  1. Re:First to repeat it in this story on $25 PC Prototype Gets Award At ARM TechCon · · Score: 1

The $35 version only has wired ethernet, and I suppose I should have been specific that I would like at least 512MB of RAM, preferably 2GB, especially when coping with a 700MHz ARM 11 as a processor. I guess I just want a "decent" web browsing capability instead of one that will always feel lame when compared to a normal desktop.

So WiFi, 2GB RAM, how about built-in monitor and keyboard? And of course a trackpad and some spare USB ports on the side. It should have a built in OS, and a long-life battery as part of it too.

If only someone made such a device.

Why? What does 7 do that XP don't?

I'm still using Windows 2000, but only now I'm finding that programs don't work. I was going to upgrade to XP, but I heard people talk about Windows 7 etc.

    Here is the website:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/compare?T1=tab20
    Here are some "features":
    * Touch and tap instead of point and click. (I don't want this)
    * Stream music, photos, and videos around your house. (I'd rather use existing programs.)
    * Open programs and files you use most in a click or two.

I think I'll still try and find a copy of XP. I love the speed of Windows 2000. Everything's instant on a modern system. I'm not wasting any cycles on fades, alpha blends and graphical task bars. I'm not wasting time indexing when I only search a few folders anyway. As long as I can run Firefox 4, then I'm okay - I imagine at least for another 5 years.

I would love to know this. My physics isn't great, but I did a quick Google.

It looks like the consensus is that it is not possible, those materials do not exist.

The other thing is that is would not make much difference than using helium:
Density of air is 1.2 kg/m3.
The density of helium is 0.166 kg/m3.

If we had a balloon filled with air, and replaced it with helium, the density reduces to 14%. This means that that much helium could support 86% of the weight of the air. A vacuum's density is 0, so it was possible it would support the weight of 100% of the air it 'displaced'. So a perfect vacuum is only 16% better at lifting (in air) than helium is.
