is that kid's hairdo. Yo kid, the 1987 season of Growing Pains called and wants its hair style back. This guy [friendlyatheist.com] + this guy [wikimedia.org] = this guy [ocregister.com]?
Tell me why in 2007 these "last minute" conferences can't be conducted online? If you tell me the face-to-face neet is essential, why are you going into it with less than three days preparation?
You know anyone that works in real estate or venture capital? Ask them the same question.
The report goes on to discuss the likelihood that many Wiis are gathering dust in owners' cupboards, citing one software house president as saying, 'People bought it out of curiosity, and it's likely a lot of them haven't used it.' Given that September saw Wii sales fall sharply in Japan for the second consecutive month, it seems reasonable to speculate that the bubble inflated by the novelty factor is starting to deflate, but writing Nintendo off at any stage is a perilous course to steer
It also 'seems reasonable' to speculate that the decline in sales is because everyone has already bought one....
It also 'seems reasonable' to speculate that everyone who bought one still plays it every night...
They should have added "It 'seems reasonable' that the company the 'software house president' works for isn't selling as many games as they would like because their particular games suck balls."
The world's second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases is the People's Republic of China.
I have a few problems with that statement (and your whole post, but dont get me started)....
1. USA has essentially outsourced almost all manufacturing to China... If all the products 'made in China' were still being made in the USA, then USA's CO2 Emissions would be off the chart.
2. China's going through its industrial age. USA has been through theirs without regard for emissions....
3. "China is the second largest emitter of Greenhouse gasses".... well GUESS WHO IS THE LARGEST.....USA IS the largest contributor of greenhouse gasses. No good pointing the finger at number 2!
4. The real measure is 'emissions per capita'. USA is number 10. China is number 91. Qatar is number 1 but we don't hear much about them....
Its really easy to point the finger elsewhere... just not enough people pointing the finger back.
You looking at this the wrong way, this isn't about rational laws, this is about large TELCO'S seeing a decline in INCREASING PROFITS due to innovative and competition. So to keep their profits high and investors happy, they slip in a few free lunches for lawmakers so they include an exemption for VOIP so the Teclo's can keep the competition down.
there, I fixed that..... 'er I mean changed it to how I see it.
All this suing shenanigans scares the crap out of me ever starting a business. Become semi-successful and you end up with all the patent trolls banging at your door.
The patents here appear to be for the tools used to build the drives. IANAL, but I thought that patents covered only the end product. In this case, the patented tool can be claimed, but not everything ever built with the patented tool. This claim would need to be filed in the country where the tool was used, assuming that country has issued a patent on the invention.
Your post is the most informative point against this whole article. It almost needs to be pasted into every thread to stop the ridiculous arguments going on, over what is a non-issue.
(This article is almost in the same camp as that article in the New Zealand and Australian newspapers about 'Banning Plasma TV's' *OMG!!??*... turns out they're just as likely to ban incandescent lightbulbs... and these were all just ideas that the press ran with after reading an energy efficiency proposal.)
Well, at least the smart ones will buy Windows PCs for their students, since that will best prepare them for their future in the monopolistic non-thinking 'customer-is-a-criminal' world they'll going to grow up in, where large corporations dictate all terms, including the fines they receive, and tell you what is good for you whether you like it or not.
Think rationally for a minute. What benefit can a supposed micro-UAV provide in this kind of gathering?
Because it gives a certain Defense contractor another contract. Its not too far fetched to see this micro UAV thing presented by some slick Defence hardware sales guy in the confines of a meeting where its sold to 'complement' the other techniques you outlined. It'd be perceived by the DHS suits as 'great for the war on terror' with the real thinkers not standing up and saying "but we can do this with current surveillance etc".
Key phrases the salesman can use to these DHS types all juicy and hard: Low observable; near silent; swarm; mesh network; COTS; Network centric; identify and record individuals within a mob; biometrics; 'not having to risk personnel on the ground near potential suicide bombers'; growth for additional sensors such as Biohazard, Nuclear and Chemical detection; full swarm program only $70Million.
"Sold.. to the guy in the blue suit (with the new Mercedes in the garage and the envelope in his back pocket)... Shall we do the final acceptance test it at the upcoming anti-war rally? OK.. good idea. Lets see if there's any alquada sympathizers hanging out with the hippies and democrats and moms and patriots^W, oops I mean, communists. "
Shrink that down to a 6" diamater and to be honest, you wouldn't be able to control it in anything but a room with no fans, etc, causing air currents
Not without adding light weight peizo gyroscpoes (typically only used for yaw compensation in RC helicopters). If you've got the budget and the time - *cough* DHS *cough*, then something like this is not beyond todays tech.
Two issues I see are (1)flight time (battery drain especially when transmitting video from the object), and (2)control distance. If you're going to try to catch one, you better run fast when you do, because the operators can likely see the thing from where they're operating it.
I can't be the only fool who would love to catch one of these babies and take it home to play with... anyone selling butterfly nets with Faraday cages installed?
No Sir! I'd love to catch one. Lets just home someone does, and then tears it apart like the first analysis of the iPhone...
The real question everyone would be asking is "will it blend?"
Do you really mean to imply that meat pies are in your country similar to pot pies in the US, or are you just trying to make an "Americans are stupid" joke?
Chill Dude. I'm a New Zealander who (now) lives in the USA. The closest thing to a New Zealand Meat Pie is a pot pie - and wished to avoid people thinking sweet pumpkin pie but with meat. The closest thing to a NZ service station is a gas station - as you have pointed out, service station in the USA does not always have gas pumps, where in NZ service stations always have gas (petrol) pumps.
The only reason I included the meat pie and the service station bits, was to ensure the story came across accurately and to properly convey the sense of danger of Driving a propeller aircraft onto the forecourt of a gas station for no other reason than to buy a $1.50 meat pie.
the new phone can measure things like body fat, pulse, and even stress level through a series of questions.
My wife has a ring on her finger that does exactly the same thing. When she's feeling fat and her pulse is elevated with a high stress level, the ring leaves a big red dent on my forehead.
Those guys at the Register are pretty good at letting you think you're reading one thing while it actually says something different....
I always read their articles with a 'what are they really saying', and usually read someone else's article on the same topic to see how much FUD/exaggeration they crammed in there...
I still agree with your premise that their pushing sh*t up hill with a very small stick....

the specs look enough to run a lightweight OS (damn-small-linux) and a bit torrent client...

This is a game of two halves and four quarters right? Hope they stop for some entertainment mid-trial.

Good post though.
They were going to cast Keano Reeves as Spock, but found during auditions that he doesn't have the range of emotions required for the role.

one word: YUM!!!
The only reason I included the meat pie and the service station bits, was to ensure the story came across accurately and to properly convey the sense of danger of Driving a propeller aircraft onto the forecourt of a gas station for no other reason than to buy a $1.50 meat pie.
Rug dance... think of Irish Stepdance but a young officer in front of his Commanding Officer, afraid for his life....
...
Or the dance the man does in the movies when a cowboy shoots near his feet
No probs!!

To reply to my own comment.... FTFA:
"The Transition isn't a PAV; it's a normal light aircraft which can fold its wings at the touch of a button and become a car, and which runs on unleaded.
Who says it's VTOL?
This one has wings that fold out and takes off and lands conventionally - hence the bit about finding a runway...
