Yeah there are a handful of RMS faithfuls that are upset about it. But at this point Windows 8 is going to happen whether slashdotters get their panties in a bunch or not. So I really just don't get the point of having a big circle jerk over it. It's not news anymore.
Why post this now? GA is 10 days away and it's far too late for some whining on slashdot to make a difference. Why not post this a year ago when the dev preview came out?
Maybe you should look at the roll out history for ICS on the Nexus S. Most variations lagged >6 months behind the release. This isn't an isolated problem, and it's not one you can avoid by getting a Nexus device.
You are advocating that certain users abandon software to "keep up" which is FUCKED.
That's actually the exact opposite of what I said. Learn to read. Here it is in bold for you: If you don't want to keep up that's fine
You do not get to decide on behalf of the world that everyone should dump their system and "move on" or that a 3 year old browser should be ditched.
Never tried to, just pointing out that the rest of the world won't sit around because you have some magic piece of abandon-ware that won't run in a VM. Once again, learn to read. And try not to rage so hard on the internet, it just makes you look stupid.
Yeah about that. Turns out building a platform for freeloaders and pirates isn't such a good idea. This was a year and a half ago. I imagine it wouldn't even be close now.
Your point? It includes everything you need to build an app. It's just missing out on the super shiny enterprisey features like TFS and ALM tools.
and I don't see a free version of windows to install it on either
It came with your PC/laptop. If you built your own, sucks to be you. Guess you would have to put up that whole $100 for an OEM Windows 7 license. Although I suspect that isn't a problem for someone who is actually serious about developing software. You will need target hardware for any of these platforms anyways.
If you WPF application is following MVVM you should be able to take the model and view model parts over to WP7 without much trouble. You will have to significantly rebuild your views though, as you would expect when moving from a desktop to a phone. Same story with C#/XAML metro apps.
I hear there is this thing called Google. You can use it to find things on the internet with just a few carefully selected keywords. You should tryit sometime.
Which is difficult if one is still making payments on the device that no longer meets one's expanded requirements, or if someone else controls the purse-strings for a household or business and fails to appreciate the expanded requirements.
That sounds more like a personal problem than a technical one. Can't help you there.
It's also difficult in a case where price, performance, and size are in a "pick two" relationship.
Pretty well what I'm saying, except mine are price, performance and power usage.
1) Using integrated graphics for gaming if you are concerned about framerates is just dumb.
2) 1/3 the TDP is the difference between a battery with power and one without.
My post was a little misleading. The list is just games that support DirectX 10 and up. Most of them have fallback but some like Battlefield 3 and Dirt: Showdown don't. The real interesting part is the upcoming games section at the bottom, which has 7/8 games as DirectX 10 and up only.
The games with DirectX 10 and 11 support will run better on Windows 7 even if they only use DirectX 9 level features because of the improvements made to the threading model.
Moto Milestone
I had that phone too. We should start a support group or something. Worst tech purchase I ever made.

I know, lets put all our config files into a giant, unmanageable, unnavigable, proprietary format!
Soooo an .ini file?

Let me guess... you only read the headline from the last Haswell article and didn't bother reading the article, or the summary, or the comments.
Vista sold at least 330 million copies. If only my software was so "unsuccessful".

Vista had a bunch of DRM and other features that were friendly to manufacturers but bad for consumers.
You mean all that stuff that is still in there and nobody cares about? The sky isn't falling, go outside and look for yourself.

Because the rest of the world has moved on. If you don't want to keep up that's fine, but don't expect everyone else to cater to you.

Can I write Android and iOS apps in VS? Yes, yes you can.
Clearly the answer to that is yes.
Some body on an incredibly sketchy site has hacked together something to work very poorly with visual studio.
You didn't check the links did you? The second one is from Google for developing Android apps with full integration with Visual Studio.

You're welcome. And yes that includes a commercial license.

That's not the case on Windows Phone 8.

It's rolled into the "other" column at 3.74%.
Are there games requiring windows 7 yet?
There are a few that require vista and up for DirectX support.
