Not every story on the AP wire will get published by newspapers that subscribe -- the editors choose what to publish and what not to. I doubt this story will make any but the lengthiest print publications, and certainly not headline any online ones.
Just for sake of argument, let's say you're more than right and this story receives equal coverage on the news; let's say every person who saw the original story sees this correction. Now, it's just a survey, so people know it represents an estimate of the actual percentage. If you were to ask each person what they thought the actual percentage was, would they guess 15%? Or somewhere in-between 15 and 44%? Like my OP's title suggested, first impressions are important -- even when we're talking about numbers.
P.S. And about actually going to the link: come on, man, this is/.
Of course they promise they'll look into it now, because it doesn't matter anymore. The mass public will remember that the MPAA loses 44% of its profits to piracy. That it's since been proven incorrect is almost inconsequential, when it comes to public opinion: the mass media won't cover the story twice just for the sake of correctness, and people will buy right into the MPAA's 'accidentally-mistaken' survey's results.
Natural selection and sexual selection were originally two different theories; natural selection focusing on traits beneficial to survival whilst sexual selection proposes that more attractive traits survive due to them being preferred - these traits may even hinder survival. Both theories were coined by Darwin, I dunno if they're still both separate or not.
Even if you weren't just an annoying troll, you should at least know that DarkAlex never actually left. He just hid under the pretense of team m33 (or something like that), to see how the community would react to his disappearance.
You've never been part of a mega-corporation that believes in team-building exercises, have you? I'm pretty sure that, in the realm of team-building exercises, moving a virtual boulder 1400km is relatively productive.
To which Bill replied: 'I'll have to ask [IE general manager] Dean [Hachamovitch] what the hell is going on, I mean, we're not, there's not like some deep secret about what we're doing with IE.'"
Of course there's no deep secret about it. "We're doing nothing" is hardly a secret, after all.
This is simply the first step, you see, as Microsoft makes clear the order of things.
As their dominance and power spreads, they'll soon be installing two water fountains in public places: one for Silver accounts, and for Gold. The bathrooms and movie theaters, too, will be segregated based upon one's Xbox Live Status. And, if a Gold user wishes to sit on a full bus, a Silver user will be required to give up their seat for him.
Of course, it won't stop there: as the idea of "separate but unequal" facilities for paying and non-paying customers spreads, it will eventually reach the polls. Yes, Silver members will be required to pay a poll microtax in order to vote. However, to protect Gold members from this tax, a Grandfather Clause will be passed, which will let one vote if their Grandfather paid for his Xbox Live Account.
Although the Silver users will protest, both peacefully and violently, it will surely take decades of slow progress and bloody riots before the segregation is repealed. And, even then, Account Class-ism will pervade society at its deepest levels. We have a dark future to look forward to.
More to the point, that same site seems to show that the PSP console itself was #2 on sales last week (?). Not too bad... the DS is still kicking its ass, though:P
The soon-to-be-released(?) manga Detroit Metal City features characters who paint their faces much like KISS... that could be the source of the confusion.
I like the idea, but I think the challenge of finding a suitably euphemistic name for the project is a big drawback to its commercial success.
I mean, Google STD Search Engine probably isn't going to sell too well.
Are you kidding? He's fast approaching the Ideal Slashdot User, who to this point has only been simulated mathematically - he who reads nothing at all.
If they, as everyone else has said, pull it off correctly. I somehow doubt it will be Oblivion-wit-other-peoplez, and that's probably a good thing. Bethesda has earned my respect, so I don't see why not, y'know?

Can anyone here explain how forcing parents to do more parenting is "anti-family"? I can't see it, myself.
So now we can make all the surfaces in a car into speakers? That would certainly make this more effective...

To answer your first question, perhaps sexual selection?
Yeah, it's actually a she, if you had read the summary.
Even if you weren't just an annoying troll, you should at least know that DarkAlex never actually left. He just hid under the pretense of team m33 (or something like that), to see how the community would react to his disappearance.
Do car parts have your social security number on them? No? Bit different, then.
Actually, it falls under ",".
You're worried about Slashdot readers actually reading the linked article? You must be new here.

Have you beaten brain death yet? The 6-12 minute barrier? If not, no funding for you!

I could say the same to you, Mr. Anderson...
Man, that meme is below Slashdot. Here, we use the much more cultivated "-1 Overrated".

No, they're shooting themselves in the feet.... if they shot themselves in the head they'd be Kurt Cobain.

and Slashdot reinvents articles.
