I watched german bukkake films, hardcore porn and violence from I was 14+, haven't had any negative effect on me. Anyway now im off to find me some poor hooker, cut her head off, ejaculate down her throat and feed the remains to pidgeons, while im whistling the duke nukem soundtrack.
Software patents have gone to far. I mean we should not even discuss it, it is absurd. Of course microsoft can't collect money for code they never wrote. I don't believe that ideas should be patentable and if something is so obvious that you can infringe on it unknowingly, that should automatically void the patent.
Besides I think software developers should have the final word when drafting laws about software patents. No sane developer who actually writes code these days should see any benefit in the current american system (not unless they actually DID code the very first fucking listbox or something;). I am perfectly okay with normal copyright, some asshole shouldn't be able to rip my code, strip the copyright and profit. But some vague idea I came up with, please help yourself. Besides there is a reason why many devs like to hang out on IRC and in forums, we like to EXCHANGE ideas, not guard them.

The way to deal with bulling in schools is in my view is very simple. The punishment should be swift, harsh and feared. WORD size is dependent on architure.. On my 32 bit laptop a word is 32 bit. and 65535 isn't a word. It is just the largest unsigned integer you can represent with 16 bit.
Because you still have to have some sort of protocol. It is only the content the protocol is "carrying" you can encrypt, thus you can still detect the protocol. For example: when you shop on the internet and pay with your credit card, you're using an SSL encrypted HTTP connection. ISP's can still detect that you're talking HTTP, it just doesn't what you are talking about.
and that makes me wonder. Why are there so many fans here? thought most of slashdot would prefer something they could tinker with. I have no special love or hate relationship with Apple and the iPhone does look like a nice product, but personally im going for a symbian phone so I can tinker with and write C++ programs.
you can even get open source on symbian.
I don't see that much geek appeal in the iphone being so locked down. anyway its their first phone, perhaps the next version.
Wouldn't you need to have FastTCP routers throughout the route in order to reach the speed mentioned? and if so why bother using the old FTP protocol instead of just making a new and more modern protocol?
32 bit code is also larger then 16 or 8 bit code, you still don't find many 8/16 bit architectures in the wild these days. Anyway since we almost hit the clock frequency ceiling using "normal" processor architecture, we have to focus on parallelism and larger word sizes (64 bit and above). At least until a new processor paradigm arises.

A 64 bit CPU is able to move 64 bits at a time where as a 32 bit CPU only moves, you guessed it, 32 bits. Besides that most of the registers are 64 bits as well.
If you - for example - want to multiply two integers larger than 32 bit you can do that in one operation on a 64 bit CPU (since EAX is 64 bit), on a 32 bit CPU you will have to split the operation in two parts. (because the numbers won't fit in the registers).

Here in Denmark a TV license is compulsory if you have TV, a computer with a broadband connection (>64kbps) OR a mobile phone capable of playing videos (3GP).
And we got the lovely MS DRM WMP only crap as well and they have also "promised" to look into supporting other platforms, which won't happen because most of this country is windows only and thus won't complain.
I am furious about having to pay £200 a year for crap I can't even use. Even if I were a windows user I would be pissed anyway because our national television is utter bullshit (at least everything besides the news). It's just endless talk show with stupid national celebrities doing stupid things like singing quizzes, high school reunion quiz shows and that sort of retarded crap, at least the BBC has some good stuff (like Dr. Who).
The only way to evade this tax is either living in the technological stone age (not an option for me) or cheating. I'm doing the latter.

Because Flash plugins were mature and reliable, worked well with all leading browsers and OS platforms, and even came pre-installed with many browser distros.
Have you ever tried using flash on linux? we just recently got version 9 (8 was skipped). The linux plugin is so broken that you only view around 5-6 flashapps with sound in a row without flash freezing up mozilla (or konqueror for that matter).
Its probably busy polling for sounds access but still couldn't they have implemented a time out and error message?.
