To allow more conference calls to users who are using a specific CPU is a cheap shot at the market. It's not fair to chip makers, and definetly not fair to the consumers.
Then to hell with Skype. Use Google Talk or some other competitor.
This is cool...but I'll be REALLY excited when I see a dual touchscreen laptop or tablet computer with this tech that I can buy.
What's killing my brain is the background music for that demo video. I *know* it's David Bowie...but I can't remember which song. It might have been bg music for Omikron (video game that DB was closely tied with) or something else.
I haven't trusted Google since Desktop Search (which indexes pretty damned much everything on your machine) came out. No thank you. Google does NOT need to know what's on my HD.
Got a C-64 when I was 12 (someone get me a walker and some Geritol, please...and GET OFF MY LAWN, DAMMIT!). I still have it, although it doesn't work. I currently own:
1. 3 C-64s (total) - 2 original 64s and 1 C-64C
2. 1 VIC-20 (ROM burnt, but cartridges still work)
3. 1 C-128
4. Damned near every peripheral known to man for all of the above (including modems, multiple floppy drives, cassette drives and dot-matrix printers).
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of disrupting power flow to data centers in any way, but things like backhoes are protected against because most commercial data centers (think Rackspace) have huge, redundant generators...and if you can find a data center that uses water-based fire suppression systems instead of Halon (or an equivalent), you can be certain they're a fly-by-night operation.
As a human being with limited years on this earth, please forgive me if I take a short cut and make what is a pretty accurate generalization to save time. If you are against Darwin, you are probably against science.
I think you're just making bigoted generalizations. I'm pretty hazy on macroevolution, but I still believe in...ZOMG! What is this MAGIC BOX that I'm typing on?!? I press these things and things just magically appear in the GLOW attatched to the box! It makes light and has no heat!
THIS MUST BE OF THE DEVIL! BURN IT! BURN IT!
*rolls eyes*
If you honestly think we believe that technology can exist without science, you're more deluded than the creationists you disparage.
Not just all that, but you wonder if they ignored the physical factor...like setting off a small EMP generator (most likely a very small nuke) inside or near certain data centers. There are SO many more factors to cyberwarfare than just crackers.
That part was just a addon replying to all the rest of the anti-Bush hypocrisy floating around this story. All this partisan idiocy makes me seriously question the intelligence of/. denizens.
The US Government now is not into free market economics anymore. It is into business model protection.
Let me give you a hint: the US gov't hasn't been into free market economics since FDR (noted Democrat poster boy) and the New Deal made corporate subsidies and protections for big business a way of life.
Get off the "OH NOEZ!!!111 BUSH IS TEH EVILLL!!!111one!" crap and realize that both Reps AND Dems are crooked, corrupt and patsies of whoever has the most money.
I say let the big business bastards put all the DRM they want on stuff, BUT gov't should require companies to put a LARGE notice on any piece of media containing DRM and a description of exactly what it does (including any possible security breaches). From there on, it's caveat emptor. If someone is f'n stupid enough to buy a DRMd product, then they deserve what it does to their system or whatever restrictions it places on them. Also, if people knew exactly how DRM affected them, I'm sure sales would drop like a rock. THAT would send a message to the corporate greedmongers.
(For the record, I'm a dyed in the wool capitalist. I do not support overarching corporate greed, though.)
BINGO. I carry a wallet that's tiny anyway. No money--just cards. If I had to take my SmarTrip card out every time I had to get on the Metro, I'd end up going postal.
Since Threshold was given a bum shuffle on ABC and got cancelled, SciFi should pick it up and order new episodes. Surface is pretty good and Invasion is okay, but it pissed me off that Threshold got cancelled but Invastion got extended. Sick and sad.
If Apple came out with a phone that beautiful and had decent service, I'd switch in a heartbeat. With Sprint going through it's merger with Nextel, my Sprint service has gone to complete 5#!+. Not to mention their selection of phones has gone into the crapper (they don't even offer a crackberry anymore!).
Then if your child, that you helped create, is under 18 and murders someone...you should get life in prison (or the death penalty).
(Not that that's necessarily a bad idea. I'd imagine that parents would take a LOT more interest in actually raising their children if laws like that were in effect.);)
I still have a working PET 4032, although it needs the keyboard replaced. I also have 2 C64s (one working, one not), 1 C64-C, 1 C-128, 1 VIC-20 (system fried, but cartridges still work) and a TON of peripherals, including a Star color dot matrix printer, a Commodore 1200baud modem and Commodore cassette player. Not to mention all of the original software.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh for the days of BBSes.;)
P.s. Maybe people would be nicer to prostitutes if they were FREE
;)
There are "free" prostitutes...they're called "sluts".
HA! I'm actually re-reading Snowcrash at the moment. :D
Modded INSIGHTFUL?!?
*rolls eyes so hard they fall out of their sockets*

Anyone have a clue?

and the pièce de résistance...
5. A fully-functional Commodore PET 4032.

Besides..."EMP" is too cool to pass up.

You forgot: 5b.) Write a book which does nothing but rehash old ideas and a few new buzzwords and hit the lecture circuit.
There is no similar "Dirty Thirty" list for extreme right-wing professors
Maybe because professors that sound like Michael Savage never get tenure while the Ward Churchills of the world do?

Um... If I remember correctly... it was supposed to be a renewal for season FIVE.
Screw that ugly thing (although the modular idea is really, REALLY slick). Check this puppy out.

China and India have a lot of catching up to do.
