No, you're right. But these hosting companies are making the mistake of assuming that since they know their customers, anybody who calls/e-mails in must automatically be considered authorized to make account changes and doesn't need to be challenged. It's a dangerous practice, and one that I personally don't engage in where I work. (I'm the primary webhosting support contact for a local ISP.)
Exactly. He says he got lost at "continuum" while reading the the article on fluid mechanics - but if he hadn't been too engaged in keeping his bitchfest rolling, he would have seen that continuum mechanics was linked and he could have read up on that as well.
I can't be the only person whose reaction to the article is to google 'David Mullins', and discover that it's a reasonably common name, shared by the professor of housing policy at Birmingham University, the director of academic administration at Warwick, a 1991 Stanford math grad student, a London-based artist, and the ex-vice-chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
If they found out via Google that somebody named David Mullins was fired from several jobs, they can easily go back to the guy's initial job application and/or resume and compare the employment history to what they came up with. If it matches not once but multiple times, then odds are strong that you've got the same guy.
Either way it's a moot point since they had already uncovered so many instances of misconduct; getting extra dirt on him which he may have omitted from his job application might have just been icing on the cake.
If things are going to blow up, you might as well have it all happen on one day of the week/month/whatever - as every time somebody decides to patch something.
A similar incident happened to the buyer of a cell phone at a Reno Best Buy store, the case says. Microsoft withdrew monthly MSN payments from her debit card account for 17 months without her knowledge or permission, the allegations say.
How do you not know that you're missing $20 every month for a year and a half? Seriously, look at your bank statements every now and then.
People do that to make their tech support issue seem like a bigger deal than it really is. I've heard people say they haven't been able to use their computer for weeks when the only thing that was wrong was the printer cartridge was dry.
I used this to set up 8 workstations (virtual art galleries, actually) out of two machines for a tattoo shop across town. I've followed some of the resources already linked on this topic and was never able to get such a setup working, but this software did it just fine. All you need are some dual-head video cards and USB hubs.
From the competition standpoint... let's all not forget that the Sega Dreamcast was killed shortly after the PS2 came out, then it wasn't until almost a year later when new competition finally hit the market. Not to mention the relative worth of DVD capabilities vs. Blu-Ray. All the PS2 had to do was be in the right place at the right time, which it was. With real competition and a movie format that hasn't even established itself as the official successor to the DVD, the PS3 doesn't have the same luxuries the PS2 did.
I won't be re-buying any of my already bought DVDs (about 220). They are all classics, and I'm in the process of converting them all to Xvid files so I can watch them on-demand.
How does converting your purchased DVDs to XVID make them any more "on-demand" than just watching the DVDs themselves?
Busch, Best Buy's spokeswoman, said the company intends to vigorously defend itself in court.
"The future of our company depends on our ability to build trusted relationships with our customers," Busch said.
Would that be with or without an extended warranty?
I read the thread where he melted down; saw that coming a mile away.

No shit. The second your product gets into a consumer's home, its "unhackable" status vanishes.

Just because "baking brownies" is a euphemism for "taking a shit" doesn't mean it's going to smell any better.

Just you wait!

Two thousand and five.
You are attempting to add a 28 minute drum solo to this song. Cancel or allow?
Absolutely.

Global stuff. You know. Like... increasing productivity through outside-the-box thinking and a fundamental paradigm shift.

You spelled princesses wrong!
You're right about the video cards, that's just what we did because we didn't have enough PCI slots to go around. :)

... but does it run Linux?
+1, informative

I suppose scheduling the deposition for after 3pm is probably out of the question.
