I think the additional features are a good idea. I use the R4 for music and video so that makes sense. And I can see how a camera could be used in some games. So I wouldn't call that bloat. Bloat implies that the addition of that particular feature caused a slowdown or something.
And I don't mind the GBA slot being gone. Out with the old, in with the new. I don't use it all that much anyway. A few games sure, but it's not a deal killer for me.
The battery life IS a problem. I normally use the least bright setting and can go for quite some time without a charge. Dropping from 19 to 13 hours is kind of annoying.
I wouldn't call the new device crippled though. Hey, guess you just feel stronger about it. I'll probably pick one up.
if a teenager libels the principal outside the school, the principal's legitimate response would be a libel suit. NOT to take on the role of judge, jury, and executioner himself.
I don't agree. When you are part of a society, you are bound by implicit social contract. Even if something isn't illegal, if it is anti-social behaviour, it should be discouraged. If the parents aren't teaching the kid that, let the school teach it. And the kid just got suspended. It's not the end of the world. I think the punishment fit the crime. Making a big deal out of this, I feel, legitimizes all those "hot coffee" claims. Let's not pretend we're idiots and let's not blow things out of proportion.
Pakistan isn't. Iran isn't. Iran WAS when the US was supporting the Shah but the people revolted.
Really, you sound very scared, confused, and uninformed. But don't worry, everything will be ok. Come here, let me give you a hug.
I think everyone agrees that Georgia started this. Most are saying that the Russian retaliation goes too far. I personally don't think that they over-reacted any more than the US has lately.
But I'd love to know your sources for the fact that US and Israel supported Georgia. Wsws.org does not mention that.
Sorry, but are these two references not just opinion pieces ? Certainly not peer-reviewed scientific or statistical analysis !!
You're right on the NYT piece, the second one though is a secondary source more than opinion since they cite some sources: http://www.cwpe.org/resources/popcontrol/moreresources. CWPE seems to be dedicated to disproving that overpopulation causes poverty so I'm not saying they're not biased. I haven't read it myself, nor their secondary sources, so definitely don't just take my word for it. I've come across the idea that overpopulation does not cause poverty somewhere (and obviously, was convinced) and just did a web search for some quick links. I definitely don't have enough ammo to fight this fight, but neither am I going to accept that overpopulation causes poverty without some more info.
wait... HE'S the idiot?! HE'S just a nerd playing with his electronics. whoever thinks he looks suspicious would be the idiot. i don't think it's just me with my tech background that can tell the diff. like the over-reaction to the mooninites in boston and in other places, and the over-reaction whenever someone sees some white powder: people need to chill the fuck out. yes, i realize someone took down the twin towers and killed 3000 ppl. but the response to this has been an over-reaction
that's not applicable. streisand effect refers to unwanted publicity generated by an attempt at censorship (first line of the wikipedia article). nintendo at al are not censoring anyone, and they aren't trying to prevent some piece of information from becoming widely known. they are attempting to prevent piracy of their video games. analogies to the riaa and mpaa would make more sense.
i also dont see nintendo or other video game producers as evil as the riaa or mpaa. maybe that's just habit. anyway, i don't mind paying for a video. i play it for a few months, then sell it. i do have an r4 tho. i downloaded sim city for the ds before it was available in the us, and i ended up buying the us version when it came out. cuz i also own nintendo stock.
Personally, I find it a bit hard to believe that a civilization is smart enough to travel interstellar distances but too stupid to use basic camouflage.
hey, everyone screws up once in a while. maybe they forgot to hit the cloaking button
So then if we recycled the hangers, both the dry cleaner and the customer would win, right? Customer gets cheaper service, dry cleaner gets higher profit margin.
None of my dry cleaners ever suggested this and I thought I was being el cheapo by asking. Maybe I'll try it.
In general, yes: Spending money to get energy from inefficient sources only makes mankind poorer. But you are not considering the effects of technology and research.
Capitalists ARE attempting to harness all those sources. The Economist had an article on marine energy in April 2007 I believe and again just in the last couple of months.
And I think you are underestimating the power of the entrenched power companies (including oil, gas, and nuclear). They can dictate political policies that prevent other alternatives from being explored until such time that the alternatives are inevitable. The article in the Economist mentioned how nuclear companies pressured the government in the UK to stop funding efforts to exploit marine energy.
I'm sure you don't think that nuclear reactors just sprang into existence. It took time and money to make nuclear energy a reasonable alternative to coal. Here's a link that compares the cost of nuclear and coal: http://www.nucleartourist.com/basics/costs.htm Now, I don't have facts on this, but I'm guessing that nuclear used to cost much more, just because it was a new technology, the efficiency wasn't as good, etc.
I was going to criticize your use of the word dickitry (it's been a slow day). I've heard of dickery, but not dickitry.
Then I checked urbandictionary.com and was enlightened!
dickery: the state of being a dick
dickitry: The art of dicking around
zappepcs mentioned corporal punishment as a solution. Misbehaving children seems to be a western phenomenon, at least according to the movie East is East. so perhaps a non-technical solution IS in order.
errr...no, i don't have kids. but i'll bloody well be sure to beat them soundly on a regular basis. for the sake of the future.
awesome... they spelled "allahu akbar" correctly

Ah! Fair enough.
Actually, if you could get children to forgo sex in many of these third world countries, a large number of their biggest issues would be solved.
It is a popular misconception that population size causes poverty. Here are a couple of sources: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F0CE7DA133CF936A25757C0A965958260 http://www.cwpe.org/node/126

A subtle but very important distinction.
your ideas intrigue me. i'd like to subscribe to your e-zine.
