Mine is greyed out on "downlod updates but do not install them"
Its because I'm on a domain at my university campus, and I adopt their security policy because I have a school issued computer.
I disabled updates by going to Services, Automatic Updates, Press Stop and then disable the service.
If someone tried stealing my home out from under me I would be sitting on the porch with a shotgun holding my copy of the deed in my hand. I would not care if the buyers think they have rights to my house or not, if someone forged my name I would not be liable because I said so.
Usually it HAS to be upgradeable because the firmware that is shipped has bugs in it that need to be dealt with. I had to update my DI-524 because it was dropping my connection all the time and the channel changing feature was bugged. If it was non-updatable I would be stuck with a crippled router and a very un-pleased attitude.
And if the companies are not using the full potential of their hardware, users should be able to go in and install software that can. For example it was found that a DI-524 rev-C could be updated to become a DI-624, which is faster and has support for an aditional protocols.
Well the ROM is separate and doesn't have to be apart of GPL. All it has to be is some code to let it download a bin file into flash memory. I would imagine manufacturers can make that themselves without resorting to GPL'ed sources.
Unless the GPL means that ALL code on the device has to be open, whether it is under the license or not... I have not read it actually.
Then they should be like the D-Link routers and have an emergency ROM that lets you reinstall the firmware even if the router is bricked. Smart idea they have.
We are going to pay the taxes for the library whether we use it or not. The library is going to pay for Internet access even if no one uses the computers: I would rather have people using those resources for whatever purpose. If someone wants to use the computer to check their email, thats up to them. Just because you want to be an ass and say "life is hard, boo hoo hoo". Whats it to you? Others may not have as great as fortune as you have had, why make things more difficult than they have to be?
I don't think redundancy is what they are aiming for. I think what they are trying to do is more like clustering. If one of the clustered components fails, then the rest of them even out the extra load.
Would you be the slightest bit annoyed if ALL windows programs required WGA validation?
I have a legit copy of windows, so don't gimme none of that "You're pirate BS"
As soon as they start policing what passes through their networks, it will be a requirement for them to check what passes through their networks. It will be a precedent which causes them more work in the future and opens them to lawsuits if they do not catch something (whereas now, they claim they do not monitor such usage and therefore are not responsible for it). And as it has been stated elsewhere, if the BPI tells the ISP's of the violations, it does not go through any sort of court process, and does not carry the weight of law.
In my opinion, being told how to do my job from some third party is downright rude. If I were an ISP, i would figure my contracts with customers were my my business, and the BPI would piss me off trying to tell me what to do.
2GB a month? What shit is that? I use more than that a month just surfing the web. Hell, even free fileservers let you have more bandwidth a month that that:P
Sadly a good portion of Internet bandwidth is used for illegal file sharing. You don't think all that bandwidth is going towards Linux distro's and music videos do you? If they cut off their file sharers... guess what, no one needs high speed Internet anymore. Slow DSL, slow cable, hell even dial-up is good enough to read email and surf the web. If the ISPs cut off their customer base, then they WILL lose money.
Hahaha, you signed up for that too? Yeah, I got an email from Microsoft saying that they ran out of those Vista-Info thumbdrives, and that it was a first come first serve basis. We are SOL basically.
If I bought that movie, i sure as hell have that right. Thats why I bought it in the first place, regardless what they say I can do with it. As long as they get their money, they should not have any say of how I cut it up and resell it to another person. If someone does work, they just receive just compensation. If I edit a movie, i should be able to charge for that service. If the copyright holder things I am undercutting them, they can go ahead and edit it themselves selling it. Thats how markets work.
If someone bought the movie, they should be able to say what they do with it. Not some arbitrary company holding the copyright to that movie. IF someone bought the movie and wants to edit it, it is their RIGHT to do so. As it has been stated, these "cleaning" company's pay full price for the movies and then edit/sell them. Whats the problem? The copyright holder got their money, nothing is being pirated/stolen. The editing company is doing a service so they have the right to collect money for their deed.

If you read the Wiki there was one person that actually beat the scenario by sacrificing himself in a duel using the Romulan version of the test.
Lost in Space?

I happen to like backslash, gives me a change to read some of the comments I missed the first time I read through it.

If you want to call his last three movies "evil" then yes, he joined the darkside.
Maybe so, but his e-penis gets longer if he does it his way.
True enough... Someday we will be upgraded and our uptimes will surpass even linux!

But if there is a hardware failure you just have to wait awhile and the "bad neurons" will be bypassed. No more corrupt memory problems!
Many warez sites have porn advertisements, so good point.

Nice Sig, get laid much?
Bet she would not like to hear that :P

That would be sweet. Reformat the thing and put portable firefox on it!
