The reference needs to be in plain view for it to count. Is it a huge deal? No. It suggests that the poster (not submitter) doesn't read the story to make sure it's something even worth posting, and that the submitter has no issue attaching his name to the content.
The quality of the summary is irrelevant. That's like saying that Puff Daddy/P. Diddy in his infinite lameness is allowed to sample because his songs suck.
Unlimited scalability As the world's first 128-bit file system, ZFS offers 16 billion billion times the capacity of 32- or 64-bit systems.
Microsoft immediately countered by saying WinFS will now support "twelveteen million billion times" as much storage as Sun's ZFS, and is "a bazillion times" more secure.
The password is in XOR'd form? Yeah. That's encryption.
Couldn't the software or driver have stored the password in a MD5 or SHA1 form, and still present a valid authentication mechanism for end users?

This is a pretty embarassing non-response.
The product is only about 5 or 6 months old, and the password was just sitting there. AES is a perfectly fine standard for encryption, but this is an embarassing implementation. Thankfully, I don't know anyone who owns this.
It's gotten to the point where I've forgotten Yahoo! had a search engine.
I wouldn't agree about Musicmatch though, their player isn't bad - and I've used it for encoding and playback of much of my collection. My only complaint is that launching is a touch too resource intensive - almost as bad as WMP.
1. Since all three are built from the same software base and the Slashdot summary even says that Netscape 7.2 is Mozilla 1.7... why would you expect something different?
I didn't.
2. Why are you blaming the browser for dumb web developers that don't know how to make websites that work for everyone?
I didn't.
3. Why are you bothering to visit IE only sites? Surely even if the information on them is useful it can be found elsewhere without the need for proprietary software.
Our web developers are, uhm, lacking web development skills. This information is NOT available elsewhere, but it useful.
Calm down. Chill out. Your post is full of blind zealotry that helps no one.
I quickly checked out the size of the Netscp.exe process in comparison to the IEXPLORE.exe process.
I displayed one site at a time. Since I didn't have a stopwatch, I couldn't measure loading times - but I certainly perceived a faster page load as well.
I jumped the gun when I saw the article display. It installed quickly, renders pages quickly, but - just like Mozilla or Firefox - runs into all the same problems for sites designed with IE in mind (missing menu bars, etc)
However, it's VERY lightweight (11.5MB installer for Windows), and the memory footprint is about 35% smaller than IE for the same page.
Thus; so. Used to indicate that a quoted passage, especially one containing an error or unconventional spelling, has been retained in its original form or written intentionally.

It's not really the best use of 'sic', but it's not inappropriate.
Also to any detectives looking at this all refunds are being sent by next week and i have already called to try to talk to yous. Also my wife has nothing to do with this and cashed one check for me and did not know what it was for other then it was a dvd player and that dvd player was shipped out and i have the tracking number for it so her name should not be in this. I mean really now we have a 3 week old baby to take care of do you think we need this crap right now? Too many lies are on that web page about me and i am taking it down and will sue.
I know people talk like this in the NY/NJ/PA area. Carl, from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, for example. I'm shocked that someone would type this and put this up as their website.
If it weren't for the URL, I would be sure this was a satirical site.

Ask any Slashdot user who bothers to RTFA and they'll tell you the summary was plagiarized.

Dude, *storing* a password that is XORd and using a one time pad are two VERY different things - even if XOR is a common function.
One Time Pads are as close to a perfect means as is out there. This, well, isn't.

Definitely on point, but you left out Google's orkut - perhaps the 'digital life' feature that keeps them even further ahead of the rest of the pack.
Would that be like, the merging of 'haircut' and 'circuit'?
I'll try.

I chose the browser-only installation.

As it turns out, there was an error in their findings - and that the MD5 value created is NOT the same in this incident.

I imagine that yes, due to the cheap labor of script kiddies that Windows does indeed have a lower cost of '0wnership' (sic).

The article needs to be corrected, unless President Clinton had an affair with the singer from Manfred Mann.
