to work.
Found it strange that macworld reported this story?
You can say it was a mac-mac scenario ;-)

I find this one very good. And educational to boot.
By "an-american" I meant anti-american, sorry for the typo.

How about using parallels?...
I fear bringing obvious information, but the iPod is completely compatible with windows. Which is much more than can be expected from the Zune.
