I was going to pass on his current documentary based on his past films. I found them very misleading and him as very manipulative. He misrepresented facts and omitted facts which clearly contradict his very biased statements in his other films. Well I managed to see this one and am impressed. He was actually fair and unbiased. He let the facts speak for themselves. Teh actions of the insurance companies and hospitals pretty much spoke much better to the horrendous problems of our system than Moore ever could. His going to the US base in Cuba was kida stupid as well. Civilians can't get medical treatment at a military base or hospital usually so what did he expect? Did he expect them to open the doors to him? The only issue I had was with his statement that Cuba had world class medical care. That's a load and I knwo from first hand exp. I have family in Cuba and visit regularly. While it's not horrible it does not rate as first class. Maybe when compared to other latin american systems. There is a reason Fidel sought help from outside Cuba. Over all I feel this is his best and most truthful doc he's done to date. It was pretty angry after seeing how profit/money driven our system is. I may not agree with much of what Canada and France do but they have the right idea when it comes to medical care.

Just because something is legal here in the US and other nations doesn't mean it's legal EVERYWHERE. Yeah Chinese laws tend to crush freedoms but guess what? That's their right to do since it is their country. It's kinda like your neighbor feeling they are within their rights to enforce their own moral code on you in your own home. People need to remember China is a sovereign nation and can pass whatever laws they please no matter how wrong we may feel they are. Sure if you wanna keep your rig current for games or anything dealing with Multimedia/CG then you will be pretty much replacing the whole damn thing depending on how old it is. If I had a Mac and my motherboard died I would be forced to take it to some Apple shop to pay tehn to replace it. Not sure how the Apple warranty works but possibly alse be charged for the replacement board. With a PC I can simply go to my local PC parts store, selectc froma huge range of replacment boards, and then install it myself. Anyway, most Mac folks I know view ANY kind of an upgrade are major surgery. It's silly I know. Popping in RAM or anything else can be a pain/challenge if you are looking at one of those compact cases be it a Mac or Windows/Linux box. I still remember those Packard Bell computers we all loved to hate. When I would come over to a friend's place to help with an upgrade I would flat out refuse to try if they had one of these. The few times I broke down and actually tried I had to fight the urge to give the damned thing the Office Space treatment. At the time that sucked but I can look back now and laugh. :)

A broadband router wich provides a neighborhood with cable broadband access is a good example. Your average user doesn't take advantage of even 1 Mbps access. The cable companies have been banking on this for a ling time. Now what would happen when more peoepl in that neighborhood started to use more of thier pipe? What if they all started doing this around the same time? Their connections would slow to a crawl as they are over taxing the router. I know this because when I worked for Time Warner Cable in southern california this is exactly what we were seeing. So even if everyone was doing as you do have to and pay for any downloads beyond your monthly allowance you'd have the same issue.

The ones who would not hear my words listened VERY intently when I spoke with my hands. Teaching kids to run away from and/or avoid confrontations is a disservice. School is a microcosim of the real world. It's here where we learn how to deal with various social and moral situations. These lessons just as important as the academic lessons. Some could say they are much more important than the academics. If we do not let kids learn to deal with their own conficts here we will have young adults being released into society who are lacking much needed social tools. My parents understood this very well. When I would come to my father with my bully issues he simply told me to face them. He taught me how to read them and know which ones I had to get physical with and which ones I could reason with. He never punnished me for sticking up for myself or for someone else. He DID let me have it if I was the one who stired the pot. Children do not need to be sheltered from the ugly side of life. They need to learn what to do when faced with it. My friends and I say we are witnessing the pussification of our youth.

    4) They want to be able to play modern video games

    5) They want to run a mainstream OS

The only people who would benefit from moving to an alternative OS are those who do only the very basic of things like email, web browsing, and word processing. Linux would be idea for them due to the price (free). BUT since Lunix usually requires a tech savvy person to install and set up properly it's not something for Joe Average to tackle. For Joe Average who needs something that works out of the box with very minimal, if any, tweaking needed, the only real alternative option is an Apple box. Now I know Dell offeres Linux on boxes but I'm not sure what kid of support they offer so if they do properly support the Linux boxes they sell then Linux and OSX may be the same in the out of the box functionality.

I hear the myth of "A lot of people use Windows not by choice but by the virtue of it's what came with their computer and they don't care to investigate alternatives [even if it's to their benefit]" being thrown about as if it were a fact. If you dislike MS or Windows then just come out and say it. Please don't try to support your dislike with BS. It tends to be misleading.
