Screw this, I'm moving to Mexico, or the moon or something. This is absurd. Nobody seems to care about privacy anymore, and I think these lyrics sum it up best:

When they took the Fifth Amendment, I was quiet because I was innocent.
When they took the Second Amendment, I was quiet because I didn't own a gun.
Now they've taken the First Amendment and I can't say anything.

I have a friend who has this in his signature:

"I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations." - James Madison

I bet they are tuning it so the 64 bit version can take full advantage of the new hardware. If they weren't doing that, or adding features, there would be no point just like you have stated. Also, think about this for a second - if somebody hadn't already added code to apache so that it would compile on any architecture you try, it wouldn't work. A fine example of this is the linux kernel - I got linux running on my Mac in 1997 for the first time. Ofcourse I couldn't just take the stock linux source code at that time and type "make". Somebody first had to port it, and then that code got added to the linux source tree. So, it's very possible that apache doesn't just "make" on the K8 yet.

I had my laptop outside (probably looked like a dork walking around running a constant ping on my thinkpad), and I was able to walk clear onto their property and get a great signal. At first I was impressed... then I started to think about my neighbor. Wouldn't this be a problem for them if they wanted their *own* access point for their network?? I would think that my access point also interferes with 2.4ghz phones in the area. As an example, I had to sell mine because they quit working the second I got this thing. So, if you could expand the range of 802.11b to *miles* - isn't that really going to screw over Joe Blow who wants his own wireless network that just happens to be within range of a provider mentioned in the story???

Apple just recently adopted DDR ram, but get this - the little PPC chip you have isn't even natively able to support it at DDR speed, the current batch of PPC chips can only work on one swing of the computing "cycle", not on the up and down like an Athlon can for example. Meaning, the motorola chips are not double pumped, so Apple is years behind AMD and Intel right now. Your argument doesn't hold water.

I also added a second hard drive to my DirecTv/Tivo box with dual tuners, and it's a sweet set up. Who wants a damn Xbox or PS2 as a DVR when I can have my directv and tivo in one unit that lets me set up "season passes" and record 2 shows at once, or record one while watching another? I think the xbox as a dvr will flop just as it has flopped as a gaming console sales wise.

You assume too much - you assume that everyone has a computer. You assume that you have cable and not directv - from what I know, you can't connect directly from a directv sattelite into your tv tuner card. You would need a box to get the signal, and output it. Meaning your AIW software wouldn't be worth jack - because it would only be able to record channel 3, or whatever is coming out of the directv tuner box. You also assume that people don't record 2 things at the same time, like tivo can do. I have no idea, but I would assume that the AIW software can't do that. Also, I have owned 2 AIW cards and TV tuner card, all from ATI. All have sucked badly when it came to software. None of them functioned properly on Windows 2000 because ATI can't write stable drivers to save their lives.

This probably means, we can expect Athlons at faster clock speeds now, not to mention the doubled cache they are supposed to get. So, the 2600+ may not be that exciting, but you can bet that the 2700+ and 2800+ will be. In fact, check out these rumors:
