    it is under the gpl license and FREE

    uses GRASS and GDAL for the backend of the qt GUI

  4. if we ( linux users ) are using 32 bit OS's in 20 years WE DESERVE it
    the only 32 bit os i have is on a very old box from 2001 - that is on itt's last legs

    Forbs mo longer even works in Seamonkey EVEN with ad block plus disabled
    it needs to be uninstalled

    basically "Forbs" no longer is getting ANY of my traffic

    then you have not read the "linuxQuestions" forum
    the bleeped bleeps that do not even BOTHER to read and study the documentation and think a few mouse cklicks will install and CONFIGURE it

    i am in the group that ENCOURAGES that new to Apache people build the stack from source and manually install the parts about 12 times
    then use the package manager to save 30 min to 1 hour on install time

    THAT is why i DO NOT recommend ubuntu - canonical F'ed it up

    on my Debian 8 install su is normal users
      ( $PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH PKG_CONFIG_PATH C_INCLUDE_PATH CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH )
      set in the ~/.profile

    and "su -" it using ROOT'S ( $PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH PKG_CONFIG_PATH C_INCLUDE_PATH CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH )
    the same as on my RHEL and ScientificLinux and Fedora and OpenSUSE installs

    all one has to do is
    CONFIGURE YOUR SYSTEM!!!!!

    "su" is root BUT!!! with the normal users $PATH and settings
    "su - " and "su -l root "
    IS THE ROOT USER

    there is NOTHING ambiguous there at all

    now what Ubuntu did to "sudo"
    THAT!!! is a problem

    then a GUI is the WORST thing to use

    use the terminal
    there are many tools
    Imagemagick
    Gmic
    vips
    all are very good at batch conversions

    or for just renaming

    i have to disagree

    as a VERY LONG time gnome user
    gnome1 and 2
    gnome3 sucks and DROVE me to KDE

    now to be fair
    i was using a ton of QT based GUI programs on gnome2
    even using KDM to log into Gnome

    The current KDE4 on OpenSUSE is very usable
    -- a few too many configuration tools and options but that is better than too FEW

    if you want a custom install
    Linux From Scratch
    or
    Slackware
    or
    Arch

    there is no way in hell you can keep a Frankenstein'ed install up to date with updates

    I DO NOT!!!! use my isp's email

    the LAST time i was using a Comcast mail i was getting 500+ spams EVERY DAY!!!!
    and was informed to use Microsoft Outlook to filter them out on my LINUX ( rhel) install

    so basically i told Comcast to F-OFF and changed the comcast billing email to a new Gmail

    With Gmail i get about 2 spams a month
