To anyone that still believes all that "Protect and Serve" shit, tasers are primarily and overwhelmingly used by LEOs as punishment. They are not used to protect anyone. If you do not do exactly as the officer says, no matter how unfair it may seem, you will be tasered. It is immediate punishment administered without judicial review. Plus, it relieves a lot of frustration for the cop.
So let's all stop pretending now that use of a taser is anything legal or moral, it's a circumvention of judicial review, denial of individual rights and a travesty of justice. Tasers should be outlawed or their use outside of life threatening situations should be cause for immediate dismissal of the offending officer. Any other course of action is merely inviting a Judge Dredd type of future.
May be the lesson here is that we shouldn't be asking national security agencies to investigate copyright claims at all in the first place. Copyright claims should be handled as the civil matters they are. There is absolutely no just reason that any government agency should be involved in investigating these civil matters amongst private entities.
Go ahead, just say no to college, that's fine by me. Degreed people like myself need ambitious young people like you to work for us and do all the shit we don't feel like doing.
I don't care what they name after him. His legacy will be the thermonuclear war dragging through the courts all over the world now that was started at his behest.
It's not about Assange. It's about human rights, yours, mine, anyone's. The question is: Is it ok for a government to pursue and prosecute a foreign national, a person, any person for speaking or repeating the truth simply because those truths are embarrassing to the government.
You should care about the rights of Assange only for as long as you care about your own.
This Dimon fellow is the best used car salesman I've seen for a while.
He kinda alludes to the fact that they will use this fantastic new data center for customer service. My guess is they will probably use it to scam more money from people with some devilish plot like HFT.
A fine only applies if someone complains, you get caught, are judged and proven guilty after a preponderance of the evidence and you have exhausted all of your appeals. That could be years, decades even.
How about we require every take-down request be accompanied by a $500.00 bond in order to be valid. Then we might see fewer automated take-down notices.
Leaving the timely refund of said bond in the hands of our efficient and competent government employees would just be be for the giggles.
Agreed. I get the same feeling every time I see a bunch of kids taking turns using a wooden stick to swat at a small leather sphere. Really, don't these kids have anything better to do with their time?
Compared to the real thing, this is a wee bit slow. But of course I threw out all my punch cards years ago. They warped so bad in about 12 months time that they would jam the reader.
Quick way to win friends, jam the reader with about 15 people behind you.

if they are willing to break the law "to get a bad guy" then I have to wonder why we even bother with courts and due process at all.
Allow me to introduce you to at least 95% of our beloved law enforcement personnel.

How can it be rectified?
You're supposed to cultivate it.
That's a nasty thing to say about Earthlink.
While I'll not question the sincerity or truthfulness of the original post as others have beat me to that, I will question equating Alibaba to Amazon.
I consider Alibaba a slightly inferior peer to EBay which puts it way, way lower than Amazon in my book.
Dude, this is /.
If you acknowledge their rights, they'll all just resign from Starfleet.
Is this /. or Fark?
Ballmer wants to be remembered for doing something no one else at MS could do - make Bob look good.

I was scratching my head trying to figure out the intended meaning of that sentence. Thank you for the clarification.
The fact remains that he did die conveniently in a plane crash

Seems like that from the inside too.
Just wait until they figure out how much they could make by taxing legalized pot.
Please so not confuse copyrights with patents.
We convince them that the act of voting is a scientific endeavour. They'll never do it again.
He's a little over-weight if you ask me. Maybe he should go to the gym instead of imitating Barbara Streisand.
