  2. Miniatures on Gen Con 2007 In A Nutshell · · Score: 1

Just an FYI - the 6th picture down (http://images.slashdot.org/articles/07/08/gencon6 .jpg) is of a few of the miniatures from the Privateer Press game Hordes. Hordes is releasing their first expansion, Evolution, and it's part of the larger tabletop/miniature combat world that is Iron Kingdoms/Warmachine/Hordes. For those who are tired of Warhammer, or who want to try something new, I can't recommend these games enough. Last year Hordes won the Origins Award for Miniature Game of the Year. The models are beautifully sculpted, the game is solid and it's loads of fun.

Just brining it up since there was no mention of what the picture was in the article. That's all.

real player is a necessity when you want to listen to audio clips from sites such as http://www.npr.org/, but i don't hear any complaints about that one.

RP is not really that big of an issue provided you babysit the installation and only install what is needed to run rm streams. it's definitely not as big an issue as it was a number of years ago. the most annoying thing i find about it is when websites make you pick a specific media player, because variety IS the spice of life, but i can understand a group's choosing one format to avoid the cost of encoding across multiple formats.

now i just have to figure out if any of the 130 New Critical Objects Ad-Aware found on this computer were caused by Real Networks software so that I can make sure my foot isn't anywhere near my mouth...

by 'banking on' i mean just that - they are putting money into a technology, with the idea that they can get it back later. i might be wrong when i make the following assumption, but i doubt it: warner doesn't want to lose money, and in fact would quite like to make some more of it. so from there it follows that warner would prefer that BR would succeed, so that the money that they have 'banked on' (invested into? would that work better?) the new format would be worth it. similar example: i constantly sign up to support the Republican party, but but that doesn't mean I am banking on it to succeed, right? Right...

Warner is actually banking on Blu-Ray, having officially signed up to support the media. So let's keep going with 'the player is the problem', i guess, if you're dead set on adopting Laserdisc2006 or whatever it is we're bickering about. ;)

The wikipedia article and picture that you are referencing refer to the 'whaleback' feature that was growing in 2004, and that it fell off last July. There are no pictures in the wikipedia article concerning the new fin-like feature. however, they do note that geologists expect this new feature to also break off within a few weeks, and that it is not currently as high as the whaleback feature was before it collapsed.

Okay, so there's this movie coming out in a couple months, and the source material was a big hit on bestseller lists and lots of people got sucked in, but it's been a while, and they need some way to push it all back into the public's eye. it was about conspiracy and there was a lot of scandal in it... let's build up a frivolous lawsuit and start a bunch of buzz!

yeah, dan brown couldn't get me to give him money after reading Angels and Demons and the first 30 pages of this crappy book at the local b&n, and he won't get my $10 at the movie theater either.
