When traveling to California last year, that was one thing that I really didn't like - how prices are quoted exclusive of tax.
In Australia, the price quoted has to be the price that is paid by the consumer - the airline industry recently got into trouble for not doing this i.e advertising cheap fares exclusive of the fuel levy, tax and other surcharges.
In addition to this, the amount of tax that was charge very often ends up on the receipt so businesses can use it to calculate their GST credits etc
You are over simplifying things. Western provinces can't survive without the East, why do you think so many people from the West travel to the East for work. If they become separate and independent, say goodbye to an open border.
As for Taiwan, they're just as bad as the PRC. Taiwan asserts ownership over all of mainland China (actually this view varies depending on which political party gets elected). Taiwan with its democracy is more corrupt than the CCP, just look at Chen Shui-bian. He would be under house arrest or in front of a firing squad if he pulled that shit in the PRC. The Western media didn't make a big deal out of his affairs because he is an ally.
Giving in to Taiwan would be like having let the Southern States form their own country. Furthermore, if your into "human rights" look at how Taiwans native tribes were treated by the Taiwanese Hans who took over.
If you have never lived in China, you don't know anything about the situation and should not comment.
Well I live in Australia, and these people (protesters) have been loud, violent and disruptive at the Chinese consulates in Sydney and Melbourne. They have been damaging cars, climbing walls and resisting arrest. I live in an apartment 3 blocks away from the Chinese Consulate in Sydney. If they act this way in Australia, god only knows how they act in Tibet. I have no problem with them migrating to Australia, I do have a problem with them brining their 'battles' here.
It is undisputed that they've been setting fire to and looting Chinese businesses and targeting people of Han ethnicity, how would you feel if people of Japan sick of the US military presence did the same to American's and American business?
Most of these other chips are general purpose and used in a wide range of commercial applications. The idea in investing in the additional infrastructure to produce components locally will mean more foreign debt for US, increased taxes and would probably fail in the long run since licensing costs of all the various chips out there used in defence/aerospace would kill you if your only serving the military (commercial organisations wont buy if they can source it cheaper elsewhere).
Anyway, look at it this way, if there are security implications, the Government will dedicate resources to improving security and privacy which in turn may inhibit their ability to spy on citizens.
When they do set up their own highspeed internal networks or even talk of doing so, slashdotters and the US gvt say omg restriction form the world wide web. A quick google shows this: "China's bid to divide the Internet" where the author slams china's development of a high speed internal network and participation in protocol design.
It is so obviously wrong to compare one country's exceptional behavior to another's systematic behavior, that you must be either a liar or a fool.
Seemingly what you call exceptional is now happening on a systematic basis.
Just remember Tiananmen was several decades ago, it would probably be mentioned more in China had it not been beaten up by the West as some crusade to bring democracy to China which it was not (rather, concerned workers worried about the economic changes that have lead to China becoming the economic heavyweight we know today), secondly, the same thing would have happened anywhere else in the world, the protest went for over a week, they blocked access to the city with buses and were generally distruptive.
On my dad's dinky little small business network with one segment and 10 machines, I saw no less than 300 daily attempts to root the gateway via SSH coming from North Korean and Chinese IP addresses.
Thats a little hard to believe given most North Korean's dont have computers let alone internet access. If they really are attacks from North Korea, your dad must be involved in more than a "dinky little small business".
The US is just as bad - look at the Australia/US free trade agreement regarding extending patent terms and its affect on generic medicines.
Don't play the human rights card because every nation has abuses eg
Australia's stolen generation and lack of a national apology
US rendition program
Guantanamo Bay
Abu Graib
What makes you think democracy is so great? The US is the best examples of its failures. At least in China when an official is caught taking bribes/etc he/she is placed under house arrest... too bad that type of thing doesnt happen with pork barreling in the US.
The US has been screwing the world for years, it's about time we had a new superpower to keep the US under thumb.
Things like censorship, product safety, military issues, global warming contributions, and anything that seems enough of a problem to become a law in western countries should be forced upon the Chinese government.
Half of these things the US is guilty of:
Censorship - Look at the things your government does eg censorship of games, trying to prevent flag burning, monitoring citizens/bloggers etc
Product safety - Right... American companies have never tried to skimp on safety to save a dollar, SUV's anyone? Thats rich coming from the land of lawsuits.
Military issues - Whose government is an international joke for the wars it starts?
Global warming - The bulk of this has come from Western countries, why do you blame China? Maybe you should trade in your SUV for a bike, it may also solve America's obesity problem.
Forcing their government what to do - They are a soverign nation, not the 51st State of the USA
and most of that by chinese prison labor working under the most deplorable conditions
Do you have any figures to verify this, i.e what percentage of Chinese exports come from these supposed "prison camps"? Having been to Shenzhen I find your comments hard to belive.
The FTA between the US and Australia was supposed to bring Australian copyright law in line with US. The SMH would have been threatened with the equivalent law
Before I started uni, I worked there as crew - promoted to manager (pay increase was only like $2ph - just more hours), then decided had enough of this and quit. All in the space of 6 months
This is because US Telco carriers charge firstly to connect to US networks and secondly for data transmitted in both directions
I recall reading about one African country (I don't think it was South Africa) which had it's internet completly disconnected due to failure to pay access charges
South Africa's reasons (and I suspect some of the other poorer countries on the list) is purly financial.

www.anti-cnn.com also is an example.
If you put in place a "code of conduct" are you not yourselves
'setting the standard on control of the Internet'
Said the American driving a Hummer through the streets of New Orleans. To give the world McDonalds and Coca-Cola.
Go to a bar (in the US) and talk about killing the Chinese president. See what happens when people overhear part of your conversation.

Give the Chinese a break
The NSA fabs its own processors at Fort Meade.

Bullshit - foreign products are available in China, its just that they're priced more.
Fine you can have the net, but by your logic, world wide web design and content should be approved by Switzerland since it was invented there.
Have fun with your bbs

Give the guys a break.
because the US is such a leader in the field of human rights...

I think I will get married, just so that I can get a divorce ... and have an excuse to spend 150 thou on a car.
Thats if the divorce doesnt cost you all your money.
Before I started uni, I worked there as crew - promoted to manager (pay increase was only like $2ph - just more hours), then decided had enough of this and quit. All in the space of 6 months
I'm about ready to sell the house and use that money to pay off all my bills, then get a small apartment and flip hamburgers.
Just don't work for mcdonalds, all they give you is a shitty pen with a mcdonald land character on it.... a different one each year!
If none of the antannae deployed then how can they destroy it?
On the other hand, it could make great target...

I agree, I bet the student who submitted thie original e-mail the sotry is based on has never paid a homless man 20,000 yen
If you want it earlier, get in line before everyone else and be prepared to push and shove, it's that simple.
It's the PS3 launch for fucks sake, what on earth did he expect? This happens with every major playstation release.
