Eh, yeah, well it is pretty hard to nail it down with this disorder. If I knew exactly what caused it, and how it functioned, I would get an award or something. This is the most peculiar disorder ever.
The DSM-IV-TR labels it as "Antisocial Personality Disorder" and explains that it is not a "psychopath."
I thought "psychopath" ment that the mind itself causes damages rather than just to be sick itself. To me, "psychopath" and "ASPD" discribe it well. It is disorder, it's destructive, it is sick, and those with this disorder do use socializing in a destructive manner, such as manipulation or defrauding.
The APA manual makes it clear not to use biased language. The DSM-IV-TR is clear to explain that it's properly ASPD and thus "Psychopath" is incorrect.
Proper terminology doesn't use biased language like "afflicted with" or refers to a person by the disease, "psychosexuals". "Antisocials" is another one, and "One afflicted with ASPD" is another unscholarly wording.
Those are some excellent questions. I only wish I knew more to answer them completely. Those brain patterns wouldn't be connected with lying, but would be worth studying anyways. I don't know what happened to the "Russian kid." He's not necesarily Russian. He just played Russian Roulette, a game of guns. It was a scholarly article so they only talk about one thing. It's thesis oriented.
I don't know much about lying but I have researched Antisocial Personality Disorer. This disorder relates in that a lot of the most henious crimes were commit by people with this disorder. Also, my research has led me to believe that this disorder is strongly coorelated to the prefrontal cortex. This may be important to the topic since people with this disorder account for a large percentage of crimes, are expert liars, and fill up our prisons (I mean American prisons, for other countries, I don't know). This brain damage just may interfer with the accuracy of this lie-detection.
Antisocial Personality Disorder is a disorder which is characterized by a disregard for the rights and feelings of others. It was formally known as "Dysocial Personality Disorder," "Sociopathy," and "Psychopathy." A person with this disorder is often called, a "Psychopath." This however is not the proper term because it's meaning has been changed, and it's actually biased language; it is a label, although "Antisocial Personality Disorder" (ASPD) is a label in itself. It's just considered unethical to call someone a name.
ASPD is named this way because it gives emphasis on the social part of the disorder. However, it is misleading. Most people understand that "antisocial" means to be socially distant, sulking, or whatever. What it really means is "socially distructive." It is very true that those with ASPD disrupt the lives of those around them. Those with ASPD are often highly charming.
Characteristics of ASPD include callious, charming, grandious (huge ego), high sense of entitlement, impulsiveness, unreasonable life goals or failure to plan ahead, and others. Check out a wiki on this disorder.
In my research, I've found studies that demonstrate a lack of activity in the prefrontal cortex of the brains of those with ASPD. One study shows 11% less prefrontal grey matter in the brains of those with the disorder compared to control groups (sorry I couldn't link the full text).
The prefrontal cortex is at the front of the brain and is responsible for higher thinking.
Another study is of a boy who was playing Russian Roulette. The boy got the bullet. He was said to have a future diagnosis of ASPD (he was too young for the diagnosis at the time). The surgery removed parts of his prefrontal cortex. No change in his personality, or minimal change, was reported by those who knew him.
Studies on rats show the importance of the prefrontal cortex in the characteristics of ASPD above. Rats with legions cut into their brains tended to be more impulsive. Other studies show a lack of self control, that is, inhibition of an action in a go/no-go task, was weaker in patients with ASPD. (I couldn't find these studies on the Internet, but they may be found in scholarly journels, however, it's been time since I've done this research, and I don't feel like getting up to search them) This shows a stronger link to the prefrontal cortex and these characteristics stated above.
This is important to know since a lot of these people will find themselves charged with crimes. Ted Bundy had this disorder, and so did most serial killers (I do not know if all of them had the disorder). When these people are assessed using the fMRI scan to see if they know more than they should, there might be a problem with their damaged prefrontal cortex. That is, this brain damage can interfer with lie-detection.
Just so you know, I've been educated by experienced psychologists. If what I say is wrong, then to hell with all of their reputations and experience.
It is true that in cultures where this behavior is considered normal that victims suffer a less. It's also true that in other cultures they mutilate genitals. There is no ignoring the fact that the child was taken advantaged of because the adult was superior in reasoning. There's also the simple nervous system responses. The child doesn't know about what sex is and about sexual desire. Sexual behavior with a child violates the child.
Anyways, a class in "parapsychology" isn't definitive either. Just because you've seen a counter argument doesn't mean that children aren't actually hurt.
Other counter arguments: "We are sexually liberating the children." and "I just couldn't help myself."
There's also the evolutionist perspective. Which you'd be familiar knowing so much about psychology. There is no advantage to having any kind of sex with children. They cannot reproduce. If a girl manages to get pregnant, she will have sever problems.
Further, the vagina of a young girl is very delicate. Sex with a young girl damages her vagina very easily. This is clear evidence that sex with children is wrong and damaging. If it was ment to be, then it wouldn't hurt. It is not a cultural phenomenom.
MANY experts agree totally. I've been educated in college about psychology and human sexuality. This does a lot of damage.
When most children who are abused end up with lots of problems such as substance abuse and suicide, much greater than average, even a "casual correlation" is significant. Now what if you were sexually abused?
All children involved in pornography are abused. It is the taking of sexually explicit photos of children that is abusive. Adults, who would be mentally fit enough to produce pictures, are mentally superior to the children. The adults are taking advantage of the children.
After the photos have been produced, they must disapear. The reason for this is that it encourages more child abuse. Pedophiles might get the idea that it is Ok. It however is not. A similar phenomena occurs on the Internet which worries social scientists. Pedophiles can create forums and talk about pedophilia in total anomity. They can encourage eachother and pass tips on how to engage in behavior and get away with it. They can also support eachother and give to the idea that this is ok. It's not because it damages children so easily, and by so much.
It is proper the remind a pedophile that this behavior is wrong, does damage the children, and is actually unhealthy and needs to be treated, but one should not shame the pedophile. Shame causes the pedophile (as with fetishes too) to hide their behavior, and comfort themselves...with the behavior.
Apparently, two states sued Best Buy on the grounds of false advertizing. I present a quote from the BBC:
In May 2005, the Attorney General of Wisconsin filed a lawsuit against Best Buy Company. The lawsuit alleges that Best Buy engaged in a pattern of unfair and deceptive acts and practices including: Representations related to promised rebates, extended service plans, supplement magazine subscriptions, the return and exchange policies and restocking fees, gift cards and "Reward Zone Points". The matter is currently pending. Consumers can read the formal complaint at: www.doj.state.wi.us
Consider checking out the BBC before you consider purchases, and be sure the file a complaint if you get screwed.
Good point, I think that looking at the cork proves that the label hasn't been switched. The cork has stuff written on it so you know what bottle went with it.
I've read a book by Queer Eye and they talk about the wine selection ritual. When the waitor/waitress hands you the cork, you don't smell the goddamned thing. This goes with what you said. Adding to this, you are supposed to make sure this *is* what you ordered and not some cheap wine to rip you off. You make sure the cork went with the bottle, or something to that effect. You also sample the wine to make sure it's ok, and not a leaky bottle, and thus smells moldy. There is a distrust of the waiter/waitress.
For a good statistical analysis, at least 1064 samples selected at total random should be measured. This will provide 95% chance that the real average falls within a reasonable margin of error of the calculated average. The study gives none of this information. The data could be the result of total chance. This could appear with as little oas 20 samples. This data is pretty much useless.
Nut uh, the Earth is flat. I can prove it. In America, things fall towards the ground. In Austrillia things still fall towards the ground. In China, things still fall towards the ground. How do you explain this if the Earth is round? Huh?
I've thought about this from time to time. I share because I don't have money, which is only a temporary excuse because I'm cheap. However, I wonder if artists might make a living by giving out their music for totally free, and permitting file-sharing.
It appears to me that most companies that market to teenagers actually attempt to market culture. It seems to me that what teenagers want more than anything is culture. That explains MTV and all the weird and eccentrical behaviors and speech from teenagers. Teenagers get into music and style. This is culture to them. They fit in. That is, they are properly encultured. Now they are acceptable by their peers.
Now a company attempts to market to teenagers. If the company succeeds, their product becames culture so that all teenagers who wish to be "in" must have that product. The company makes a lot of money.
The solution to all this file-sharing delima that I might propose is that artists give away their music for free and then contract with companies that sell clothing and other goods. These companies would make shirts with their artists' names on it. The artists could do all the other things like concerts like they always have and do now.
People would be allowed to freely distribute the music or you could buy the CD if you really want to from the store still. It's just that you could download the music from the website or whatever.
The money is made in the tangible goods. Tangible goods always wear out so there's always a demand.
When the words, "you and I," are the subject, or in the subject, of a sentence, then you must use "you and I." If they are the object of a preposition, or a part of the object of the preposition, then you must use, "you and me."
You have frequently put, "you and I" as the object of prepositions. This is not good grammar. "...like you or I..." is the subject of a preposition. It must be, "...like you or me."
Break this line up into to individual sentences and you'll see why: "...like you..." and, "...like I...". See? the first one is OK, but the second one is not correct. It should be, "...like me...".
What are worse are the 'doze users out there who think 'doze is better than Macs. I've seen them. They say really stupid stuff like, "Windows only crashes if you're stupid." Which is not true. I've gone out of my way just to have my stupid 'doze box crash. I've done the foolish gig of plugging my freshly installed XP PC into the 'net just to see the machine crumble into dust.
Macs plug right into the 'net with out a problem. They do have thier silly eccentricities from time to time but what you have to go through is *nothing* compared the the BS you go through on a 'doze. You have to run up to 5 types of anti-spyware if you want a truely clean box and an anti-virus.
Then you have to listen to some ingorant fucktard say something about how Windows is better than Mac.
The RIAA will continue to exist and be a pain in the neck.
Microsoft will release another operating system.
Linus Torvalds will continue to be writing for the Linux kernel.
MacIntosh will sell computers with a nice GUI.
In the next week, you will talk to someone named Bob, Joe, Jane, Jack, Chris, Sam, or some name beginning with a 'J' or a female who's name ends in a pronounced vowel.
IT proffesionals will continued to be ignored and low quality products will flourish in the market.
Dude, I both doubt the validity of quantum theory and consider it valid, seriously. It's such a weird subject. Entanglement is just bazzar. It shouldn't be, for all I know, but it does. There is proof, but the proof conflicts with what is already known. It's just, Gah!! I'm in a two-state super-position on the subject. (sorry, pun intended)

Well, I've never thought about that.
There's a reason why I didn't get into Harvard, buddy. :P
Er, excuse me. Everywhere in this previous post that I said "BBC" I actually ment "BBB." Silly me. :P
If this guy is a troll, I fell for it agian. >:(

*grits teeth*That's great and all, but the important issue is, does the new satalite run Linux?
Also, consider this: America created Windows, Europe created Linux.
The deal with the EU is not, "Anything you can do we can do better," but it's, "Well, yeah we can do better, but by how many *times* better."
