Anyone involved in actually running a business knows that you should focus on your core competencies and strategic intellectual properties. Using competent 3rd party vendors is always either cheaper or faster than developing in house, so I'm a little worried to hear that NASA wasn't doing this from the outset.

Engineers are smart people, but sometimes they haven't got a bit of sense. Business acumen doesn't come at the pointy end of a slide rule, it comes from understanding how to strategically use existing resources to maximize output. If that sounded like gobbledygook to you, congratulations, you don't have what it takes to climb the corporate ladder.

NASA needs to stop doing all the work themselves and start working with companies who can deliver cheaper and better solutions in shorter time frames. JPL, SLAC, Skunkworks, and all the rest are great to have as specialists, but gruntwork should definitely be handled externally.

It doesn't add up, and that is where the controversy lies. If there is proof that humans are causing global warming, it should be easy to show. However, if the Earth's temperature changes as a result of uncontrollable events happening at the sun, then we need to take that into consideration.

The controversy is very important, and having a calm, level-headed debate where both sides of the issue can discuss the topic without getting shouted down as "unscientific" (sunspot theorists) or "religious crackpots" (human-caused warming theorists) is just as important. Evidence is what will decide this one way or the other, but in order to have clear evidence, we must be able to express our theories in a respectful and open scientific environment. This is why we must teach the controversy.

The US government is using the same old tried and true methods of fomenting anti-immigrant sentiment. They steal jobs. They bring crime. They bring disease. It's the same old song and dance.

In a world of modern transportation, it is essentially impossible to screen every person who crosses into our country for diseases. The solution isn't more border patrols on the Tex-Mex border, it's better healthcare for those who can't afford it. If the at-risk groups are the border towns and poverty-stricken, it makes sense to help them rather than try to cut off the flow of immigrants.

I used to fly internationally all the time, but with the growing anti-immigrant policies of the US, I find myself having a worse and worse time traveling even though I am a US citizen. The TSA and Immigration Control have made flying a mode of travel that is completely unattractive.
