That being said, its not windows faults that is keeping you employed, its bad management decisions. I agree with you Outlook should really not be used unless there is a /real/ good reason (Exchange) But as for not having the latest virus updates? Get Norton Corporate Edition, a quick clickety click, and everyone in my department (250+ workstations, 8 servers, a mix of 98/2K/NT4/XP/2003), as for your statement of viruses being out before the updates, they are, but I have yet to see Norton have more then a 12 hour turnaround time for updates if its anything more then a couple of hits. As for outlook multiplying the problem, make it a policy that no one use auto preview. We did it after nimda and it took a month or so of Facist checking, but everyone has stopped using it. And, most of the autopreview bugs have had patches release by microsoft, so by telling me that autopreview causes problems, you are also informing me that you are woefully behind on your patches.

No, it isn't. But 9 times out of 10 (if properly maintained), it will save your ass.
We are behind a firewall, that doesn't sales men and execs from bringing in their infected laptops.

Why aren't you running AV on these laptops? I'm willing to look beyond keeping laptops 100% up to date on patches because some people refuse to bring them in, but at my jopb, the 3rd friday every month, we have all our users with laptops brought in so we can patch them, AV updates are pushed over to them when they connect to the VPN. We also can call an emergency and have them haul in their laptop if there is a major patch. (We did this on MS03-026) Didn't bring your laptop? Sorry, no VPN

It seems that your suffering from bad management, please keep that in mind before crying "Microsoft Sucks!" and blaming most of your problems on "half rate solutions like windows xp".

Most profs with tenure I've run into look at you as a name and number and grade.

Want to complain about that last test? Want to try and change your grade because your cat died the night of your midterm? Go stuff it, because he ain't budging, after all, what can you do? He has tenure!

On the flip side I have a instructor who hates profs with tenure and has specifically avoided getting on the tenure track because he hates the idea of the system. And you know what? He is the most understanding and friendly instructor I've had during my college career. He memorized my name within two sessions of my first class with him, and constantly has his door open for questions, gassbagging, scuttlebutt, whatever. IMHO, we(US college-types) need more professors like that.

So while tenure is a good idea, in my school its abused way too much. Also, the post tenure review board is a OBN and I have never heard of someone getting let go from it.

Their behavior towards women is much like that of a dog; they lust after them, publicly voicing their desire, and if a woman makes herself know to them on the web, they are surrounded by them like puppies taking turns on a mother's teat.

I must say, this is true for most of the male population. Go into any college male's dorm and you will see some picture of Heidi Klum, or somebody else there.

In the workplace they demand casual dress. They demand completely relaxed environments, with full control over operating systems, hardware (remind me why a sysadmin needs a GeForce?), software - and they don't see the hypocrisy when whinging about a "mere user" trying to do something their way rather than "the right way".

Yes, I whine when users do something the wrong way, mainly because 'the right way' exists for a reason. Its the same way as somebody cruising down the breakdown lane or cutting you off on the highway, that is not the right way. It is a detriment for the other users.
