I can recount the story of a guy (air force pilot under training) at the RNZAF Base Wigram in Christchurch, New Zealand who, after quite a few late night beers decided to drive to the service station (US=gas station) to buy a meat pie (US=Pot pie).

Only thing is that he had no transport other than his (own personal) airplane. So he wanders out to the ramp, jumps in, and taxi's his aircraft past the main gate onto the road and to the gas station just outside the Base..

Of course this was back in the day when 'it wasn't so bad to drink and drive', and i'm sure he did a bit of a 'rug dance' in front of his CO on Monday morning... but went onto a rather successful career.

Wow, that is it right there. The clock it ticking.

    From GP

Although a presumption of laches arises where the patentee brings suit more than six years after gaining actual or constructive knowledge of defendant's infringing activities

When did Microsoft first announce that they believed 'Linux' infringed on their Patents? (or more specifically, when did Microsoft announce that they'd dreamed this all up and done the 'investigation' and came up with that 135 number...?) Personally, I think M$ are smoking something and if they'd just show us the code then it wouldn't even be an issue. At least they have to shut the hell up after 6 years... As if a terrorist would actually travel with such a book. But I can see the mindless TSA using their full force if they saw such a thing. Fox news would be all over it. Everyone would simply say how stupid the individual was to travel with it, and politicians would use it as an example of 'how we're winning the war on terrorism'. Where in reality, its a fake book cover intended for humor, and any 'common sense' would tell us that someone with this book cover is no more a threat than the guy next to him.

Sadly, arresting someone for mere possession of a book is a true sign things are very, very wrong.

No 'proof of intent' needed. Just lock them up. Heck, lock us all up.

The only difference with the case from the article, which falls into the first example you gave (cafe with the radio on) - is that the radio station has already paid a license fee to broadcast the music to the public.

I've found a little while ago that the latest Sony DVD's had some new form of Macrovision (?) on them, and my DVD player just gave me a blank screen. - No response from the player except to eject the disk. (although i can get it to play on my PC with a few minor hax...)

Even though, I still walk right back into the store and say, "Hey, this doesnt work in my player - all other disks do - what gives?" Or I'd file the "disk didn't play" report on Netflix. I heard that Sony pulled that form of Macrovision due to "incompatibility issues" (*cough* too many complaints *cough*), but every now and then another one pops up.

If enough people complain (to Blockbuster, Netflix, Walmart and Target), and with the number of 'defective' disks sent back they'll eventually start to get the message.... sooner or later.

I'm also intersted in the openmoko, and understand the retail kit will include a GPS. I believe it runs Linux (or other open source), and as long as they come up with a similar cache method, then great.
