  1. Practical use on Rat Lung Successfully Regenerated and Transplanted · · Score: 0

That's gonna make some tobacco producers and smokers happy... No actually, there are endless possibilities to this. Supposedly the theory behind this can be adapted to growing other organs - transcribe the right genes, give it some food, cash and a structure and grow yourself an eye! I wonder if this can be adapted to growing Bota bags - these would sell particularly well in Spain during San Fermín.

  2. Re:Doubtful on Rat Lung Successfully Regenerated and Transplanted · · Score: 0

Having more entrepreneurs looking into these "advances" in technology or scientific research and turning it practical use would certainly up the process of advances becoming mass-market. Information on research, clinical trials is public domain anyway, so it's just a matter of finding use for it, making an initial investement, take some risk, ?????? and make some cash. Also saves the government occasionally some effort in picking the reseatch it thinks is good for us ;-)

I wonder what made the iPhone 4G so appeasingly justifiable to the average consumer compared to their year-old iPhone 3G, which is fast, upgradable to iOS4 and which, more importantly, does what you would expect of a mobile phone and more... More often than not consumers need to learn to weigh out their "real needs" against all the media pressure we subject ourselves throughout our "normal lives" (in the modern world that is). Don't fix it if it ain't broke, as an old saying goes... Gadget obesity, anyone?

  9. Signal Quantization on SETI Institute Is Looking For a Few Good Algorithms · · Score: 0

I'm not going to try to use the right terminology, simply because I'm not an astrophysicist, but I wonder if attempts have been made to analyze the signal across different timeframes, as opposed to one continuous stream of radio-waves. Plato has done it in his works, so why couldn't the aliens?

or care? After all they've stuck with outdated, almost obsolete technology, for so long - they must have a good (even if subjective) reason for it. Not a big deal there's still plenty of holes to find in SP3, 2008 and 7, so what? It's only through education people will learn to make proper choices in the first place...

We already tried enabling the general population to create own websites: myspace, geocities, shall I go on? Now, unless this tool is able to preserve other user's eyesight once the app is published... Hopefully Google has studied and learnt something from market history.

What Google and Apple should definitely try - is community/Karma based app publishing process ;-)

  12. Power to the (smart) masses? on The Android Gets Its HyperCard · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Shouldn't the general population be in control of what the government is doing also? Although I think there should be a minimal level of intelligence involved (such as before, during and after general elections). Unless a magick tool/pill can take care of all that (and all the major side-effects have been identified and assessed).

Well, at least it's good to hear the concept of "separation of power", as developed by ancient Greeks as a model of democratic governance, is still in full swing downunder! No matter what everyone thinks about filtering and the so called freedom of speech (I personally think we have such an increasing amount of shit in our brains, filtering out child porn isn't going to revolutionize anything, though my take is that it's a good thing). Anyone whining about potential issues with your rights - take a few deep breaths - Australia isn't turning into North Korea overnight - there are more important issues to whine about. Millions of people are being incarcerated, hundreds of thousands are jobless, and more kids than you know are left without parents, which leads me to the conclusion - it's always better to deal with the root of the (perceived) problem.
