As the old fable goes they use some kind of mobile TEMPEST setup to work out if you have a (CRT, LCD they can't pick up) TV and even what you happen to be watching (so you can't pretend it's only for video's or something). I'm not so sure on the last part, but you can detect a CRT using nothing but a reel of cable as an aerial, a PC soundcard and a couple of 100MHz of CPU. Plug it all in and look for the 15kHz scan in some waterfall spectrum analysis software. I highly doubt they actually do this, as it probably not be very reliable and as mentioned it doesn't pick up LCD TV's. In my experience they generally just go round to houses without a TV license and knock on the door.
Sorry, I would of taken you seriously but unfortunately you tried to bolster your argument by linking to a paper (The Sun) that feels proud that the introduced the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Page_Three_girl Page 3 girl as a daily occurance?
As much as I 3 FOSS, I had to install the VST dssi wrapper and install some Windows commercial plugins. I have always found that pretty much every single OSS audio synth/fx unit just doesn't sound half as nice as the commerical ones:-(
Then you are extremely lucky. The problem with using a magnetron outside of it's shielding is that the microwaves can burn out your retina. Because you do not have pain recepters in your retina's, you end up going blind (almost) without noticing. That's why pretty much EVERY microwave has a hardware interlock to prevent anything like this from happening.
It would be like a security camera, if that camera wouldn't let you out the door of the shop until it certified that you were a valid shopper. Or something. Apples? Oranges?
Well, the problem being is that I don't feel I have the right to take someones life. Guns tend to do that. If I wanted to stop an intruder there's a billion other ways including nonphysical means that I'd use first.
Plus the one thing to remember violence in the UK, it's not altogether out of the ordinary for two people to knock the crap out of each other then sit down and have a drink and a laugh about it afterwards. You don't get that when the final blow was a bullet through the brain. Queensbury Rules!
I recently started again playing Sam and Max: Hit the road thanks to these lovely people porting scummvm to the Nintendo DS:

You'll need a Nintendo DS with some method of playing homebrew, which isn't as scary as it sounds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DS_homebrew
I'd recommend getting a Supercard, as you can utilise the 32M GBA ROM space in DSLinux.
Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit on that one. I seem to remember that Doom came out a looooooong time before thumbdrives really existed. You sure it wasn't Quake?
I remember reading about how Tesla travelled all over with a high frequency AC system and was doing the old magic trick of 'Hold the power cable in one hand and touch a light bulb with another'. HF AC is apparently pretty much harmless, so it was a good publicity stunt, but HF AC is not suitable for transmission over any great distance unfortunately.
There is a web browser already available.
Someone ported retawq (text based browser) to http://www.dslinux.org/ and now that XIP is working apparently it's actually nearly usuable. Someones got nano-x working as well, but I think that due to RAM limitations having Firefox on top of DSLinux is you waking up blowing bubbles in your cornflakes.
Also semi working is IRC, SSH and I've played around with NFS, it sorta works. The other thing about OperaDS is the fact that there are going to use the GBA slot for extra ram, or so I've heard, so that may mean the homebrewers get more to play with.
I think you'll find that it wasn't the microphone that was picking up that 15KHz signal, but much more likely the mic cable, see my later post for more info.
Get a program called SPECLAB, hook up a few hundred meters of coiled cable and plug it into the mic socket. Now witness the 15KHz tone of TV's in a lush waterfall pattern. It's a bit like the matrix, I can tell when a train goes past on the line a few hundred meters from my house, when someones using a drill in my street etc etc.
See here for more info: http://www.vlf.it./ Check out their Unexplained signals gallery, much fun. Just watch out for those russian ZEVS transmissions, I could go on for hours about it so.....

Not forgetting: http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/ for Redhat. Also noone has mentioned the fact the Windows VST's (virtual instruments) can now run in linux with a combination of Wine, jack and Vsthost. http://ladspavst.linuxaudio.org/
Wondering where Kent Brockman lives, anywhere near here? (Very tenous, I know)
