I plan on working past retirement, but not doing what the pointy haired boss wants, but what I want. Just because I retire does not mean I have to sit at home, or be on a permanent vacation.
They stopped random UDP port use, and now use a static pool of UDP ports for queries. Note that they have come out with a P2 release that addresses a completely different issue that the first patch caused. I was able to essentially cause a DOS on a BIND server that was patched with P1 by sending more than 10,000 queries to the system. It ran out of usable UDP ports and puked. The same issue exists in the Windows patch, and especially on Windows 2003 SBS. There was way more than one line of code, or a single character changed.
Firefox is not alone in it's new Robot "Warning will robinson" type of messages...Internet Explorer does this as well. Pick on them both over it will ya?
I think the latest version of gOS looks a lot like an updated version of Microsoft BOB, or whatever Packard Bell called their stinker version of it. Way too cluttered with crap on the desktop and none of it is really all that interesting.
I haven't seen a SiS chipset in years! Do they still even make anything that is used? Honestly, I haven't used anything but NVidia in the last few years and they quite frankly work REALLY well!
I owned an ISP in NorthEast Arizona, right up against the Navajo nation...we attempted to do business with them, but the tribal elders were very corrupt. They wanted a kickback on EVERY tower/user we added on their land. This is why no large ISPs, such as Time Warner, etc. will not even mess with them. They are a very good people, very nice, and very humble and at the same time very resourceful. They will figure something out, as long as they are forced to.
I have 2 words for you...Virtual Infrastructure. VMWare or other simular software can save your bottom and offers easy rebuilds. Someone else may have said this already, but I don't have time to read ALL the comments!:o)
Yes, I had a couple of guys working with me a few years back from a company named e-Security. They used Herc to develop a SIM/SEM tool agent for our mainframe on it. Very impressive stuff!
Is that this study is 2 years old. If you are going to present a security review it has to be relevant, and can only be relevant if it is fairly recent. I have first hand knowledge of how many iterations a website can go through (let alone a bank's website) in that amount of time.
on Go Grid...they bill you repeatedly for grid you have not used, then refuse to refund your money. They have a "pay as you go" plan, you pay, you pay, you pay, but nothing goes!!
I don't believe it does, but then I suppose you could do redundancy all the way down to having 2 seperate computers as well, but when the power goes out, you are still down. It makes sense for me, maybe not for everyone. I suppose I should have added YMMV.
Yes, very fun, with a healthy side of learning. I just didn't think the guy sounded like he was that far into technology. However, by all means, if the person is, roll your own, learn and grow.

Well...if the republicans are involved, they will end up with a lot less profit, but will not know where the money went!

Blame AtosOrigin!!! www.atosorigin.com
I would have thought that IT related work would include some IT! PM and software planning do not IT experience make.

I did not know you could measure SNR on a battery...or did I misunderstand?

So, if you could get Z/OS to install on a PC, do you think IBM would sue you over it? Yeah, me to, but hey, you never know!

Yeah...my bad, that should have been a HotBrick. And yes, it does both.
