of course! listening to all your arguments I'm not surprised that no one uses Ubuntu and Debian is the most popular linux distribution
oh wait...
if you prefer debian, good for you. If you don't like Ubuntu, good for you. Don't use it. Debian users should get over their dislike for Ubuntu and realise that it's a quality product, just like Debian is.
don't know if you noticed, but we produce carbon dioxide. I have an experiment for you to try:
breathe out
there you go... carbon dioxide.
Obviously some would have to be brought from Earth. And obviously, some would leak and need to be replaced. A self-sustainable eco-system is likely impossible, but it would reduce the oxygen requirements
so I suppose that means hollywood films will become even more expensive to produce... and then suddenly more explosions are needed to show what all the money has been spent on and suddenly there isn't enough money left over to include a half-decent storyline...
my girlfriend's parents are looking at buying new mobile phones. One of the ones they are looking at contains (this is true, I'm not making it up):
Ability to print pictures Adobe Photoshop a Movie Editor
Although "just make calls" mobile phones still do exist (they're quite cheap, like the 3320, you wouldn't get one with a plan) I find that if I want a feature like bluetooth on my phone, I can't get it without including Adobe Photoshop in the deal.
I think this is proof that the human race is doomed
at 7 billion bits per square inch a floppy disk should be able to store about 5 GB...
sure it won't be up there with a tape, but at that density it's still a hell of a lot better than the useless 1,44 MB we're getting at the moment
the only issue is the entire point of floppy drives is for using on old crappy machines that don't have bootable cd's or other such nonsense. so unfortunately, there's probably no call for 5GB floppy disks
well unfortunately, those of us who live in the real world, and need to use java for whatever reason (for instance, I teach a programming subject, and I need to be able to mark people's assignments), can't just accept "go take a hike"
so being able to use sun's java in ubuntu is a definite advantage
MEMORY: GC = 40 mg | WII = 512 mb of flash, possibly some other stuff
you seem to be mistaking RAM with Flash. RAM is where it loads your temporary information, whereas Flash is where it stores data like saves and virtual console games. Although flash could concievably be used for swap space, it is slower than RAM (although faster than a hard drive)
The amount of RAM on the system has not been officially released, but I think from the IGN article which "leaked" the specs gave 88MB RAM
if a low price point is given, this console should literally fly off the shelves. I know Nintendo always likes to sell at a profit but I think market penetration may be more important in this case.
Although, with scenes like this then I doubt there will be too much of a problem for them. (take note sony fanboys, even when playing the PS3 is free it's still not as good)
it appears the parent and the grandparent are the two prime examples of all nintendo related posters on slashdot
GP) The anti-nintendo flamer who simply ignores everything except the specs and thinks the system is useless, not noticing the fact that there are huge advances between the GC and the Wii
P) The nintendo fanboy who will back up the Wii no matter what, usually spouting speculation or complete fabrication
and of course, this post, which is whining about the other types of posters (a regular feature on slashdot. In Soviet Russia, posts whine about you! etc...)
does anyone else have an image in their head of Bill Gates with his hands over his ears and his eyes shut saying "lalalalalalalala I can't hear it it's not happening!"
"The Xbox's drive, for reference, is a 12x DVD so a 1x Blu-ray drive would take roughly three times as long to load data. Should Sony be able to launch with a 2x Blu-ray drive the comparison would be close enough to be moot. The problem, of course, is that 2x speed is expected to come at a cost premium, a premium that Sony might not be able to afford."
so from that, it appears that the DVD will be half again as quick os the blu-ray
I don't think it's fair to count Linux as harder because some people want to do something harder in Linux. Try resizing your Linux partition when installing Windows. Can't, can you?
this is exactly my point here. Linux IS just as easy to install, but the problem is people don't know it, because no one installs windows anymore, and when they do, it's always just installing over the top of an old windows. We're kind of arguing the same point here. I clearly didn't do it well enough;)
The only thing I've ever had not work right away in Linux was my wifi card, but it was simple enough to get it up and running.
you've probably never installed linux on a laptop. I never have issues with desktops but unfortunately laptops have all kinds of weird configurations that usually give me problems. I currently don't have sound coming out of my headphone port, but I'm a bit of a linux noob. I'm sure with enough effort and a lot more knowledge I could get it working, but when compared to windows where the hardware comes with driver install cds and you never get a "oh that doesn't work in Windows, nothing you can do. next time, don't buy from that company." (at least for your brand new piece of hardware on Windows XP)
This is the problem. Linux definitaly has more working "out of the box" than windows does. In all, the install process of linux is MUCH better than Windows. But the support just isn't there for the rest. The problems with Linux are not technical, they're social and legal issues. And they won't be fixed until more people are using linux (which won't happen until the problems are fixed... the Linux Catch-22, much worse than your ethernet one in my opinion;)
Joe User could buy a Linspire computer and that would be just as easy, and cheaper, too.
Only if you don't read every word in the senteneces you're responding to. And ignore that most people have never heard of QNX.
actually he only needed to do one of those things =)
Did anyone here actually click that Ubuntu link?
Why is there an Internet Explorer icon on the Ubuntu 6.06 desktop?
of course! listening to all your arguments I'm not surprised that no one uses Ubuntu and Debian is the most popular linux distribution

wtf! credit the INVENTORS not the imitators!
so you are saying we should call GNU/Linux ""?

look for the nokia 3320... I'm sure you can find it somewhere...

People said Microsoft couldn't make a decent browser in 1996
and they would be right
If Dell and Google want to do a service to consumers, Google would give Dell a pile of money to put Firefox on the desktop.
from what I can tell, they already do (in Europe, anyway)
I've heard that the aussie version of the Gamecube spins backwards. You know, like their toilets...
yup, they spin upside down here too.
but we don't have electricity so we have to power it from a kangaroo
First, follow the standards thoroughly, THEN innovate.
yes microsoft... it's embrace, extend, extinguish! honestly, they can't even follow their own guidelines any more
people still use frontpage?
I didn't even know that software existed anymore...
honestly... am I the only one who's sick of seeing this same damn ascii art over and over again?
it was funny the first time, I think we need to start modding it overrated now
(yes, I am aware this is slashdot, no I'm not new here, before you ask)
I don't know whether to laugh or cry... ;)

it's not hypocritical if you point it out yourself ;)

thank you for your comments,
A new, higher definition ren... video will be available shortly

Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?
