2) Vista is the first of its code base, and its successor will be little more than a refinement of it.
If we stick with your circular logic, ME would have been head and shoulders above Win98 and SE. So which is it? Do Microsoft products get better or worse as they mature?
When oh when will we be able to create *useable* external backups on ZFS? I'm well aware that you can dump a ZFS snapshot to stdout and then do whatever you like with it (dump it on tape, dump it on another box using an SSH tunnel, or even dump it to/dev/null;-)) but thats exactly my point. This is absolutely not the usefull way to backup your data externally.
If you work on a *nix based system, but can't see the value of pipes why are you working on a *nix system? It's so easy a fanboi could do it.
Why wouldn't the testers use PCBSD then? That is the basic equivalent of Linux => Ubuntu where optimization for desktop use takes place. All that "comparison" did was compare two generic type bloated RC kernels generally intended for server use vs a stable bloated kernel optimized for desktop usage. All you're going to prove is that one kind of bloat is better than another....it's not even good for a baseline.
You do realize the opensecrets.org link you posted contains a list of donations groups by what industry the donators work in? There is a big difference in a lawyer making a personal donation to a campaign, and a lobbyist firm giving direct or indirect gifts to a politician. All you were able to prove is that a lot of retired people seemed pretty willing to give him money. Just so we're clear, there is a big difference between a member of SAG giving him money, and SAG giving him money.
Obama's association with lobbyists is still to close for my tastes, but it's at least encouraging to see that it's showing improvement. Maybe it's get worse and if so I'll be right there with you, but as for right now I'll take progress one step at a time.
I have never run into this situation, nor am I even an hourly employee anymore, however when I was this sort of thing would have really set me off. If an employer requires you to be there, then you're on the clock.
Assuming there are 2000 employees, each making $12/hr and losing 1.25 hrs/week of pay works out to savings of $125,000 for company(includes 50 weeks - 2 wk vac). I think unions are a detriment to a company's productivity, but this type of behavior is exactly why I'm strongly pro-union.
The constitution does not say your property cannot be taxed. In fact, it says the exact opposite.
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
Regardless of how much you personally loathe taxes, simply lying about the issue doesn't say much for your intelligence. Try something a little more clever like a good 16th amendment conspiracy or something similar.

OpenBSD 4.4 Released
·
· Score: 3, Insightful
It was flamebait on several counts, the first being FreeBSD is not anything like Linux. Kernel, filesystem, hier, SMP, licensing, and general philosophy are greatly different.
I personally think Theo de Raadt is a great project leader, even if he leaves a bit to be desired in tactfully dealing with situations. He's a bit abrasive in way House, MD is abrasive. I think Linus Torvalds is an ass but if I were to use that a basis of running down his work, then I too would be guilty a flamebait.
The rest of the OpenBSD criticisms are simply there to troll, nothing substantive at all. SMP has been there for quite awhile.
Please let people spend their mod points how they see fit even if they don't agree with your viewpoint.
Thank you and let's all try to make Slashdot a better and more interesting place.
A summary has to assume some understanding of the subject at hand. If a summary includes mention of a photon, for example, it doesn't necessarily require that it be defined what a photon is in the summary.
That's the point of the criticism. A large majority of the readers here would be familiar with a photon, but not with a Golomb ruler.
I had the same experience with Verizon in addition to other problems. I felt the same way and switched to Alltel nearly a couple years ago and my contract isn't up till Jan. Now I can't wait to switch to Sprint. I'll live in a fucking cardboard box under a bridge before I give another red cent to Verizon.
Maybe the timing has something to do with whistle blower protection. Seems likely that a whistle blower can have a bit more confidence coming forward after the current neo-brotherhood is removed from power. I'd also imagine an Obama administration would be more friendly to these whistle blowers but even McCain could use it show he's cleaning things up if so inclined.
I actually thought it was one of the better reporting jobs I've seen recently. They had two independent sources and discussed both sides of the issue including your reference to American lives saved. After watching the video and reading the article, I did not suffer from any confusion as to which program/agency was involved with this as you imply there is. Organizations are responsible for their employees. They are supposed to keep themselves in check since no one watches the watchers.
Perfectly valid if the question was how to travel between point A and B faster. When the question specifically states using method X, replacing it with Y is not valid.
You would have gotten that question wrong on an math exam if the instructor called for one method of solving an equation and you substituted another, regardless of whether your method is more efficient.
This is some of the communication I had with them....it didn't get any better.
We sincerely apologize for the situation that you encountered. We just saw the comments that you left on Resellerratings.com. We are dismayed over your perception of our company, and the feedback you posted. We are dedicated to satisfying our customers, in hope of making them âoelifetimeâ customers. If you would, please respond with details of you latest situation, and how, within reason and the boundaries of our contracts, we could make TigerDirect a place of business for you again.
Sincerely,

Most of the problems I have had with your company started with the purchase of this item:
As you can see as the top of this product info it states: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB Hard Drive - 7200RPM, 32MB, SATA-300, OEM
The 32MB is the spec for this drive's cache. However, when I received the drive, it was labeled 16MB. I sent it back, again and again continuing to receive the wrong product. Finally in frustration, I stopped returning the drives, and settled for you had shipped me even though it wasn't what I purchased and of lesser value. I even opted to keep the two additional drives I had been sent to replace the last set, meaning I was paying for four, not two drives, that weren't what I ordered simply to get this behind me. I received a bill in the mail for these additional two drives and I called in and asked them to bill my credit card on file and was told they would do that.
At that point I thought the fiasco was over, but then just a couple of weeks ago I received another call stating my account had gone into collections. Finally after much time spend on the phone and speaking to customer service representatives and managers, I finally got some person to actually bill me for the product instead of just saying they were going to bill my card then send me to collections when they didn't follow through. On top of all that, I was billed something like $7.50 for late fees. That just bothers the hell of me since it was tigerdirect's own problem and inability to correctly process transactions that caused the dilemma.
The $7.50 or whatever really isn't the issue, I wouldn't even notice that was gone from my bank account. The issue is that this event in conjunction with several other problematic transactions, have left me with a large amount of doubt as to the honesty and integrity of your company for several reasons:
* You shipped me a different product than advertised
* Your representative's stated that the specs on the product I received were correct, as opposed to the specs listed in link above.
* If the above is true, then tigerdirect engaged in false advertising. Bait & Switch
* Your frontline representatives were incapable of resolving this matter in regards to both billing and sending the correct product.
* It is very time consuming to find someone capable of resolving problems. It is so time consuming it is easier to ignore problems related to tigerdirect rather than pursue them.
Like most consumer's, when given a choice between equal products, I'll chose the less expensive option. Once I have experienced quality transactions with a company, I'll continue doing business with them even if their price isn't always the best. That company will no longer be your company. In my mind, TigerDirect is now to internet sales what Best Buy is to a brick and mortar store.
Nope that's not what is being said. They said the cell phone companies were screwing customers and that the termination fee didn't accurately reflect the cost of a broken contract.
The ruling was in favor of the class action plaintiffs because cell phone companies have operated in collusion in regard to early termination fees. Whether that collusion was orchestrated, or merely a in indirectly agreed upon measure to weasel more money from clients, the result is the same.
COFFEE WILL FIX THAT, JUST POUR SOME IN BELOW THE ENTER KEY.

Nothing about that scenario guarantees X > Y in accuracy or even that it's accurate at all. More like Colbert's truthyness where if enough people accept it, then it's true.
That's a problem in my book. Don't get me wrong, I love the wiki, but the grassy knol has a better vantage point.
He's insane like Monty Python is insane. Totally insane is when you have to wear depends and take Thorazine shots daily. You shouldn't call things bricked that are salvageable. Boredom will make you do strange things.

Because someone with points found it funny.
Perhaps we should all run our modding through you first to make sure we're getting it right?
Or perhaps people can just spend their points as they see fit.
You can thank BSD...
