    Worth it?
C++ is the cornerstone of computing today, 90% of all serious software under your cursor is C++. It is robust (type safe & object oriented) and performance horse as well. Any contributions to it's base is worth. You may fiddle around with java, basic, python, lua or whatever but C++ is still the tool of the pros. I am using it on regular basis, with the right libraries it is as easy as "basic" but with the lighting speed of "C". Not to mention portability. I can run my OpenGL based apps on Linux, OS X and Windows natively with no speed penalty of the interpreter of Java alikes.

This one makes me laugh. I can asure you that C++ is not gonna "go". Its like to say "English" is gonna go.

I've "upgraded" my wireless home network to PERMANENT gigabit ethernet recently. So far so good.

    Main reasons for trashing wireless:

    1. bandwidth is limited (my top of the line Wireless-G router ASUS-G500) "top speed" is 2000kB/s and most often much much lower
    2. latency is not even close to the ethernet and with aggregation goes up
    3. annoying antennas at PCs (notebooks are ok)
    4. fear factor that I developed during use of this wireless network,
outages and downtimes, router restarts, wireless card failures, instant vigil about the signal strength etc.
    5. signal fluctuations due to moving people, home antenna shifts and other unpredictable factors that limits the signal

My notebooks are still on wireless, for the web it is just ok though.

"how are you supposed to figure out what kinda tech you need for space flight unless you go and try it?"

You aren't a technician are you? Do you think that any of modern craft is built by "try and error"? All new commercial jets, cars and of course space crafts are designed and precisely tested on computers, before any part is assembled. You can simulate pretty much everything today, even dynamical models like fluid and air motion and all kinds of material interaction.

What we are lacking is a new technology that will jumps us into sub-orbital space and further without such an energy and resource waste. We need a new materials, some kind of a much effective engines, much more efficient fuel etc. and there may be other way to get there more easily and without rockets. Current state of technology like "Shuttle" is not suitable for commercial usage due to expensive "space" technology and materials used. Look on extreme cost of shuttle parts, reliablity and longevity of these.. Look at tons of inefficient fuel used. Look at that laughable "orbital stations" where they most of the time spend by monitoring hundreds of their unreliable parts, they are only surviving there and under extreme conditions. With such a technology all similar projects looks like one big money eating blackhole to me.

I may be wrong, but I feel pretty comfortable with my "short side" view of this whole venture.
