Maybe the voters weren't voting for Greene, but were really not voting for Vic Rawl. Is it impossible to not want ANYBODY that's new when ALL off the current politcos are just jacking up our country? Hell at this point I'd vote for anybody that was NOT a Dem or Rep.
I was thinking that when I read the headline. It's absolutely absurd sounding to ask which car saves more gas, the 20mpg one or the 50 mpg one and then to use math to make it sound like the 20mpg car is a better deal.
Maybe I should rephrase the question.
Which goes faster, going from 10 mph to 20 mph, or going from 33 mph to 50 mph? Could you actually argue that the 33 mph car is FASTER than the 50 mph car?
And also, it does matter what you use the car for. I upgraded my hyundai to a honda insight and use significantly less fuel week to week than if I had replaced my Jeep with the Insight.
So exactly why do we not hear any condemnation from the moderate Muslim communities? If the majority do not support the "radical" muslims, then why are they silent?
I use my ipod touch as a mini computer more than as a music player. The ipad is EXACTLY what I want, a somewhat larger ipod touch that you can do some light typing on. I also think the price is fairly reasonable for something that won't look horrendous sitting on my living room desk (boo for small apartments).
I just did a quick scan of Mark A.R. Kleiman's paper When Brute Force Fails: Strategic Thinking for Crime Control and his thinking makes sense except he is using time spent in prison as the punishment. I wasn't talking about increasing prison time, I was talking about making prison much harder of a time.
The topic isn't about the high prison population, I was talking about crime prevention, however I like this idea. Prison should be unpleasant as a deterrent. As long as people don't care about going, they will have no problem buying their tickets in.
Can you show me any proof, even anecdotal that the rehabilitation approach works when compared to the punishment approach? Rehabilitation is like curing the sickness, what I'm talking about is more like preventive health. Maybe we should have some sort of victim rehabilitation. Let them know that the rights they have that were violated really don't matter. What matters is that we "cure" the criminal. What is the crime rates of draconian type states when compared to America? Spewing insults to somehow prove your point really doesn't do much.
How does this compare to my opinions on terrorism? Killing lots of Arabs? My mother is half Palestinian you insensitive clod! And pro-authoritarian? Are you suggesting that I want some iron clad right wing government? I'm very liberal and think that MANY of our laws should not exist, but I'm talking about crime prevention and reduction. Oh and BTW violent reactions do have their place just as well as peaceful ones. I hope that doesn't offend your sensibilities.
Sure, rehabilitation might prevent future crimes by the same offenders, but some of us think prison should be more about punishment instead of rehabilitation. If prison was an extremely hard punishment, to the point that people were actively scared of going, it would deter more people from committing crimes in the first place.
Epic fail? This guy GPLs his software and you say "Epic fail"? I don't think it should matter what his reasons are, we should be happy that a formerly closed source application has embraced open source.
I'm with you. I don't take much stock in the amount of memory an application uses since memory has been so cheap for awhile. There really is no reason why even a notebook doesn't have at least 4GB IMHO.
Like we should all be outraged that companies want us to be in compliance with the voluntary licenses? I use FOSS as much as possible, but I guess my reasons are just different from a lot of people's. So many people say if you don't want to comply with the GPL, then just don't use GPL code, it's the same way with proprietary software. If you don't like the license, don't use the software. If you break the license, then you need to deal with the consequences. So sure, I can deal with being modded a troll, but if you read the OP above, he was outraged that Adobe enforced their license and even said they screwed themselves. If you did work for your boss and he didn't pay you, would you just "let [the boss] know where [he/she] went wrong and help [them] reach compliance"? Or would you use "Strong arming your [boss] into compliance"?
Example:
Your direct supervisor tells you, you can go home early, no need for you today.
You leave.
For one reason or another, HIS supervisor felt you shouldn't have left, CALLS YOU BACK IN, and fires you when you refuse.
It's perfectly ok and legal for your employer to change their mind on a policy and expect you to comply.
Are you saying that we get paid for not working? Last I checked that's what welfare is. All of us soldiers cash our "welfare" checks and sit around drinking and smoking dope talking about how the man is keeping me down? Hmm, I need to get in those types of units. Oh and BTW, an Army is authorized specifically in the constitution, versus welfare isn't.
I think growing up in extreme poverty must have ruined my world view. When I was born, my parents were literally homeless living in a run down school bus, no BS. When I was 9 we lived in an old trailer that had an actually hole in the side taped up with duct tape from where the previous renter tried to ram it with a car. I busted my butt in school, and then joined the military. Through hard work, and being a double war veteran, my household income is over $60k a year, and I've just about put myself through college with a Bachelor's Degree. Oh, and I was a teen parent, with a wife who didn't work. So when I hear about social mobility this and economic mobility that, I absolutely get sick. I too watched most of my lazy friends never come out of the poverty hole, and it's all because they are lazy. I hate to say it, but there really is something to the mentality of doing what you have to do to survive. Hell, when I was 20 years old, I gave freaking plasma twice a week for months on end just to make ends meet. Most of these so called "poor people" are the types to collect their welfare checks, and then go into the McDonalds that has the "Now hiring" sign and buy lunch from the people who are working and paying for that welfare check. And I definitely call BS on the can't move mentality. It takes a couple hundred $ to buy a run down car, pack your few belongings and head out to another town. I watched my parents do it.
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Every little bit counts, I've been donating $2 a month straight from my paycheck for the last several years. I know it's not much, but I figure enough drops in the bucket got to add up to something.
Hey, don't blame me because I figured out the system!
My IQ is 126, which makes me happy to be a part of the new overlords! Bow down before me you inferior clods!
Maybe the voters weren't voting for Greene, but were really not voting for Vic Rawl. Is it impossible to not want ANYBODY that's new when ALL off the current politcos are just jacking up our country? Hell at this point I'd vote for anybody that was NOT a Dem or Rep.
disingenuous about your obliviousness to your wastefulness.
It's not wasting if you paid for it.

The stated goals of prisons are to rehabilitate,
Sure, rehabilitation might prevent future crimes by the same offenders, but some of us think prison should be more about punishment instead of rehabilitation. If prison was an extremely hard punishment, to the point that people were actively scared of going, it would deter more people from committing crimes in the first place.

There really ought to be a "Tragic" tag
Oh yeah? What about Bruce Willis?
I'm with you. I don't take much stock in the amount of memory an application uses since memory has been so cheap for awhile. There really is no reason why even a notebook doesn't have at least 4GB IMHO.
Damn this comment makes me feel way too old.

"Stories like this"? Wow, so you refuse to use Adobe because they expect people who use their products to buy them? That makes sense.
It's perfectly ok and legal for your employer to change their mind on a policy and expect you to comply.

Mod parent up. The real problem is the fact that his buddy decided to enter a store and steal a CD.
