  10. Re:What have they done for the UI? on Blender 2.42 Has Been Released · · Score: 1

Well I started with Blender3D because it was free, and as a hobby I had no way of spending ~3.000 dollars for some software I might never use (30-day-free-trial... did it exist?).
I read a few tutorials, watched Beard's videoTutorials... seemed hard, but then when I clicked on the -gallery- at blender3d.org I just HAD to learn blender..
Well after a week I was making my own little wonders(nothing compared to teh masterz).
A week ago I finally managed to try out 3dsMAX8. Took me half an hour to install it (compared to blender's ~10second install). Then another 5minutes loading (slow laptop.. but blender goes relatively fast).. well the UI is a lot worse IMHO, the shortcut keys are ~weird (in blender it's easy to remember. B=boxSelect. S=size. x=remove (ctrl-x=cut in everything). E=extrude....
On maya7 it's pretty strange too. IIRC, q=size,w=move,e=somethingelse...

I think Blender is a real good place to start, especially if you are on a low budget. The online tutorials (Blender:Noob to Pro, Blender3D:Go Pro!, video tutorials, and especially with the ongoing Summer Of Documentation) are many, and the community is very friendly. There's not THAT many plugins as in 3ds, but it's really easy to do if you know Python (which is t00-EZ to learn).

  11. We here in advanced Italy... on Do Kids Still Program? · · Score: 1

Well, after reading all that, it makes me feel in somewhat of an "advanced country" since we choose what kind of high school we go to (instead of choosing classes) so there's a pretty nice difference between the 'not so smart people' and the other 'smarter kids'.
Thus we have the many "Dumb schools" and the "hard schools" (to which I,of course, go to).
And in those "hard schools" (I'm going to the hardest one in the area, and it's pretty easy), we learn programming! 1st grade (9th grade in USA) to 2nd is Pascal. Then the second "half" is Java for 3 years (High school is 5 years and not 4).
And about people not interested in programming... I have to agree, they are really few.
    But that's HighSchools...

Most of my friends do play computer games now, but I still consider it 'not so good' to spend much time playing games...

What are you people thinking?? Since when do companies try to do the best for the custumer? The only thing they are supposed to do is suck out all your money, as much as possible and as fast as possible, of course. And how do they get more money? Theathers get their money when people come, and every person pays the ticket. DVD's pay the ticket for 10 people, at the price of 1. And yet again, some people would buy both if the DVD came a month late like in old times. It's a war between two powers. Of course the 3rd wins... guess who

    As an artist..
Sometimes working with Blender cheers up life, mostly when it works, and I like to talk a lot on IRC, to get help or help others, or just talk, and most of these people (like 95%) are not Italy-residents. There are like 5 tutorials total that are actually somewhere in Italy, out of a pretty big number, thus -forget about learning-...
CGtalk.com and CGartists.com looks to be a USA based website.. how could I live without it?

    As a programmer..
I work with many people that are living in USA, Finland and Germany... Python for one is not hosted in Italy, nor is the Free Pascal Compiler, so it would mean no way to update the system (unless people imported it from the netherlands..), most guides are in USA and other European countries. Italy is really poor on the web..

    As a person..
I have lived in USA for 3 years, so I have a lot of friends there, also since I'm Russian I like to talk to people in Russia..

    As a student..
Physics! What the hell do Italians know about physics...? Programming? Just about nothing.... there are sooo few Italian websites it's a shame.
Wikipedia is my best friend, and seems to be a not Italian-Resident (Ok, maybe it.wikipedia.org is, but check how many Articles(then also check how much each article got) it got, and compare to en.wikipedia.org)
Slashdot.org is USA based website, and I get all my news from it. Means I would be dis-informed and all that...

    All in all...
If I was to be restricted to only browse Italian websites, I'd just move to USA for the websites, or/and join a group of hackers to try to break the GreatFireWall...
