If we knew that it was going to hit on the next pass, the logical thing would be to blast it this time after it clears the earth. A small change in it orbit at this point should translate into a large one by the time it comes around again.
So that they can price their O/S based on the speed of hardware running it. I used run into vendors trying to do this back in my network management days. I remember asking one of them. "You want me to pay more for your software because I paid more for the hardware I run it on?" and he said "Sure, you will get more use out of our software.". I was still laughing at him as I shoved him out the door.
The best thing that could happen to Sun is for IBM to buy them. It would IBM give them access to Java, they could merge Solaris, AIX and Linux, and Sun hardware would probably sell better than the equivalents in the IBM line.
This is esentially the same thing as yesterdays story. It seems that M$ is starting to focus on a strategy, one which should be familiar to most people: Use the monopoly under the guise of improving security/fighting piracy to crush the competition.
No it means that other OS's will be locked out of mounting and playing any popular media. This has been M$'s driving goal for a long time. The bottom line will be that you will need a device that contains Microsoft code to mount and play any format that participates in the DRM system. This means all media players and most computers. Microsoft will not license the technology to Linux under the excuse that it is an insecure platform. This will help them lock down both the desktop and embedded markets.
Well, yes but blocking all POSTs would pretty much render your internet access useless. Limiting the size might work to some extent but what size would be correct, and it would be easy to circumvent. And finally yes you can log them, but since the POST was through https you won't really know what you are logging, plus logging is only likely to be useful after the fact to prove that something happened. It's pretty hard to detect a tree in the forest.
That's great and I agree with you but you've forgotten the X has a feature the already makes it superior to all other windowing systems. This feature is that you can give focus to window that is not on the top of the stacking order. This allows you to pull the window that you want to see in front of the window that you are typing into. This and the ability to lower windows are something that i really miss on the Mac.
I actually tried to set up SPF for my site this morning after reading another/. article. Turns out my DNS provider does not support TXT records and gave no indication of a willingness to do so. If it turns out that SPF and some other combination of technologies will prevent me from getting spam as well as prevent my email adress from being spoofed as the From: address on spam sent to others, i guess register.com is about to lose a customer.
If they made a smaller version with a touch screen that detaches from the stand, they would have a tablet. Hopefully this is a direction they will explore in subsequent revs.
If they opened up the format sure they will have to deal with competion but by having more devices that play it will increase demand for ITMS. By having other stores selling FairPlay files it will increase demand for the ipod. Seems like a win win situation. Surely they can compete on both the quality of the hardware and the store.
This happend to me for a couple of months this winter. I figured my disk was going bad but it has completely corrected itself. I wonder if somehow i got an early release of the software and then got back reved.
I followed the directions to the letter but when it says "Your WDS is now being configured..." it fails with "Base station error". Is there anymore info floating around out there on how to do this?
Since they felt that lindows infringed on windows, they are now only one letter away from having linux infringe on lindows, in the same way. All they need to do now is buy a vowel and then Linus is in big trouble.
I wonder how good these things would be as a camera platform? Never mind the obvious big brother uses but it might do wonders for news service and traffic monitoring.
Warning, it seems to be designed more for high volume use than individual sites. I've fed dspam almost 3000 spams and it is still only catching 80%, does seem to be getting better though.
I'm off to Philadelphia next month for the first time. Can anyone from the area suggest good spots to jack in as i'm sure I will need my /. fix.

If you want to steal a file this is no more difficult than doing an https POST to a web server. Pretty hard to block and pretty hard to detect.

If i understand them correctly i believe that Gentoo and Lin(spire|dows) are pushing the same sort of model.
That now hardware is fast enough to run it.

Yes! Everything else is just redundant.

It will be the size of a postage stamp and hold one song.
Mine either but i'm pretty sure that the North Pole is not in Scandinavia.
I always thought Santa was from Canada.
