That is what is commonly known as an interpretation of events. Drepper may very well believe his interpretation, but that may not be what actually transpired. Facts establish what happened, not interpretations and opinions. Perhaps you should look beyond Mr Drepper's word before reaching a conclusion.
Claiming that this is an infringement on rights is backwards, you can't make a choice and as a result of that choice, claim that your rights have been infringed.
Go buy a DVD from one region and try to play it in a player from another. You can't without (soon to be illegal) region-free DVD players. Do you honestly believe that you're rights to play your DVD have not been infringed? The very existence of region encoding causes infringement, so it must be eliminated. I presume the FSF are making a similar case for proprietary software.
*ahem*. Sorry for nitpicking, but logic ALWAYS makes sense(otherwise, it wouldn't be logical, right?).;-) They want GNU there because they did a hell of alot of work putting a working system together and ALSO because they want non-techie people who see "GNU/Linux" to say, "What's that GNU thing in front?" That way knowledge of GNU and the FSF spreads and non-techs can learn about the FSF, their philosophy and what they're trying to accomplish.
I'm not really sure he's joking here, despite the smiley...:-)
This is significant how exactly?
This is just a flat-out lie. I know patents aren't popular here... (blah, blah)... etc.
He never said patents were bad. He said (let me emphasize this for you) SOFTWARE PATENTS ARE BAD. I tend to agree simply because every software patent I have ever seen has been completely ridiculous(which doesn't rule out the possibility of there being an acceptable case). Most patents can be applied for on a mathematical or algorithmic basis which might be ok (subject to approval), but all evidence so far indicates that patents on software are stupid and harmful.
This is true for most distributions, but many of us prefer real Unix-flavored (usually derived from BSD) versions of the utilities for good reasons
Then by all means, go on preferring them and using them. Do you want applause? What is GNU doing, forcing their utils down your throat? I don't see how this is supposed to strengthen your argument that I should think the FSF is evil. As a matter of fact, very little in your post accomplishes much to this end. Quite the opposite actually. Try reason next time. It helps when trying to get through to rational people.
This is very interesting to those of us that have long held that despite their protestations to the contrary, the free software movement is indeed inextricably tied to a communist worldview. RMS and others routinely deny this even though it's the only logical conclusion one can reach upon reading and thoughtful consideration of their positions on the issues. The fact that they are more aggressively pursuing subversive tactics should come as a sharp warning to those that are "a bit uncomfortable" with GPL/FSF/GNU.
You were doing alright, but you had to go and blow it with this didn't you. Exactly how did you reach the conclusion that someone must be a communist because they decide to make themselves more presentable in order to be taken more seriously? Right now I'm not interested in the GNU philosophy, or past writings that may be strong evidence. But you just said that cutting his hair and changing his dress to appear more professional is somehow strong evidence in favour of him being a communist. I would absolutely LOVE you to explain the LOGIC behind this. PLEASE.
I'm getting a little tired of the GNU/FSF folks trying to take all the credit for Linux. It's a crock, and they know it.
Roughly, layers of a Linux-based operating system, highest to lowest when going down the list:
Apps **
Misc. Userland tools *
Loaders, Compilers and Libs(ie. glibc) *
Linux Kernel
* most if not all written by FSF/GNU volunteers
** some written by FSF/GNU volunteers
From this breakdown it appears that you have a hell of alot to thank GNU for. So quit being a whiny bitch and write your own compilers, shared library loaders, linkers and C library if you think GNU is so evil. Else, show some gratitude and just say thanks.
Ahh... but there's always a price. In Linux's case, the price is a sacrifice of simplicity and time and you gain flexibility, stability and freedom AND save money. Not a bad price IMHO.:-)
The steel on the back of the blade is also much softer than the steel of the edge, which is why you'll see people in movies deflecting and parrying with the back of the blade.
Actually, the side(flat) of the blade is used to deflect a strike(if it's necessary - most sword Japanese arts emphasize avoiding this if possible). If you think about it, it's very awkward to have to turn your blade around a full 180 degrees just to deflect a strike with the back of your blade. How would you do it whlie keeping your hands in the proper sword holding position? You can't. But if you raise the sword just above and in front of your head and tilt the sword back towards your shoulder placing the blade on the outside you'll notice you have a perfect block for a strike to your head, neck and chest. An incoming strike would just bounce off the side of your blade. If that wasn't enough, you also happen to be in a perfect counter-striking position.
Their approach is quite successful: do a quick-and-dirty job and fix things up later.
C was designed to be as low-level a language as possible while maintaining platform independence. It has nothing to do with "hack jobs". You can do pretty good hack jobs in ANY language, just like you can do superb coding in ANY language... well, except maybe brainfuck.;-)
Why the HELL would somebody want to put the word "end" at the end of a statement, block, line, or whatever the fsck that is, instead of a simple semicolon??
The 'end' is for the 'if' block, not the end of a statement. This practice actually cleans up code a little by not having alot of strange curly braces littered everywhere. You just don't like it cause you're not used to it(and you're used to C, C++, perl, etc.). It's actually pretty good.
Actually, a truly capitalist society would have no taxes at all since everything would be free market based -> government is obsolete.
Oh by the way, in a capitalist society there are no masters, that's why it works. Everyone works for everyone else, and if you don't, you will not make money and you will die. The CEO has to produce what people are willing to buy, otherwise his company will go down, and he will be out of work, just like the burger flipper has to be polite and serve his customers or he too will be out of work. Capitalism is Darwinism: only the strong thrive(and the weak sometimes die out). If that's not freedom, I don't know what is.

This probably springs from the beautifully designed file system layout--all the OS files are in their area, and all the files you work with from day to day are in yours.
I don't see how that's "beautifully designed" to me. Honestly, doing it any OTHER way seems really dumb.
Mozilla is more stable than Konqueror. I've been using KDE since the 1.x days and I've used every release between then and now. Right now I'm running KDE 2.2Beta and Mozilla 0.9.1, and I assure you Mozilla is MUCH more stable than Konqueror EVER was. I have never been able to browse in Konqueror for more than 1 hour without it crashing. When I tried Mozilla 0.9.1, I browsed non-stop for 4-5 hours without a single crash on sites that send Konqueror crying to it's metaphorical momma in 10 minutes or less(and which have sometimes even crashed my whole system with memory leaks which exhausted the VM). Needless to say, I was astounded, titillated and very impressed. The only legitimate complaints that I have experienced with Mozilla are window focus issues, startup speed, and a minor rendering issues. Compared to the problems with Konqueror, that's nothing.
Some of these text editors are projects people start to learn how to program. Do you expect newbies to start programming Mozilla or KDE? Be a little realistic please.
So if they left their husbands, their husbands would no longer be interested in 19 year old girls? I doubt it.
That's irrelevant. The point is the wife can now get on with her life without being beholden to a cheating husband. If she stays, she is allowing the abuse to continue.
And from personal observation, I doubt that the threat of having a wife leave is enough to get a guy to stop going after other women.
Perhaps, perhaps not. Fortunately, this point is irrelevant too. In the end, the fact is that the women are also at fault if they stick around when their husband has cheated on them. They are essentially saying that this is acceptable behaviour and without consequences(except hurt feelings).

Darwin uses I/O Kit. I assume this is quite different from what Linux uses.
:-)
VERY different.
Surely one wouldn't expect Apple, who specialized in making PCs, to be creating new serial interfaces like Firewire from scratch.
*ahem*, they did create FireWire from scratch.
Mach a right choice? As much as I love macs, Mach is always a terrible choice for a kernel.

That does sound better, but as someone else pointed out, the title would then become:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
That sounds dumb.
Originally, I hated KDE because of the non GPL issue. Now that is resolved. Next I hated it because it lacked nice eye candy.
I'm sorry, but why is it necessary to hate it at all? "I don't use it" would suffice, no?
