I think this is either a troll or the this guy is confusing.ty files with.tivo files. There are lots of resources for splitting.ty files for both the mac and Linux but as far as I know (and I've looked) there are none for.tivo files.
Complain loudly and complain often. Tivo is not on the most stable ground that they can afford to piss off their user base. As soon as this starts happening on my machines i will be calling them threatening to cancel my subscription.
I'm due to update my home linux server from RedHat 9 and have been debating whether I should put core 4 on it when it comes out or RHEL 4. This machine does file serving, web serving, runs mysql for various small databases, etc.
Is there any compelling reason to use one or the other for this type of machine?
I have one of these that I got for about $80. It's not really designed for mobile use but it gives a decent picture and is a stand alone web enabled device that does still images and streaming. It works both wireless (802.11b) and wired via ethernet. I like it and the price was right. I just wish they would make an outdoor version.
For those of you with Macs, check out Quicksilver. I think this is the future of the command line, at least for most users. Quicksilver basically lets you type command lines from the UI. What you do is type Command-space and then a series of characters that narrows a seach of your machine. You can lauch programs, open files with the appropriate application, visit URLs and pretty much anything else via plugins. It doesn't completely replace the command line but it comes close.
I don't really know much about spyware as I don't use windows but my understanding is that much of the legit programs collect personal information for marketing purposes. These programs must call home to upload what they collect. Why hasn't anyone written spyware spoofing software that uploads lots of invalid or better yet, simply incorrect data.
If it's an open source project their improvements are fair game, and it's in the best interests of both branches to share and use each others improvements on the common core parts of the software.
While I'm sure that dicking with PVR owners is a side effect that the networks like. I beleive that the realy reason for this is to squeeze yet another minute of commercials into popular shows. Unfortunatly for the networks this tactic will have the effect of driving more people to the Internet to download their shows totally free of commercials.
I upgraded from Core 2 on the weekend and in a word, yes. It's very polished, all of my complaints with Core 2 seem to have been fixed, specifically burning CDs. It even recognized my firewire DVD burner and was able to burn a data dvd on the first try. The only nit so far is that the NVidia drivers (downloaded from NVidia) don't work. Appearently there is a work around for this and I am sure that it will be corrected soon.
Ok, so the asshole is gone, who's next? The bumbler, the bitch or the flunky. I'm pretty sure the moron and the crook are going to stay another 4 years.
This has already been done to some extent in Quicksilver.

It's an app that indexes parts of your file system and supports plugins to to index application data. The best part is that it is keyboard based. For example. type command-space "slash" enter and it fires off Safari opening/.
I might be having firewall problems, itunes, quicktime and mplayer all quit immediataly after accessing the stream. vlc complains about not being able to connect at all.
Only a monopoly has the clout to force something that the consumer does not want (DRM) down their throats. Apple's can only try to entice the consumer with high quality products, variety, good service. They don't have a chance.

Don't worry, I'm sure Bush will outlaw free speach soon enough.

Isn't it great that that dictatorship spent itself into bankruptcy?
.4 trillion dollar deficit and growing. Which country are you talking about?
Hmm, George W Bush, a
That associating your product with a feeling of annoyance in the consumer does not generate more revenue, it generates less.
The NVidia problem is discussed here with a work around. Hopefully the new version mentioned above will solve it.

I'm not sure how Apple will improve on this.
It's better to let Americans die in Iraq for no good reason, than let them lose thier jobs to save the environment. What an Asshole.

Wierd though curl seems to get it fine.
I complained to them the day they switched (as i always do when someone picks a proprietary M$ format) but i didn't expect anything would come of it.
Does anyone know of a good ogg client for OS X?
Absolutely :)
That kind of money could be better used to finance developement.
Microsoft can afford a purify license.
While this is a cool site, it's not like they are writing these articles.
