  2. simply wow on AC = Domestic Terrorists? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Wow. That's all I can say about that piece. Just wow...

First off, wasn't the Harry Potter spoiler clip in the middle of there taken from the Daily Show? (I could swear that's John Oliver's voice).

Second, the tool with the MySpace account--it's clear to anyone that has any idea about anything that he simply ended up with a virus/keylogger installed. "Anonymous" got his passwords from that and the virus got spread to his friends. Woooooh, that kinda shits been happening on the internet for forever now. He simply appears even more foolish for not having even that much of a clue (hell, my grandparents are aware that there are viruses and nasties out there).

What I find most disturbing about this is that if anyone sends Fox 11 an email/letter/phone call/whatever explaining to them how far off base their piece is, they'll just treat it all as threats that further back up their claim. Truly truly sad....

Chances are the old machines that don't have the resources to even handle a basic Firefox install are loaded down with tons of other crap anyway. I'm talking about system tray items for every app on the computer. And let's not forget, this was before automatic updates, so we can be fairly certain the machine isn't up-to-date patchwise. This means that there are probably god knows how many adware/spyware/viruses/trojans running in the background, too. In order for this lightweight version of Firefox to be truly useful, the machine should be thoroughly cleaned before installation.

Try listening to some bands that actually know what dynamics are and incorporate them into their music. The recordings I have of those bands tend not to be compressed (note: dynamic compression, not data compression) because the band wouldn't let the label release it like that. The other interesting thing is that these bands tend not to be on major labels, so you're not supporting the RIAA by buying their music.

  11. Re:FUD. on Warning On Office 2007 "Try-Before-You-Buy" · · Score: 1

I work at a place that still uses Office 2000, since there aren't any features in newer versions that we need (small office, small budget--a few grand to upgrade Office licenses would be better spent elsewhere). I installed the Office 2007 compatibility pack a few weeks ago when someone sent us some .docx files. Before installing it, I went through everything on the Microsoft site for it to make sure I didn't miss any necessary upgrades/updates to Office 2000 or anything.

Everything looked okay, so I installed the compatibility pack. It didn't work. I still couldn't open the .docx files. When I forced Word 2000 to open them, I just got a bunch of binary gibberish with page breaks here and there.

I wondered if I did something wrong, so I installed a fresh copy of WinXP in a VMWare image, updated it until there were no more updates, installed Office 2000 Professional, updated that until there weren't any more updates, then went and got the Office 2007 compatibility pack. Same results. I'm honestly wondering if they even tested it on Office 2000 before saying that it would work.

Anyone else out there have any luck using the compatibility pack with Office 2000?

If by "internal" you are also referring to every retail channel out there (also known as "stores"), then yes, it's an "internal-use" thing. Face it, it's a term that has a specific meaning that is used in many aspects of production and sales. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not a useful term.

Yes but why keep a format when other formats become more viable solutions the faults of the original format? UMDs suck because of wasted battery resources on spinning the disc, time wasted on loading, and whatever other faults it has.

So are you saying that Sony should release an update of the PSP that doesn't use UMDs, and thus is completely incompatible with the prior library? (Note that this is an update, and not a successor). And how about the people that have the older PSP? I know I'd be pissed off if they changed the format on which the games are available in the middle of the product's life. Frankly, it'd piss me off enough to turn me off from buying their products again.

And how much did that 2GB MicroSD card cost when the PSP came out? Oh wait, they didn't make them at the time. You could get a 1GB MicroSD card for about a hundred bucks, though. Why didn't they just use those instead? Comparing what's available now to the materials available when the PSP was being developed/introduced indicates that you don't quite understand how this "flow of time" thing works.
